What a find tracking down the signer of the trademark application for iSlate!

Are they calling it the "iSlate" because it "is late?" Ha ha, ha... ha...

*ahem*

Some damn fine journalism there, MacRumors. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Steve Jobs has been working on for so long. As an owner of a MacBook Pro and an iPhone, I'm not sure if I am really in need of a tablet, but Apple sure has my attention, that's for sure.

I actually lol'd at this

On the hardware front:

iPod: Classic | Shuffle | Nano | Touch
iPhone

Apple Cinema Display
Apple Keyboard
Magic Mouse  not sure why it is not called the Apple Mouse

MacMini
MacPro
iMac
MacBook
MacBook Pro

This thing will be called "i" Something or even as suggested Slate. Not sure why the Mouse is called Magic it should have been named Apple Mouse to fit into the Keyboard and Cinema Display. Odd naming convention regarding the Mouse, unless Apple plans on relating it to some "MagicSlate."

Lets play the waiting game, its less than a month away.

The Mighty Mouse has been re-branded as "Apple Mouse".

Well, I for one can't imagine it being called the "Magic Slate."

Way too corny (and unimaginative and juvenile) for Apple. It sounds too much like a fancy Etch-a-Sketch.

Unless, of course, we're going to see something beyond eye-popping. Uber. Epic. Something about which hasn't even been speculated. And yes, I've seen the posts about the posited tactile feedback and back sensitivity. They wouldn't qualify, in my opinion.

As others have stated, I also am very weary of iThis and iThat.

Something simple like "Slate" would be quite welcome.

I'm not even sold it's going to be called Slate. A long time has passed since the necessaries were acquired. Anything could happen.

No one ever would have guessed an mp3 player would be called an iPod.

But if we're going to stick with i-something ... I like iFree or iRoam. Or iDesk. iMobile. iTap. iMedia. Or iBook, ipad, as others have speculated.

Unless, of course, the term Magic becomes a core branding strategy and not just a one-off mouse name.

It seems too presumptuous to call something Magic. Even for Apple. Especially 4 or 5 years from now, when it no longer seems quite so ... magic.

Frankly, if they called it Mac Freedom or Mac Free -- well I think that would be quite cool.

"I'd like to buy a Mac Free."

Enough brainstorming, sorry for the long post.

So, since the all the products with OS X have "Mac" in their name, is this more evidence that the tablet with run on something simpler (i.e. the iPhone OS)?

Seems at this point to double as a Waacom tablet for wireless use with iMac, Macbook, etc.

I'm excited :)

iSlate makes sense for the name of the device, and Magic Slate also makes sense for a peripheral device for the iSlate.

Here's an interesting pattern:

Looking at the list above, all of the devices that use OSX have the word "Mac" in them (bolded).

All of the devices that do not use OSX do not have the word "Mac" in them.

If the name of the tablet is 'iSlate', perhaps that means that it won't be using Mac OSX (or a version of it).

I think that this "iSlate" will use a version of the iPhone OS.

EDIT: looks like Shot22 beat me to posting this idea (I was composing my comment when he posted). Great minds.....:D

OH MY GOD! how many people are going to use this joke?? it's not funny and it has been said several times before in the previous iSlate story. You aren't original -_-

its really not that serious.

2nd

So if its on iPhone OS, then it wouldnt be replacing the MacBook Air.

I like the names Slate, MacSlate or MacTablet, but Magic Slate is just pathetic. Is it a toy or a magic trick or what? I also don't like the name iSlate!

I'm getting a bit tired of the "i" everything. I'm hoping they just call it the Slate.

slate is kinda generic. can they really get a patent for the word Slate?

i mean why are they naming something so revolutionary, somethin so pre-historic anyways?

To revolutionize history. A device that may recognize handwriting as it was meant for the digital age. First slate, then paper, then digital slate. I think it may be brilliant.
