I know this isn't that big of a deal, but I'd love to see iTunes LP on my iPad as well.

And iTunes Extras. THey should be on the iPad and the Apple TV. It is rather lame they are not. As I recall they are just fancy webpages so it should be easy to do. Contracts are probably holding it back. Just like contracts force them into other lame movies like you can rent or buy the SD version but only rent the HD. And only on the iPad or Apple TV. not on your computer.

it's also lame that they automatically queue a download of both the SD and the HD. Let us choice either or both. It would take one line in our account settings.

OK, think about it, they show the retina display and lack of home button in the invitation, which makes me curious if there isn't something of more importance to be revealed. And I guess they hint at it in the invitation too: "We have something you really have to see [retina display] AND TOUCH".

Anybody remembering the Senseg "TACTILE PIXEL" technology?

And the practical purpose to this would be . . .

----------

Why is LTE so important? how often would you use your iPad where you wouldn't have WiFi?

i do it at work on a regular basis. 3 out of 6 days pretty much. Location shoots we can't rely on having wifi

----------

Actually you may be on to something here. Looking back several posts was the other media event pics. The one for the ipad with the date of the 2nd, corresponds to the ipad 2.

as i recall the event was on March 2nd, so there goes that idea

----------

but I cant watch another boring ass presentation with Tim Cook, Scott Forestall, and Phil Schiller..

Then don't. there will be plenty of play by play blogs for you to get the details without the 'boring' stuff.

----------

Do you think this is going to release the same day or a month later?

won't be the same day. we would have heard leaks if it was from the store prep.

more likely the end of the next week. or if it does have LTE that likely needs FCC approval so a week later for wifi and perhaps 4-6 weeks later we get the LTE one. like what happened with the original iPad

It could make touch typing with the on-screen keyboard a bit more practical.

By Apple TV, they are referring to the Apple "hobby product" - the TV-topbox, not the rumored new Apple TV-all-in-one.

there, fixed it for ya

Maybe.. I'd love you to be right! I just had a troublesome ATV replaced last week, and now I'm wishing I'd waited another 2 weeks before doing it, I might have a new ATV3 for free!

Not if it was replaced under warranty. All such are like for like. They won't even let you switch colors on a phone or iPod.

what what what what if???

what if the release isn't an Ipad at all, what if it was a new computer called the Macbook Move that had a detachable screen that was shaped somewhat like an ipad and ran a special OS that caused the dock to appear similar to that of an iOS device but had the full capabilities of something running OSX with keyboard, trackpad, and an actual processor (not this A*number* crap)

so the actual body of the computer connects to the screen via a wireless/bluetooth/some new transmission type apple invented
it can then either act as a computer or a tablet computer or an ipad with the ability to run iOS apps and OSX apps. The Transportable All in One (imac appropriation)

now THAT would be an awesome product...

so yeah, all of the ipad 3 casings are complete decoys and this new product is going to rock everyones world.

Sounds like you're the type of person who can't appreciate the beauty of the iPad concept - - perhaps you'd be happier with an Asus PadFone?

Or much more interesting, TeslaTouch, a technology similar to Senseg's, but developed by DISNEY (yes the Disney where Steve Jobs was a member of the board of directors!!!)

http://www.disneyresearch.com/research/projects/hci_teslatouch_drp.htm

Well, if you ask me, we get to feel what we are touching on the iPad.
And in combination with the new AppleTV, which is for sure going to be revealed there too, you have the perfect gaming controller (and mic for Siri) because you could feel the buttons displayed on the iPad.
Going to be awesome!

And the practical purpose to this would be . . .

For example in Garageband, you could really feel the instruments, feel the friction of knobs and sliders.
In a painting software you would feel the paint, when writing stuff you would feel the keys of the keyboard. In games you would get a sense where the buttons and sticks (circlepads) are without having to look. In iBooks you would really get the sensation of turning paper pages. In combination with AppleTV you'd have the perfect gaming controller (and mic for Siri) because you could feel the buttons displayed on the iPad and so on. You get the point.
This kind of technology makes the experience so much more immersive and graspable. It's the missing link between touch displays and the user.
Maybe it doesn't come with the iPad 3, but it will for sure be implemented in every touch device of the future.

