I think that this bluetooth headset is a waste of money ($129). There are better quality products out there. I can tell that this product will not cater to certain group of hearing impaired. I used a particular bluetooth headset that works great with my CIC hearing aids. The Apple headset will not work. Makes you wondered about Steve Jobs. Does he ever think about the hearing impaired because he has been neglecting those with disabilities to be able to use the Apple Products. I would like to see a disability lawyer challenge Apple and Steve Jobs.

And the blind people to!
Apple shipping a phone without braille - oh the humanity

In all reality Apple has a stellar track record (at least back to the late 1980s) of shipping an OS with many features for the visually and hearing impaired. Latest is Universal Access in the System Prefs.
Not meaning to make light, but your post was a little over the top...

I am very hesitant to buy a BT headset that uses a proprietary charging connector. Yeah, Magsafe is cool and all, but what if you need to charge it while on the road? Are you really going to lug the dock with you?

Miss the part about the travel cable that does both iPhone and headset?

dumb question

I have a question.

Can you listen to music through the headset, and just answer a call as it comes in; like with the wired headphones/mic the iPhone comes with ?

does anyone have any experience with the Motorola HS850 ? I saw it at Costco for about $35.00ish I think.

oh god how i second that.

I don't care how nice it is, you are still going to look stupid wearing one.

It's ok to wear one when you are driving for safety reasons, but people who wear them all the time are just wrong, especially if they are in the pub. ;)

agreed. it's moved well beyond silly and is now just plain annoying all
the people walking around with these in their ear 24-7. i work in customer
service and it's amazing how many people walk right up to me and
attempt to talk to me AND whoever's stuck in their ear at the same time.
i say "attempt" because i refuse to be dealt with like that and just ignore
them until their done.

not saying these headsets are TOTALLY evil. they have their place.
but too many of you are walking around looking like consumer cyborgs.
there's a big world out there waiting to be experienced when you're ready
to get off the phone.

or, if you MUST wear these things all day, PLEASE at least be aware of it and remove it when it could be a burden to others.
EXAMPLE: at a movie recently, a woman with bluetooth headset sat 3 rows ahead of me (and in front of about 2/3 of the audience). SHE (and the
lucky other 1/3) enjoyed the movie with little distraction. THE REST OF US,
did our best to enjoy the movie while trying to ignore the flashing blue light
coming off that woman's ear the entire time. in a dark room this is VERY distracting. and if you wear glasses (which produce glare) it's even more so.

so please...at the very least....take it off in a movie. unless it has no light
on it and you're affraid someone might see you NOT looking like an idiot for 2 hours.

i dont think $129 is ever justifiable for the headset... Even though i own the iPhone, i dont think its fair to make me pay an extra 129 for a headset...

As stated numerous times in this post, the headset is around $51 after you take into consideration the accessories that come with the headet.

Agreed as well. They're great if you're driving, constantly on the phone while doing other tasks (i.e., stockbrokers, corporate America)... but it's not fashion accessory. I've seen people praising the Jawbone, which to me seems like it's trying to be fashionable more than useful. Aesthetics are important, which is why I like the iPhone headset - minimal, but decent (or so it seems). But like you said, there's a time and a place for them. At least with this one you won't stand out too much!

As for the hearing impaired compatibility... it's unfortunate, but you can't expect every product to be able to cater to people with disabilities. There certainly are better BT headsets that cater to the hearing impaired, so get one of those. I'm sure they do a better job than the iPhone headset would even if it tried to be compatible.

When I first hear rumors of iPhone, I really though Apple would be the first to produce a decent stereo bluetooth headset (with mic). Especially since this is such a great iPod too, I'm really surprised they're not at least selling a stereo version. Last time I looked stereo bluetooth was over $300.

Well if you figure in what it comes with it costs alot less

iPhone travel cable: 29 dollars
New dock: 49 dollars
headset: 51 dollars

For comparison, I bought my Jabra JX10 for $99 last year. It also came with a dock, an AC adapter, and a USB travel adapter. It also had DSP noise cancelling technology that worked well (too bad it got swiped at work)... I don't recall Apple advertising a feature like that.

