Oh lawd say it ain't so!
The competition should be embarrassed cause they knew something was up. They all have corporate spies. How you think coke and pepsi can turn out an identical product just days after one announces some new flavor and or bottle design?
Get ready for the 2nd coming of christ!!!!! Yeeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

For a company that provides itself on minimal design that sure is one fugly invitation. The graphic intern probably did that...

If there is a "tablet" that's around 10-12" with respectable pen input and software to back it up as a sketchbook all under $1000 (preferably half that) then I would think about getting said device as a sketchbook. Otherwise I'll save up for a Cintiq.

Should be interesting nonetheless.

anyone want to guess the significance of that 1940's-diner commercial Apple filmed back in October?

I will..

Visualize. A commercial in black and white.

A 1940's style diner. Everybody and everything is in black and white.

A person walks in with the ******* and sits down. It's in color. The person starts to read the New York Times. In full color.

Everybody in the diner gathers around to look at it.

Great creativity. Taught in Creative Art 201.

And that's about when the first color TV's came out. Late 40's to early 50's.

I think that it will be a totally new concept...

You know how Apple has those Apple II desktops but they are text based and hard to use? Well I think they are going to introduce the idea of computing by manipulating objects on a screen with a separate device attached to the computer. Programs will be represented by little pictures on the screen. You also will be able to see the formatting of a document before you print it.

It will not be called "iSlate". That's a horrible name. It will be called Macbook Touch.

Fits right into the current lineup.
Macbook
Macbook air
Macbook Touch
Macbook Pro

Now the downside: It's going to cost around $2,099. That's just something that Apple does. Have you noticed the LACK of information/rumors about price? It's not in Apple's nature to release a brilliant new must have product, and then turn around and price it at something that you can actually afford. IE: The first iPhone, the Macbook air, etc.

We will all be amazed by this thing, and we' will all be shocked at the high price. Has that ever NOT happened with any brand new Apple "creation"?

You're looking at the wrong product lineup. If it had mac in the name, you would probably be in the correct ballpark for the price. It won't be running traditional OSX though and thus will not have mac in the name... That concept (desktop OS on a tablet) as tried and failed so many times Apple is not likely to follow in that path. This will likely have an "i" or an "Apple" in the name. It would fit the iPod/iPhone product line or possibly the Apple TV product line better than the mac line.

The invitation graphic provides reliable clues that the product will have bright colors but be a complete mess.

My first thought was "Apples and Oranges". The big orange blob behind the Apple logo looks a lot like an orange. I have no clue what all the graffiti is about though.

Creativity? Yes. Relevance? None.

If the point is to make the device look futuristic, why would it be set in the 1940's?

Definitely gonna buy one:D

BTW I hope at the beginning of his presentation, Steve introduces new i5 MBP with all black unibody design. (If he does, I need to break into my big *ss piggy bank;))

that would be the most amazing thing ever! been waiting til now to finally upgrade my first gen blackbook

Our latest creation, iLife 2010!!! Woot!

Ha. One more thing, new i7 17" MBP. Lol.

I wouldn't put it past them...

I actually have work then - as a network admin. Included in my work is sitting in an office waiting for people with problems, or for something to internally implode.

I WILL SO BE WATCHING :D

Steve had better present. I expect child like wonder, dammit! I miss dear leader, the RDF, and all that jazz. For the love of all that is sane, just less Schiller.

The Spray paint is a reference to Palms graffiti handwriting recognition.

Something along these lines actually isn't a bad idea. If you think of the "black and white" part being a reference to the current e-readers use of e-ink displays (black and white only, basically), then a commercial along these lines could be showcasing the Tablet's ability to utilize full color in an e-reader type device (not saying that the Apple Tablet is only going to be an e-reader, just saying that this commercial could be focusing on that particular feature of it).
To address the poster asking why it would be set in the '40's, this could again be referencing how "primitive" and "antiquated" black and white only e-readers seem to Apple, and that their Tablet "brings you into the future" with full color, video, multimedia, etc e-reader content.

What if the graffiti in the invitation is a thinly veiled reference to the 'Graffiti' hand writing recognition from the Palms of not so long ago.

Wouldn't that fit the new tablet device just nicely?

That scenario just gave me chills. Outstanding.

YAY! :D

P.S. Am I the only one that thinks that splattered paint invite is ugly and amateur? It looks like it was made in Microsoft Paint or something!
