I think Apple has to walk a very fine line here. They don't want their products to come off as only high end fashion accessories. If apple gets the rep as being electronics for the fashion crowd, then I'm out, and I don't think Apple would have nearly the mainstream appeal it does now. So be careful!

Your decision to buy Apple gear is determined by what other people think of it?

Other than that I don't have the smallest clue at why they're getting invited.

I won't be able to afford an iWatch with a Versace band on it.

I don't see how there are going to be designer bands if the sensors are built into the band. Way too much room for inconsistency and inaccuracy, IMO.

One thing's for sure, if the iPhone 6 has those large antenna breaks, the fashion guru's weren't invited there for that.

What if there is a 'health/athletic' version and a more 'luxurious/fashion' version?

Won't happen. Since when has Apple ever given the consumer a choice between really different versions of a new product (except different colors)?

Never - it is not the Apple way.

I must be missing something....is a watch not a piece of jewellery that looks elegant?

It can be, but it can also be strictly utilitarian.

This is the last watch I've owned. I don't think it looks like jewelry. I also don't think it's an elegant piece of technology either. Some things I consider to be elegant are the Mac Pro and the Mac remote.

Kate Upton walking the runway in a bikini while wearing the sporty version of the iWatch? Or maybe Apple is branching off into the clothing business? :p

More like Apple positioning their watch to be functional fashion rather than a smartwatch, most of which suck or are unappealing.

Smart move on Apple's part actually.

Remember the iPhone mockups back in 2006? No one got it right. I suspect it's the same now. It won't be ready for a few months. That's why we haven't seen any leaks. Just like January 2007. Watches aren't something that people replace on a regular cycle, so I don't see this as significant as the iPhone, but this could be as significant as the iPad over the long term.

Article that makes your point (and has pictures of some of those iPhone mockups) http://gizmodo.com/6-early-iphone-mockups-that-were-dead-wrong-1599503385

Simple. They'll connect with a lightning port or other small connection.

So all designers will be required to use the exact same sensors and there will be strict quality control to insure that they all are certified to meet a set accuracy standard? I'm not seeing that.

Like their old iPod accessory initiative, but a lot more curated.

Watches have become a personal fashion item.

But Switzerland based Swatch has a "perpetual" exclusive license to use liquid metal on watches. And until a couple of years ago, this license also covered use in jewelry. It was changed to only cover "watches" for some reason.

I can see Apple releasing their "wearable" and never ever call it a watch... Of course, Swatch could sue, or settle for a large amount of money, like Cisco did with the iPhone trademark.

Didn't Apple and Swatch have a little talk a while ago? Looks like liquid metal will be involved in this product.

Didn't you notice the iWatch on Upton's leaked pictures?
Well, neither did I, I was looking at something else.

Fashion piece you say ... the CHAVS will be all over it.

The big white building is an exhibition center to demonstrate the new hardware and iOS8
There are too many thing being released to have a pure stage event as in the past

The fashion industry is big on accessories & Apple have promised ‘..a whole lot more. If we can configure cars & sunglasses on the net, why can’t we configure a watch, Could be millions of combinations.

Using this mockup as an example:

http://media.idownloadblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/iWatch-concept-GridGameCase-001.png

just playing with figures here

The watch case could be in 20 colours
strap in 5 materials, 20 colours, 20 different styles
20 colours for the sensor square
3 different displays
2 sizes in each

20x5x20x20x20x3x2 = 4,800,000 combinations

Both the iPhone6 & the iwatch could be available in the same colour options

figures are just an example of course, but something similar could match the hype and could explain the ‘whole lot more’ on the flyer