I've only seen one post that references a price of $51 for the headset alone.

Ya, maybe $129 with the accessories is an OK deal if you have an iPhone, but if you have just an ole BT phone, it might not be such a great deal. We'll have to wait and see what kind of quality the headset has.

i havnt been able to find out if you can actually use the bluetooth headset to listen to the ipod portion of the iPhone?

Looks good, I see you can use it as a bluetooth headset for your mac too, might see if I can get one, then at least I'll have part of the iPhone and you lot wont be having all the fun.

Hear, hear! If it's the only way to get a slice of the action, then count me in! :D

Why didn't you just ask her to remove it? I'm sure she had no idea it was distracting, and probably forgot she had it on. I have a rule for myself- you're not allowed to be annoyed at someone's inconsiderateness until you ask them to stop. If you bring it to their attention, any reasonable person will stop being inconsiderate- and if they still are obnoxious, then you have an even better story!

I read a blog not long ago about a guitarist whose entire performance was ruined by two inconsiderate people talking really loud right in front of them. The entire audience and guitarist were glaring at the talking people for the first half of the set- then as soon as someone says something to them they immediately stop and look embarressed. They just weren't aware of being inconsiderate- and we've all done that sometime or other.

Well I was lucky enough to score one at a local Apple store.

My 2cents..

Small, very very small. Which personally is a blessing and a curse. Its great looking and a complement to the phone, but at the same time it just looks way to small on my head. I don't see myself leaving this on as any sort of fashion statement. (Not that these are designed as such)

Sound quality is about as expected. Not bad, not great. I'm at home and cell reception is poor with any phone so I need to wait till later to try it out.

If you don't like the Apple iPod headphones, then don't bother. I don't mind them, but they are designed to come out of your ear and go down, which feels natural. This comes out and forward and thus far doesn't seem to feel right. It does feel very different, which may be the problem. I almost would have liked to see a small bend in the stem of so the angle is better.

The dual dock is great and it charged fast. I'll make my final decision over the next few days and then decide if I'll keep it or not.

How does the ear part compare, in size, to the iPhone ear buds. Is it smaller or the same size?

I scored a bluetooth headset also. Even though the price is kind of steep, I needed to get something to replace my Moto 850. I looked at and used the Jawbone (my girfriend has one) and it just didn't fit my ear correctly no matter how I adjusted it. The Apple headset is incredibly small and fits in my ear nicely with the felt pad attached. Calls are good to very good. I have a volume issue with my iPhone as most do, and my Moto 850 headset really didn't increase the volume to my liking. This Apple set has good volume when cranked so I guess I'll keep it. The added bonus of the dual charging dock and travel charger are just icing on the cake.

It does not. Just tried to listen to a song, and it came through the built in speaker. When a call came in, the volume on the speaker faded out and the headset turned on with a tone. When the call ended, the headset turned off and the song picked up where it left off through the speaker.

I hate how apple's packaging makes me want to buy EVERYTHING they come out with.

I was planning on buying it anyhow...maybe I'll pick one up soon.

That's a funny comment... since I'm assuming that you shop at A&F. :D

I don't much anymore...that username is a few years old and if I do I am hitting the sales rack. I've gotten smarter over the years.

My $50 Moto headset will do the exact same thing the Apple one will. Actually maybe more...not sure does this one have a button on it that you can press to use speakable commands? That is my favorite feature. I press the button and tell it who I want to call. It works great. I assume this would have similar features that is why I think it is overpriced.

hahahahahaha! oh man, I can't stop laughing, that was great!

Also, why would you buy this headset w/o owning an iPhone??????? It comes with an iPhone dock. Therefore its meant for the iPhone.

So for all the people who don't own one and are trying to compare it to other headsets, you have to think of what it would cost if it was just the headset. Probably a lot less. Considering (this was stated earlier) how much everything else costs.

I have one, the headset sounds good to really good. If you don't like the earbuds for the iPhone or new iPods, don't get it. Or get it and get something like the earjams to go with it.

All in all I'm happy with it, I have one dock for my iphone and bluetooth, not two. It might not have caller id but when compared to most of the ones that do I like the style of the apple one.
