Wow. You must be the most patient person in the world to deal with a 4s interface speed at this point. Why did you keep it so long??? If its a size thing, the cheap 4" one is FAR better and not that expensive.

I don't like spending the money and it still "works" :)

You should get an SE. It's the only iphone to have ever improved on the almost-perfect 4s..

(And it'll only cost you about a third of what this new iphone is going to cost!!!)
Definitely a possibility - I figure once all the details are announced and the prices all shuffle around I'll take a look at what makes the most sense. I tend to put off new purchases until absolutely necessary, but I'd rather make a smooth transition than replace a dead device and I suspect I might be tempting fate at this point...

For people here in the UK the event will start at 6PM.
I really wish MacRumors would include times in UTC (as well as local time) when they post event details. It makes it much easier to do the maths, no matter where in the world you are.

It’ll be 17:00 UTC, btw.

Quick, everyone tell me what the invite picture means!
Looks like a heat map used in facial recognition. Might be showing edges of iPhones but I think it would it would be cooler if there were some actual facial features mixed in there.

I so wish I had my 4S still. It was such a great design, but alas with 4 kids, each upgrade I made meant passing down my existing iPhone and only one device survived the wrath of teenage use, as my youngest son is still rocking my old 6+. Every other iPhone barely survived a year's use / abuse.
It was my first smart phone and I agree, solid device, and still works fairly well. Poor battery life, limited storage, and just not enough power to keep up with current apps etc. though are pushing it to the edge.

Here we go. Let's see how many people suddenly start praising OLED if it turns out to be true. But what about the ''inaccurate colors'' and ''burn in"?

Apple doesn't generally jump into any new tech until it's at a point where the UX and quality is something they can stand behind - especially with the iPhone and its huge volumes.

Years ago, when Samsung first started offering OLED screens, the resolution wasn't great and the colors were horrid. But they've improved significantly since then to the point where Apple clearly had enough reason to change (to get higher resolution, color gamut and lower energy use). But I wouldn't expect Apple to shift everything over to OLED, as the micro-led they've invested in already, appears to be the future and may even replace the Apple Watch OLED screen on the upcoming release.

We also don't know anything about the camera sensors, or have anything firm with regards to screen resolution. I'm kinda hoping for another 1080p, that way the battery life is through the roof.
I think they can up the resolution and the battery life will stay be best in industry. Just the switch to OLED will help the same way it's been helpful to Samsung phones for the past few years - and they've have poor battery life. Now if there is something unique about these displays, expect Apple to save even more battery power by integrating the tech into the OS, another thing that Samsung nor any Android phone can do.

Once you upgrade, definitely keep the 4S somewhere secure, as it will likely increase in value. My sister-in-law was rocking a first-gen iPhone until 18 months ago or so and had offers of $500+ for it, just as she was in an Apple store and people noticed her with it.

I know Apple doesn't usually do nostalgic things such as this, but when they announce the iPhone 8 come September 12th, it would be cool if they showed a flashback to when Steve announced the first iPhone.
The whole: "An iPod... a phone... these are not three separate devices, this is one device, and we are calling it... iPhone. Today, Apple reinvents the phone." Maybe with a black and white filter, with the crazy ones ad playing in the background in its entirety (the version with Steve's voice over). Then have a montage showing how iPhone has changed over the years, and how it’s affected peoples lives. Cue a slow zoom out showing all of this playing as a video on a phone screen... an OLED phone screen that is. Zoom out further, with the camera slowly panning around this glistening black glass enclosure along with the Apple logo. So basically, make it look like it was playing as a montage on the new phones display, while showing the phone off bit by bit, then ending with a hand gripped around it just like with the original iPhone. And closing it with the crazy ones ad still playing in the background:

"... because the people who are crazy enough to change the world, are the ones who do." *crowd goes nuts*

Maybe that's too cheesy for some, but it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it, and has that warm, classic Apple vibe to it.
That would be cool but it's definitely fan fiction that will never happen.

Is it likely that we’ll see a big iTunes/Apple Music/media update along side everything else? The three main colours in the invite match those of the iTunes logo. We’re expecting 4K and HDR movies, and Apple has said that with iTunes 12.7 iTunes U and podcasts will be merged. Could they have more planned?
