[/COLOR]Why I purchased the iPad mini? Well first I've owned the original iPad the iPad 3 and iPhone, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4s. I sold the iPad and kept the iPad 3. For me for everyday use I'm a pilot and ride my motorcycle to work do for me it is a no brainer. It's all about the size and portability. Yes the iPad 3 has a bigger screen but also a bit bigger to carry and hold. As a pilot I use my iPad about 4-8 hours a day do I get plenty of use out of it. Not only is it used for navigation and charts but also for weather briefings and notes. Myself could care less if it is said to have an lower resolution screen. Having great eyesight I don't need a retina display to be able to see everything. :)
Now my wife lives it because she just upgraded from the original iPad to the iPad 3. Big upgrade for her and she said the minis resolution was lacking! But to tell you the truth so is her eyesight. :) why people seen to have to find fault with everything apple puts out is really crazy. If you don't like it or it doesn't work for you? It's simple DON'T buy it. Quit you bitching and find another apple product or better yet another brand and buy it, use it and be happy and quite your complaining.
This is a fantastic device for its intensions and for flying it's the perfect size and weight. For me it's the mini. Sure I'll still use the iPad 3 at home from time to time but the mini is so much more convenient to use.

The only reason that the iPad mini exists is because of the price. There is absolutely no need for the iPad mini. It's a completely useless device.

For people with an iPad, why would you even think of getting the iPad mini?

It's just made for people who wants an iPad, but can't afford one. Or it's just for people who really are bugged by the size of the original iPad, which I highly doubt that.

I've had an iPad, iPad 2 and own the New iPad. I got the Mini Friday and I love it. I can see this form factor taking off and outselling the original. Not based on "price" but portability. It's size and weight are great. He'll I'll be using the mini for everything but movie watching. Like a TV, bigger is better for that.

So to answer you question. SIZE AND WEIGHT!

You don't loose functionality with the mini, "it's every inch an iPad, only smaller!"

How long do you think your kid will keep the tablet? They are 9-11 now but in two years, they are 11 to 13 and they will need something more than just watching movie. They may actually need the tablet to work on their school work (doing research etc.). If movie, email etc is what they will do, Nexus 7 or Amzn fire HD may do....

Just purchased a mini for my 12 year old. For his birthday he will get an ATV, 23 in LCD and Bluetooth keyboard. Add a printer and he is no set for not only games, movies with friends but also a basic system to allow him to do research for school, type papers and more. The best part is the size and portability. Sure in two years he may need more but all I need to do is sell the original mini and update the original to the latest and greatest and he set once again. Anyone else thinking of the same set up for their kids?
We've got an ATV on every tv so we know have monitors in every room to mirror what ever you need to.

I know some will strongly disagree (and that's ok), but for me tablets are more for fun then work...with that said, my 11 year old already has PC in her room...my 9 year old isn't far behind in getting one....11 year old is probably less then a year away from getting a laptop as well...two years seem like forever these days...if they get a 2 good years out of a $200 tablet I will be more then happy...

Well I misspoke. After going into the Apple Store today I simply could not pass on the mini. Size and weight is just too good to pass up. The screen was bigger than I thought it would be.

I also must be blind because I could not really tell the difference in the Retina screen and the normal screen. I have an ipad 1 and I never thought the screen was bad so I don't get all the complaining about non retina screens.

You're not blind. You adapted.

sure.. If 2 good years what you are looking for and Nexus 7 or Amazon can fit the bill, it is a great choice. IDC is projecting that Android and Window 8 will have about 40% tablet market share by end of this year with the other 60% market share go to Apple. There will be a lot of people happy about choice other than Apple. It is a good thing that we all have quite a few good choices in the market now..

Apple has always been about quality build, quality software, quality user experience, unparalleled customer support and product support. And customers pay their money for it, if it was free, Apple wouldn't be the most valued company on Earth right now.
Lmao.

This must be the biggest douchebaggery I've ever seen on MacRumors boards.

Ignorant

Over 5 million kindle fires sold Christmas 2011. This was entirely due to size and price. The ipad mini competes with both. Definition for a useless device: one for which there is no need or demand for in the marketplace. Definition for a non-useless device: one for which there is high demand for and which people purchase and love.

I use the word ignorant in the header literally. It's ignorant to use the word useless when there's not a single qualifier the iPad mini meets for the definition. But here's another definition for any word geeks out there: useless post, one in which the poster blathers on, mistaking their uninformed opinion as market reality, thereby filling up forum space with their detritus.
