Anyone love the Apple cases this year? I've already bought too many!

So far I've got the Apple Leather cases in black and saddle brown (had these on my X and were my favourite cases) and today got the Forrest Green Folio. Too many I know but now already thinking off the "regular" forrest green!. (I also like the product red!).....

In my opinion, year after year, I always return to the Apple cases. Love the quality, the protection and the way they age.

I bought the stone silicone case for my max, looks great with the gold. I use the case when I go out. But at home I rock it naked lol. Might just use the case for the gym only and go naked all the time. Decisions.

Ha! Yes, but about the phone!

I sometimes take mine out of a case when at home but don't have the nerve to do so outdoors.

With the amount you’re spending on cases, you could’ve gotten AppleCare+ and paid the deductible lol.

I checked out the Apple leather cases the other day at the Apple store. They look nice but I don’t feel they’d offer any protection other than from scratches.

I’ve got AppleCare+ as well! I bought a load of cases for my x last year. Said I wouldn’t this year but I admit, it’s not a food start!

Using a Zizo Bolt case for the Xs Max. Used one on my 6s Plus and was very happy with it.
Nice design. Good protection, and doesn’t add a lot of bulk.just the right amount of grip.
Comes with a holster but I’ve read the holster doesn’t last too long. Not a big deal for me as I don’t use holsters.
Also comes with a tempered glass thingy for the front but I already had a Zagg put on it.

I returned my black apple leather folio and bought this speck leather folio for $44.

Seems like the only feature that is missing is the sleep feature. Such a steal!

What didn't you like about the Apple one? I agree the price is a bit out of control. I had a little buyers remorse myself until I've gotten used to it now and don't have to carry my wallet anymore. I was really liking a couple of the Sena folios but they're pre-order and not coming out until mid October. Are you worried about that plastic on there scratching your screen or do you have a protector?

I had the Apple Leather Folio in black for my iPhone X. I literally never put more than 3 cards in there and the front of the case started showing an imprint that was the shape of the cards. The leather for the front flap is just too soft. It started looking really bad and the folio was not even my daily case. I only used it when I was rocking basketball shorts.

After a year of light use I couldn't justify the price point to actually buy it again and stick with it. The speck folio is a fraction of the cost ($44), arguably looks better, and even has the feature to double as a stand for the phone.

The only thing that I see that makes the apple better is the ability to hold cash (which I never carry) and a reliable sleep/wake feature. For me personally, that isn't worth paying another $100.

My advice is return the apple folio and get the speck leather and use the extra $100 on some watch bands if you have the apple watch lol or something else nice....

You'd be shocked. I have had them since they came out years ago and I am not easy on my phones. I have had some serious drops, took huge chunks out of the Apple leather case but the phone has ALWAYS survived without a scratch. The cherry on top is the leather case actually self heals, within a week or so the huge gouges blend in and are barely noticeable. Fantastic cases imo.

I've got my check card, license, and CCW license. I always keep a couple of $20's in there just in case. I'll probably keep mine. It's showing a little imprint but not really bad. I still plan on grabbing a Sena when they're actually ready. Oh, I have way too many bands. lol

Agreed. I've yet to drop mine yet. I'm not going to test that theory if I can help it. lol

For each iPhone I've had, I've typically used a few cases for different purposes. You might like one or more of these.

I usually get a nice leather one, like the Apple leather case (I like saddle brown the most, but the other colors are nice too). I've dropped my previous phones in the Apple leather case multiple times and the phones never suffered any damage, not even a scratch.

But still, if I'm at the gym or hiking or even walking a lot around a new city, I want more protection.

My protective case of choice is the Spigen Ultra Hybrid in Crystal Clear, for $13. I've used this case for all of my previous iPhones for the past 4 years. It's perfectly clear and doesn't yellow over time, because Spigen uses something other than TPU for the back. It's not quite as protective as an Otterbox Defender, but it's still very protective, with cushioned corners and a raised lip on the front and little raised bumpers on the back. I've dropped my previous iPhones many times in this case, including on concrete, and there has never been any damage.

Here's another clear Spigen case. It's thinner and hardly noticeable, but it's less protective. But it still has a raised lip around the front, and tiny cushions in the corners. I really like it. I've never owned this model for previous iPhones, I only just got it for my Max. Unfortunately the user reviews say that it starts turning yellow in 3 to 6 months, as it's 100% TPU. But it's cheap, and it really shows off the beauty of the iPhone while providing protection that's probably as good or slightly better than the Apple leather case.

Finally, QuadLock for bicycling. I've used QuadLock cases for my last few iPhones and will probably get one for my new Max. QuadLock is a system with multiple mounts - I have the bicycle and car mounts and they're very secure and durable. They make cases for every iPhone model plus some non-Apple phones. Every one of their phone cases attaches to every one of their mounts. So if you upgrade your phone to a different size, you have to get a new case ($30) but can use all of your same mounts. I bike a lot and heard about QuadLock from a bicycling publication a few years ago. At that time, I had a 6S Plus (or maybe a 7 Plus?) and gave the QuadLock system a try. I was impressed with how secure the bike mount is, and also the phone cases themselves are very good: they're reasonably thin yet very protective. I got the QuadLock car mount and like it a lot, but it's a bit overpriced and only works with the QuadLock case, whereas there are lots of cheap vent mounts that work with any case. But if you bike a lot, I really recommend you check out the QuadLock case with bike mount. I really, really like being able to glance down and see full Google Maps in bicycle mode.

Great post. Thanks. I'm also a fan of the Apple leather cases. I'd love a good clear case and will check out your recommendations. I don't like how they feel in the hand thought. I find they feel a bit sticky.

I’ve not tried an Apple leather case (yet), I tied a Apple silicon case on my iPhone 7 and hated it, far too rubbery and attracted dust, so I ended up with a slim case on my i7, now that I’ve upgraded to the iPhone Xs I have stuck with the slim hard type and use one of these on mine as it adds minimal bulk...

Keeps the Xs looking slim and sleek, not sure how much protection it adds, i also have a curved glass screen protector on.

Adam.
