No matter what way you look at it the pricing is different, certainly here in the UK.

If you consider three tiers of iPad (let's just consider WiFi now for easiness), not taking into account whatever storage is in them, you have a base a mid and a top tier. So for launch prices, you get this:

iPad Pro 9.7” Base Tier: £499. Mid Tier: £619. Top Tier: £739

iPad Air 2 Base Tier: £399. Mid Tier: £479. Top Tier: £559

In order to get the closest price to specification comparison, you obviously need to compare the 128GB models, so that's:

iPad Pro 9.7" 128GB WiFi £619

iPad Air 2 128Gb WiFi £ 559

But the overriding factors in all of this are, well, they aren't the same device obviously, you don't have to buy it and everyone has a different view on what they consider value for money. Has it occurred to anyone that we've been lucky all of these years? Despite constantly improving the product, the performance and the technology, Apple have kept the same price point. Maybe, just maybe it's only a thought (and I'm not having good ones of those, I'm highly medicated) this time they actually added more than they normally would. Rather than just a spec bump and relatively minor changes, there's actually not just one, but up to two seriously big changes in the screen tech that required entirely new screens, controllers and all of the associated subsystems to keep it all ticking along nicely. The memory configuration has changed from 16/64/128 to 32/128/256.

Is Apple ripping anyone off, of course not, thats just ridiculous. If you couldn't survive in your day-to-day life without an iPad, if it was essential to survival and it was the only one available. Then and only then could it be considered that they were taking advantage of a monopolistic environment and forcing higher prices upon us.
As it is, to state the rather obvious, it's a luxury, non essential item. If you think it's worth the money and you want one, buy it, enjoy it, it's a great device. Literally anything else, don't buy it, find something else that you do consider to be value for money and enjoy that instead. Problem solved, happy little people.

Edit,
Yeah I really need to wait until my medication settles in before I start rambling on, either that or I need more. Lets try the second option first :D
Very nicely put, despite the medication. :)

Well it has its downsides and some very pleasant upsides :D

I'd still sooner have my normal life back and be without it. Would be nice to go back to a paying job instead of making sodding apps no one gives a flying fig about (fair enough I suppose) but thems the breaks and it at least keeps me occupied.

Oh yeah, waffling on ^ is definitely one of the down sides :p

Hi guys

I considered getting the new Ipad Pro, but the more I look into it I can't get myself to buy it, because I realised that Apple is milking the cash cow even more than they used to.

For the following, please if you disagree, let me know and I will reconsider my point(s).

- Ipad Pro's price point does not justify the extra features it has.
- Ipad smart keyboard is $149
- Apple doesn't offer the leather ipad cover's anymore for Ipad Pro. Instead you have to buy a silicone cover which is $69 and the smart cover which is $49 = $118 for a case option
- Apple Pencil is another $99.

I was looking to get an Ipad with 128 gb (since there's no 64Gb) option. Even if I just went with the smart keyboard (no pencil and no case) it would be $1077.

In Denmark (where I live) it's $1391 because of taxes.

I just think it's unreasonable.

What do you guys think?

*sigh* It's Apple.. Move along..

If you want cheap, buy a Samsung. Just don't expect updates.

If you are planning on using as a laptop, I have owned 11 Macbook Air, 13 and 15, this will not replace the laptop currently for INTENSIVE laptop tasks: complex documents, spreadsheets, and ppts.

HOWEVER, if you want to take notes, draw, do simpler office documents, etc. The Pro is GREAT - loving mine.

You can drive a nail with a wrench, but a hammer usually works better. If you want to tighten nuts and bolts, get a wrench. If you want to drive nails, get a hammer.

Great question and your numbers are all spot on. I am quite happy with all aspects of my iPad Pro. Getting close to a laptop replacement... one other thought... as the apps get better (Office, etc) the gap will close too. Not sure I would like the Office app experience on anything smaller than a full size iPad Pro though for creation. For consumption, probably does not matter as much. Being able to mark up a document with the pencil is very useful however.

Apples's prices might be high but they are not ripping anyone off. You don't have to buy them, they aren't putting a gun to anyone's head. If you think their prices are ridiculous, don't buy them and go elsewhere. It's not rocket science. But to say Apple is ripping people off is a little ridiculous.

Then. Don't. Buy. It.

If you feel it's not worth it, you are not being forced to hand over your money. You can't be "ripped off" if you're not handing over the cash to begin with.

I didn't, got an iPad Air 2. The price is a lot more tolerable for a tablet. The fact is Apple wouldn't bother raising their prices if no one bites on a price increase for an incremental upgrade, they would be forced to align products in a more realistic fashion price vs capability size, however that is out of the question for most folks on this forum as they blindly go for the latest and greatest.

That's not true though. The 32gb iPad costs exactly the same as every 32gb iPad did on release day before it. The 128gb iPad costs $50 more than the previous 128gb iPad and $50 LESS than every other 128gb iPad before that one. People have latched on to this price thing irrationally just to create something to complain about.

Your right, never thought about it that way. That's a rational thought... However the price of an all package deal (pencil, case and Smart Cover) are priced absurdly, 1500$? That's definitely MacBook territory.
