Apple is Testing These iPhone 18 Pro and Foldable iPhone Colors

The special new color that Apple is considering for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max this year is red, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Specifically, he said that Apple is testing a "deep red" finish for the two devices.

If this rumor materializes, it would be the first time that the Pro and Pro Max models ever come in red, and the iPhone 18 Pro models would be the first iPhone models to be available in red since the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in (PRODUCT)RED. However, it sounds like it would be more of a burgundy finish than a bright red.

While it was previously rumored that Apple was also considering purple and brown finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro models, Gurman said he believes that those color options are "just variants of the same red idea — given that the tones are fairly similar." In other words, it sounds like those two color options will not actually be offered.

As for the foldable iPhone, Gurman said Apple plans to "stay away from fun colors" and stick to more traditional space gray/black and silver/white finishes.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and foldable iPhone models in September.

Bigger screen = more content. Side by side apps. Those are pretty simple ideas to start with. Dealing with trade offs in the form factor might be the real question you are wanting to understand. As always, i think that comes down to the individual. These questions were the same with the iPhone Air (why would you ever want a thinner phone?).

It's literally the ability to turn it into a bigger screen while also not taking up that much more space in your pocket. That said, I'm not interested myself. The tradeoff's of having a screen that is plastic again so it can bend, and the additional failure points of a hinge are just a hard pass for me. I don't think the tradeoffs are worth it. I'd rather just grab my iPad or laptop if I want a bigger screen.

I’m sure some people will like this, but I think for must of us it’s a cool demo that we would never use it in practice. Windows-based multitasking on a touch device feels unnatural, specially when the screen is smaller than that of an iPad mini. In general, it’s just more convenient to switch between apps.

That said, I think a foldable’s inner screen is still useful for a full-screen experience.

As an ereader on the go. I had a Z Fold 3 for a while and I used the Kindle app a lot more and doom scrolled a lot less. That said, if the device has the same issues with being fragile I won’t go back to one. If they were as hard to break as a slab than I would go back to one.

So it sounds like we’ll have silver, navy blue or black, and this dark red color. I guess that’s better than this year kinda? Hopefully the “red” is more of a cherry wine color. Kind of like the old ipad mini 6 folio color. That would be nice.

If its just straight “burgundy “ I’m not sure that is any better than the loud orange.

I have the orange 17 Pro Max and I freaking love it! I’m going for a silver Fold this year but will switch back and forth with the orange phone and Fold.
