My Prediction:
Tablet device with a set of Apple applications that will WOW us. Such as: Advanced "paint-like" app (easy to use Photoshop), redesigned iLife that is made for touch screens, iWork for touch screens (already rumored), iPod functionality (but even cooler than the iPhone), will run App store, and a 3D desktop! Apple likes to go big and this tablet will be no exception. This may be the beginning of the end of traditional computers as we know them.

What are rumors worth when they're constant and plenty, but they turn out nearly completely wrong. The rumors have been that the tablet will probably be for book reading and newsprint, and general web browsing, but obviously it's something for making splatter paint pictures. No mess. Thanks Apple.

My take:

1) the tablet gets announced (duh), along with iPhone OS 4.0
2) the 'latest creation' text and artistic slant of the invite hints towards the ability to create content, not just consume it - which will be tied to announcing a touch/tablet update to the iLife suite (and best case, iWork as well)
3) part of the updated iLife suite will include a touch-based drawing/paint/sketch/image app (almost like an Apple-branded mini-Photoshop)

An automatic Jackson Pollock painting machine? Sweeeeeet!

Latest = Slate

Idk if someone other notes that but...

"Come and see our LATESt creation"

LATESt = SLATE

With such a colorful invitation it Looks like they will be launching a PAINT program along side their tablet. Finally, we can draw and paste with the MS painters.:D

It had better be

At this point at Apple HQ, two things may be happening:

A) Steve is happy the tablet he's announcing is gaining so much hype, or...

B) Steve is worried the new iPod he's announcing won't match expectations.

I am very excited about the tablet, but I really just want a new Apple TV. The current model is over 3 years old.

On the 27th MacRumors will be shut down due to the intense war between users on this site that love the tablet and users who will rip it apart. Shipping threads will be created along with bashing threads. Someone will say "I have my credit card ready" while others will say "my (insert 6 year old product here) can do that for half the price and the tablet can't." I will enjoy watching the aftermath.

I did. Between the solid wall of text, the pale blue font, and the countless spelling and grammatical errors it crossed the threshold where I just couldn't stand it.

You are not alone, it made my head pound just looking at it. Gave up trying to read it after two lines.

I wish/hope ...we can but dream :confused:

For anyone that actually is reading posts here, Kotaku received an invite from Apple which is surprising given the site's exclusive focus on video gaming.

Why is it labeled as an "creative" event when all signs point to the tablet being a media consumption device?

Probably because very few of the signs point to it being a media consumption device. While the iPod Touch is such a device, there have been no real discussion on an Apple Tablet being nothing but an enlarged Touch. In fact, if it were such, we would have probably seen it already released as an iPod SuperTouch, or something like that.

Almost all of the patents that have hinted at this device and implied creativity and functional use, not merely media. That doesn't mean that it can't do media, but that its primary function is expected to go beyond mere media. On the other hand, 95% of the anti-Apple Zealots have stated with absolute conviction that the new device will be "just another ebook reader."

mmm... Maybe we should let Steve Jobs name it.

SlateMan?
TabletMan?
NewtonMan?
CanvasMan?
PalletMan? (gotta say that one sounds heavy)
TabMan?
TouchMan?

Can we commission Plasticman to do the power-on sound?

Ha ha. TouchMan :D

I don't believe that's quite correct actually, I think there was a menu update not so long ago.

The software has consistently been updated, but the hardware remains unchanged since Jobs introduced it in the fall of 2006 (minus a slightly bigger hard drive).
