That is a very interesting theory and all, but have you bothered to think it through? Barack Obama is the most powerful man on the planet at the moment and he wears dad jeans. Running the world and devotion to fashion don't have much in common.

If I could pick three people to invite over to dinner between Jesus Christ, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian, Mahatma Ghandi, Vanilla Ice and Mother Teresa, I would go for the three who spent the least amount of money on their wardrobe.

Are you talking about the same Barack Obama that wears a tan suit?

The correct answer is to spend more time with fashionable people.

Being unfashionable is nothing to be proud of. Socially outcast nerds do not know this. They revel in their own unattractiveness, while the rest of society disparages them.

Do not be proud of being ordinary.

I don't see Apple releasing a single design and hope that millions of people will want to be seen wearing the same watch..

Apple will likely think it is the best thing since sliced bread so yea, they might just hope / think it .

Part of me keeps thinking that the iWatch will just be your normal looking watch, non digital, no electronic screen for reading anything on, just lots of sensors to feed back things to the iPhone behind a normal watch face. That way it won't have a geeky/nerdy look.

Now that I can guarantee will never happen. And you know it :)

I think the whole iWatch paradigm is completely wrong.

I suspect it will be a fashion accessory you wear, that may also happen to tell the time. But if Apple want to pull off something special. it won't look anything like a watch as we know.

The strap mock ups may be closer to the mark than the mock up on this post.

This is what I believe too. The battery life just isn't quite there for a full in smart watch yet, especially when thinking about the thickness of some which people will be happy to wear on their wrist. I see it more of a band that is packed with sensors which are relayed back to your iPhone. Think of it like Carplay but for humans.

Think of it like fashionable Nike fuelband with maybe an LED digital clock but many more sensors.

The fashion industry is big on accessories & Apple have promised ‘..a whole lot more. If we can configure Macs, cars, sunglasses sports shoes, including Nike on the net, why can’t we configure a personal item like a watch. Could be millions of combinations.

Using this mockup as an example:

http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/iWatch-concept-GridGameCase-001.png

just playing with figures here

The watch case could be in 20 colours
strap in 5 materials, 20 colours, 20 different styles
20 colours for the sensor square
3 different displays
2 sizes in each

20x5x20x20x20x3x2 = 4,800,000 combinations available via a web based configurator

Both the iPhone6 & the iwatch could be available in the same colour options

figures & specific parts are just an example of course, but something similar could match the hype and could explain the ‘whole lot more’ on the flyer

Tim Cook is on the board of directors at Nike & Nike have an excellent ‘Customise’ section on there web site.Tim would have had first hand experience of a production line producing customizable items. If Nike can do it for a sneaker, Apple could replicate this model for a wearable.

Let's hope it's not based on this concept at all as it just plain horrific. I'd rather it based on what you and the other poster have outlined. Makes more sense.

Just like Fashion ruined Beats Headphones? Oh wait, Fashion is WHY people buy Beats headphones and not for the quality of its sound.

Isn't fashion why people buy watches or at least certain brands / models. Seems to be they way they're marketed.

Assuming you mean Perez Hilton, no. Hilton is known for celebrity gossip.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not keeping up with the internets.

----------

Perez Hilton? The unfashionable douche that posted part of the nude photos last week.

He's likely to be gizmodo'd from apple events

Probably worse than just being gizmodo'd.
I hear Gizmodo got an invite to the 9/9 event.

Apple's done patents from at least 2009 on sports (Search patentlyapple.com for "Sports" - there are dozens on sensors, tech, wearables, work with Nike people, all sorts). Flexible LED patents, sensor patents all sorts. Wonder what comes out. Imagine if their announcement was as strong as WWDC? Healthkit, Homekit and more. "It all looks ready to go"

Some Healthkit options
Diagnostics: Number of Times Fallen, Galvanic Skin Response, Body Heat Flux
● Fitness: Body Mass Index, Body Fat Percentage, Height, Body Mass, Lean Body Mass, Distance, Calories, Activity Count, Flights Climbed, Steps, Basal Calories, NikeFuel
● Lab Results: Blood Glucose, Blood Alcohol Content, Perfusion Index
● Medication: Inhaler Usage
● Nutrition: Total Fat, Polyunsaturated Fat, Monounsaturated Fat, Saturated Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Carbohydrates, Fiber, Sugar, Calories, Protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Calcium, Iron, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folate, Biotin, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus, Iodine, Magnesium, Zinc, Selenium, Copper, Manganese, Chromium, Molybdenum, Chloride, Potassium
● Sleep: Sleep Analysis
● Vital Signs: Heart Rate, Oxygen Saturation, Blood Pressure, Respiratory Rate, Body Temperature, RR Interval

All this and they're transitioning from Objective C to Swift?

Almost none of that information is able to be tracked by sensors. Not saying that some won't be possible in the future, but it certainly shouldn't be expected for the watch on Tuesday.

Anyone think it might not be an actual watch at all? Maybe it is just a watch band with sensors and an integrated screen? Maybe something that can be added to any watch.. Or maybe a combination of each? Have a watch and need a band that monitors health or buy the entire watch.

Fashion industry icons will help push prices skyward, just where Apple jewelry needs to be positioned. Anything less that $1,000 and up will not be perceived as desirable. Especially in high end areas like Silicon Valley, SF, NY, Paris and the like.

With a good number of the new iPhone 6 models selling between the rumored $1100 to $1500 range, Apple wearables in the jewelry category will have to follow that pricing strategy. As Jobs would say... This changes everything.

Besides it's about time Apple charges higher prices. It's the best product.

Isn't fashion why people buy watches or at least certain brands / models. Seems to be they way they're marketed.

Absolutely they are. While there are some watches that people just buy to tell the time, there is a HUGE market for fashionable watches. Rolex, Hublot, Blancpain, IWC, Cartier and many others. Many Watches are designed like jewelry.

Here is a perfect example...

Can't capare a swiss made automatic watch to an electronic wrist wearable that will be obsolete in 2 or 3 years...rich people aren't stupid, they buy watches like that to pass down to their kids and grandchildren.. Plus apple is a mass market company they aren't interested in selling to just a select few because there isn't money in that area for them, they want to sell tens of millions of these things

Expensive does not equal classy.

Take a Swiss made watch, design it by fantastic designers (Marc & Ive), get on board some intelligent style experts (Burberry CEO etc), and fill it with tech made by the most innovative company in history. Now that would be a f*!king smart watch.

I can't see this device as being a watch at all. Can you imagine walking down the street and one in three people are wearing the same watch as you? It would be nuts!
