This was a non-starter.
On the other hand, healthy competition from Android makes both Apple and Android better.
You can see elements of the competitor in each.
There is room for both as indicated by profits.

If you are BB or Microsoft, then.

I would never normally have dreamed of switching to Android.

However, if Apple don't bring out a flagship 4" iPhone, I may consider either getting an Android or a simple dumbphone. With an iPad, I already have plenty of portability and a cohesive ecosystem with my Mac.

Are there any 4" flagship Android phones?

I think the closest in size is the Sony Z5 Compact. It's got a body similar to the size of the iPhone 5S.

But even with smaller bezels... the top of its 4.6" screen is still higher than the iPhone 5S. (might affect reaching the top of the screen)

It's also got a Snapdragon 810. Not sure if that is flagship status anymore. And the screen is only 1280x720. Same PPI as the 5S though.

And yet you haven't switched in 7 years...

I've never owned an iPhone. Ever since my awful experience with an iPod, it's left a bitter taste in my mouth that's made me avoid Apple's poor lineup of mobile devices.

Of all the features Apple has introduced you chose custom keyboards as the holy grail of Android differentiation.
Haha! Hope those keyboards were worth the long wait for ya.

I wasn't aware I labeled it as a 'holy grail of Android differentiation'. Did you purposely make that comment to put words in my mouth?

Are you aware that there are a LOT of things Android can do that iOS does not or are you being deliberately ignorant?

Wow...the idiocy of Apple fan boys continues to astonish me. So high and mighty. Seems like Google likes playing with apple (Maps, Drive, Search, Music, etc) while apple continues to not realize the benefits. There is a reason why Android continues to win the World market numbers. Apple's MO lately has been nothing but Bash and Sue. Google is all about innovation. And while everyone will bask in the glory of concepts like Google's Brillo (Real life changing applications like AR in the Medical World), Apple will fall far behind the world market.

And to those that say Android is so buggy, you have 0 concept of today's SDK's, so don't spew uneducated nonsense. Apple has been 1,000,000 more buggier since 9.0 was released. Marshmallow > iOS 9.2

It might have something to do with Android phones being available as low as $50 or $100 around the world.

Cheaper things sell in greater volume... and thus have more market share.

Meanwhile... Apple's phones start at $450 but actually average around $670.

Did some body in the EU really push the idea at the begging of their carriers? Nonsensical was a great, polite word to describe the idea.

Android isn't making a switch to iOS app! But noooooo.....no one isn't complaining to them about it. -_____-

In a fair, progressive world, there would be an official app available on both platforms to ease the transition from one platform to another as a gesture of good will toward customers. Apple would earn even more respect if they offered such an app and that would put pressure on Google to do the same.

So we'd need 4 apps total:

from Apple: Android to iOS and iOS to Android

from Google: Android to iOS and iOS to Android

So far Apple has released one app to go from Android to iOS... and Google has released zero apps.

Like I said, if Apple releases it, I think Google will feel the pressure to do the same. Of course, both companies may feel the pressure first from the EU to do this. Is it wrong to offer a platform transition app as a courtesy to your customers, even if it allows them to switch to your competition? Customers who may have spent thousands of dollars on your products, but for one reason or another have decided to make a change? I've never owned an Android phone and may never buy one, but if Apple did this, I would probably think Damn, Apple is one hell of a company for doing something like this!.

Google doesn't need an app. Just use your gmail account within exchange and sync all your info, data, etc to Gmail. Then disable imessages. Now, start Android phone, enter gmail credentials, wait, then profit.

Imessages probably won't transfer, but that's due to Apple not releasing any API's for that.

It's crazy to think Apple should make another app go the other way... since Google has done nothing so far.

Let's let Google make an app before Apple makes another.

Not all iPhone users have a GMail account.

I do... so I could switch to Android fairly easily.

But I know plenty of people who use their Comcast email or whatever on their iPhone.

Yes, and for those people, an app would facilitate that transition.

Why doesn't the government force Google to make an app to help iPhone users go TO Android?

Apple has already made an app to go from Android to iPhone.

Google should do something too if they want people to go from iPhone to Android.

I think you need to step back and find out why you're such an Android fan boy, and how that clouds your vision of the real world.

Move to Android app is silly. The rumor that isn't silly is the headphone jack rumor. I will be so disappointed if Apple doesn't remove the 3.5 mm headphone jack. They definitely should get rid of that ancient tech. It's the crustiest technology still clinging to our devices. Can't wait to get rid of that and have legit wireless. Also, in the future my dream devices (laptops and mobiles) will have ZERO ports. Wireless is the future. Deal with it :)

I heard a rumor that Apple was building an open API for samsung to get their latest designs straight from the Apple Design studio. Was tested recently during the design phase of the battery case
Yep...guess that is why the A9 was made by Samsung and Apple is in talks to getSamsung oled screens in 2017 or 2018. That is 4 years behind Samsung. Rolls eyes.
Oh and wait..the iphone 7 will have wireless charging. Ugh! I hate copy cats.

Because Apple refuses to allow such an app.

Why isn't THAT the headline?

Apple probably did a lot of research to examine the following:

What percentage of iPhone users have NEVER plugged anything into the headphone jack?
What percentage of iPhone users use the included 3.5mm EarPods and will therefore use Lightning EarPods?
What percentage of iPhone users use Bluetooth in headphones, headsets and their cars?

Those three likely add up to be a significant portion of iPhone users.

Then for everyone else... they can use a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter for existing headphones and AUX connections.

So at least it will be POSSIBLE to use your existing gear. It won't be sexy... and it probably won't be free... but it's better than throwing everything out.

If Apple believes the 3.5mm headphone jack needs to go... then it's gonna go. And there's not much difference between doing it in 2016 with iPhone 7... or waiting until 2018 with iPhone 8.

It doesn't affect me personally... I'm EarPods in the house and Bluetooth in the car. But I do realize that there will be friction for some people.

I'm sure Apple realizes that too... but all major changes cause some kind of friction.

On the other hand, I continue to find the average Android user's inferiority complex to be quite amusing. Thank you for providing the perfect example with your post.

So you're not an Apple user, but take the time to log onto an Apple forum to post derogatory comments? Yikes. You have a lot more to worry about than Apple's lineup of products.
