Yay! It works.

I love my new MacBook except the trackpad was driving me batty. It would register clicks about 1/2 the time at best. The cursor would freeze. I usually couldn't select text successfully.

The firmware update went well and seems to have fixed all of those problems though the cursor freeze one was rare enough that it will take a day or two to be completely sure. But so far so good.

Phew!

Looks like i will have to now cancel my refund! I'd just about packaged my second MacBook up and reinstalled Leopard but after reading this thread i've installed the firmware update and it SEEMS to really work! Amazing! What did they do???

I'm going to reinstall ALL my stuff and see how I go and report back later tomorrow. But so far so good...well done Steve and thanks for listening.

... I've got all kind of issues with the notebook waking back up from sleep on it's own in my backpack and getting real hot and running down the battery. Also, sometimes it won't come back on after sleep without a hard reset. Waiting on a patch for that, Apple.

Looks like we'll keep waiting for that one. I've had sleep issues since my first macbook, and that was 3 laptops ago!, i'm pretty bummed to see it's still there. This update seems to have worked with me. I'd have to do 3 or 4 clicks before it reacted.

uh....

i was all excited to see the update and all, and well started to do the update and it went most of the way and then quit...i let it sit for a little just hoping it would come back, when i came back looked at the top and the clock still said 20 minutes ago and nothing was happening i decided to turn it off....now when it restarted and said it was updated and my trackpad worked just fine and all.....just a little odd to me and left me wondering whether it really updated or if it just thinks it updated.

How long should this take? It's been at "Finishing..." for 30 minutes.

I hadn't noticed anything wrong with my trackpad, but it does feel more responsive after the update. Took about 15 seconds.

There are a large variety of external things that can wake up a MacBook when it's sleeping. For example, lots of people have their notebook set (inadvertently) to wake on a Bluetooth signal. You walk past somebody in the hallway with a discoverable Bluetooth phone and your Mac wakes up. Go through your various System Preferences panels and make sure anything that says "Wake on..." is turned off. Once done, your auto-wake problem will probably go away.

Praise be!

It works. Finally, the clicking works! Hallelujah!

Never thought I would get so attached to that particular tactile feedback.

updated and working well so far. i've not done a lot of typing just yet (which is where i saw this bug the most) but net scrolling seems flawless. that bug almost made me return this laptop, glad they squished it

Holy sh-it! I thought I was the only one. Actually, I thought the hardware was dying. Good news for me.
