I saw this! Surely no imaginary squares. It was when I connected my second display (65" Samsung QLED TV) by wire. Somehow the experience was alarming and not good, not a true plug and play.

However, when I switched to wireless AirPlay Display, it works easily and instantly. So I never bothered going back to wired.

But yes, I have seen those pink squares and I hope it is a temporary issue that Apple will fix!

M1 Mac Mini with Big Sur 11.3:

1. No pink squares (at least after several hours of testing). Earlier they appeared after every restart/reboot.

2. Snow picture still appear randomly when I wake up M1 Mac mini.

Also I randomly get problems with black picture when I cannot wake up Mac mini. I tried to unplug USB mouse/keyboard and it helped to wake up the Mac.

Too many problems! Wait for next Mac mini with M2 chip.

Same here. Pink squares gone. Sleep/wakeup seems to work, but I'm still testing. I don’t trust early results.

This just happened to me for the first time on my Mini I bought in February. It lasted for about 10 seconds then the Mini automatically restarted.

Edit: Version 11.3.1 (20E241)

I have this problem on my brand new M1 MBA. Keeps scaring the **** out of me. 😳

No HDMI plugged in. Disappointed that Apple still hasn’t fixed this. 😒

I have Mac Mini M1 connected with HDMI cable.

1. Problem with pink squares were solved since macOS 11.3

2. Problem with white noise (snow) still occured in macOS 11.6 and Monterey 12.0.1 after sleep.

I found the following solution: I purchased USB-C > DisplayPort converter and connected Mac to my monitor with this adapter and everything is OK now. No white noise anymore. Probably this solution will work with USB-C > HDMI converter. This converter is very cheap - about $6..$9

I haven't seen pink squares for a while now with my M1 Mini, Apple USB-C->DVI adaptor to Cinema Display. The Apple logo will be off center but that's about it. I'm now on Monterey and no issues.

It just happened to my MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020) Apple M1 Chip. I was in the middle of recording a movie. Lost the entire recording. This is the first time this has happened.
