Supported cameras

Where is that supported camera list they are referring to? And will it be possible to copy RAW-files from my 10D? They raw's don't have to show up, as long as I can transfer them, I will buy the iPod and Camera connector right away...

Here's the link to the supported cameras:

http://www.apple.com/ipod/compatibility/cameraconnector.html

Under Canon's supported SLR's they list the EOS 20D and the EOS D30

Seems VERY strange to include the first and fourth in the series, but not include the second and third.

-----

EDIT - Just noticed, at the bottom of the page, it does say:

This list represents only cameras currently tested by Apple, and does not include all cameras that are supported. The iPod Camera Connector works with digital cameras that support the following transfer protocols: Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4 (sometimes referred to as "Normal"). Please consult the documentation included with your digital camera to verify support.

RAW support for uploads ...

yeah.... same here

Latest Apple support posting seem to imply that RAW imports might be possible:

"The Photo Import feature for iPod photo will only import the items that your camera has stored inside the DCIM folder on its media card. Some cameras store movies and sound recordings outside the DCIM folder. If you use the Mass Storage protocol, these items will not be imported. With most cameras, if you use the PTP protocol, movies and sounds should be imported with your photos."

Sincew RAW is stored inside the DCIM folder, we might get lucky

Thanks for posting those links. well, it seems that non-supported camera's can be used through a media-reader. And as long as all the information you need is in the DCIM folder we might get what we want.
Will everything that is downloaded be available to extract from the iPod to my Mac again (RAW-files etc)?
I'm surely tempted to jump in now !!!

I have the first model (S100) Dig. ELF. It is not on Apple's list of supported cameras. Does anyone out there know if it is supported?

Okay, would anybody care to explain why, after updating to the new firmware released today, my 3G iPod now has a "Photo Import" menu item?

photo import has been there on mine since the upgrade that came out when belkin released the cardreader & cameraconnector... old news ;)

After a lot of research, this looks like a slow blah option to me.

I'll stick with putting the iBook in my 600AW bag. Yeah, it's not light but it works. :D

transfer pix to photo w/upgrade?

the belkin digital camera link for ipod, £69.99 ($120 or so)

its in the ipod store, under Extras.

for all ipods with dock connector :)

however it does just mean it's a USB adapter for the thing.. no firewire port or mention of USB2 (i'd be horrified if it didnt have!)

can this transfer pictures directly to photo ipod with new ipod firmware upgrade. or the apple connector is required?

this is around for some time, it works with 3G & 4G iPods and so it won't need the apple firmware upgrade :edit: I guess it will work with the newer iPods too with new firmware, this ould be cruel from apple's side to disable this.... :edit: unlike the apple connector this will need batterypower... and so I've heared just like the media reader from belkin its quite slow... let's hope the Apple connector is faster... but off course I need to buy a new iPod (good marketing for their iPod Photo) and a new DSLR (but since the real Pro ones aren't listed under the supported camera's tough luck for us professionails, even my 'old' D100 is not in the listing :p

otherwise this would be a great product, but offcourse they count on the fact that we professionails will buy en iBook or PowerBook to be able to view the results on HighRes, but I would like this to work as other mediadrives where you can download your images onto...

but they made their connector so it will preview on the iPodPhoto screen... defenetely not targetting any Professional but people who take their camera & iPod on vacation and don't need to drag along a laptop & view their images on the iPod...

Well, when it time to replace your iPod, the Photo version might be a choice for some with this new connector. Of course some will buy it any how, and the profits keep rolling in for Apple.

Keep in mind this from the Apple page on the list of cameras:

This list represents only cameras currently tested by Apple, and does not include all cameras that are supported.

It would be helpful if Apple listed the cameras that they tested and the connector failed.

As one that goes out on a shoot with my iPod, the option of being able to have the connector available when I am running short on memory cards, would be nice.

So has it been confirmed, via experimentation, the the camera connector won't work on non ipod-photos? I have a 4g (or maybe 3g) but it's non-photo and I'd like to use my ipod as a storage device (i'm aware of the hardware available from belkin but given that it's slowed and much more expensive I'd like to go with this piece of apple hardware if possible).

thx.