I have started a thread about it:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1332489/

We've even found out that Apple itself is holding patents for such technology!

Jeez, Apple is going to release an iPad with a freakin 3,15 megapixel screen and you'll all be disappointed because it doesn't fly and make coffee at the same time.

For example in Garageband, you could really feel the instruments,

Then play a real instrument, paint with real paints etc

This is digital and such things don't improve the digital experience.

They are akin to putting fake meat flavor in faux meat for vegans. I choose not to eat meat, if I wanted the flavor of meat I wouldn't have made that choice

We've even found out that Apple itself is holding patents for such technology!

Apple has a lot of patents they never intend to use. Money from licensing them is still money after all

Hahaha, oh man, you've cracked it!! People are using touch devices because they don't want to get physical feedback. Obviously everybody likes to have it as numb as possible. And why even integrate color display, people can go visit places if they want to see them in color. And the headphone jack? People should go hear their favorite bands in concert...
I myself don't see how feeling the buttons of a game while streaming it to my AppleTV could improve the experience at all...
But let's see what the Apple engineers say about such technology in their own patent:
"Research has shown that providing the multi-touch surface with the ability to provide physical (haptic) feedback makes the multi-touch experience even more efficient and realistic to the user," [...]

"For example, physical keyboards provide a physical indication (a bump, for example) indicative of the home key. This physical sensation can not be provided by a conventional multi-touch system thereby forcing the user to visually locate the home key thereby making keyboard use less efficient and fatiguing."

Yes, sounds like useless technology, they obviously hold it for licensing purposes only. They would never make money with devices featuring it.

No really, you seem to be as ignorant as the people who said that phones without buttons are useless and would never sell because of the missing physical feedback. Well, only just like their exact opposite.

"and touch" has to mean something. of course the picture already implies an iOS device so why would they say "and touch". unless new iPod touches on the way (iPod touches with A5X?). :D

hmm all i have to say it be interesting to see what they will announce that day. Who thinks how fast will they ship it out??

you lost me at 'detachable screen'

It's true that you can't do much afterwards. But it allows you to see your recent notifications. Like if you just missed a call from someone or got a text message. Then you can decide how important it is and if you should take off the gloves.

Ever consider the sleep/wake button?

I’m still going with some kind of advancement in the touch technology: haptic feedback, pressure sensitivity, etc.

It’s interesting the Yerba Buena Center windows are being done up with swaths of color, like paint stroke from an artists brush. Could be just an abstract bit of design, but certainly a touch device with pressure control or feedback would make a really outstanding painting/art/design tool.

That's one of the reasons I said (#1043) there's going to be a tactile iMac or MBP...

1st: Everything on Apple is tactile except for the Macs, so what's the point on writing "and touch" on the invitation?
2nd: Lion OS inverted scroll is intentionally designed for on-screen touch scroll
3rd: If you go to the spanish official Mountain Lion information site (http://www.apple.com/es/macosx/mount.../features.html), you can read that notifications can be easily prompted by "desliza un dedo", what is translated as swipe one finger
4th: One of the new products codes to be launched "MC744LL/A" is a Mac code, not an iPad code

Larger screen/device?

Maybe someone has commented on this already. The iPad picture with
the finger pointing at the calendar app. The calendar icon and the black frame
look 40% larger compared to iPad 2. Is this a picture of a much larger screen?

Yes the picture is of the unannounced "iTable" 24 inch tablet coming soon..

Te equivocas...

1 it's just a text, no hidden meanings here.
2 Is designed to mimic the iOS scroll so the Mac is controlled as the iToys are.
3 You can slide your finger when using a magic trackpad
4 Don't know about that

Touch screen iMac

I agree Fromspain
This would make sense, see my posting on the larger than normal icons
compared to the size of the models finger. The mountain lion upgrade
is supposed to bring iPad like functionality to the iMac!

Nothing better to look at than a finger smudged iMac screen. A touch screen desktop computer makes zero sense. Not to mention arm fatigue due to a vertical plane screen.

Apple has already thought of a solution to that problem, as these illustrations from one of their patents show:
