Or they have 5 items they are releasing

That would be nice :)

- New iPhone
- New iPod Touch
- New iMac
- New Mac Mini
- Maybe iPad mini?

The fact that the new iPhone will come with iOS 6 makes me think they should not name it iPhone 5. Especially because there have been 5 models of iPhone already, this would be the 6th one.

If you stop counting you will get it.
This is completely my point:

The people who count this stuff do not matter. Apple wants to sell hundreds of millions of these things, the thousand or so people who care about generation numbers do not matter.

Just a thought (shoot it down if you like :p), maybe the 5 is to throw people off. Maybe there will be 5 new products, one of them being called 'The New iPhone'. Seems odd that the iPad is dropping the number while the phone isnt. That said, it could be that the iPad dropped it so we have 'iPad' and 'iPad Mini'. Heck the iPod Touch may be rebranded as the 'iPad Nano' :p

I think they renamed the iPad line to more closely associate with the MacBooks. Mini (Air) and Retina (Pro/Retina). There will most likely always be at least 3 iPhones sold in the marketplace so it makes no sense to drop the differentiator.

It will be called iPhone 5 because the VAST majority of customers have no idea how many there have been, or care. They simply know that iPhone 4S was the last iPhone, and thus marketing-wise the iPhone 5 makes FAR more sense than iPhone 6.

It's obvious what's going on here: The 5 is being left in the shadow of 12 - September 12, where they will skip the iPhone 5 and announce the iPhone 6. Eat my dust "5"!

12 - 5 = 7, the iPhone 7, you will see.

As someone who stood in line on June 29, 2007 to buy the first iPhone, and has had several since, I just don't feel the dazzle any more with these expected, regular releases. I don't really care about a taller form factor. I don't really care about hidden screws or a different processor. I don't really care about a more stable operating system.

What I do care about - what I do want - is Apple to surprise us again. I want Apple to take a big ass risk with something, anything. I hope (as I believe it's been rumored) that they will push out something that frees Airplay and mirroring from having to be on an existing network. Just as they changed their name from Apple Computers to Apple when they took the iPhone/AppleTV/iPod Hifi leap, I'd love to see them go, at least in small part, in a direction we didn't see coming. Why let other companies figure out home automation? Apple could do that better than anyone. Get crazy and build a simple, Apple-esque stereo amp.

Just do something other than incremental, expected updates, else in a few years they'll just be another Microsoft with an annual Windows update.

The shadow is clearily a 5.

you are wrong ;)

They didnt count the 3GS, its just a Speed version of the 3G iPhone. The iPhone 4 is just coincidence. If you stop counting you will get it.

The 3GS was the third model of the iPhone though... The iPhone 3G called 3G to make sure everyone knew they updated it for the 3G networks.

So why not iPhone LTE?

3G networks weren't available everywhere when the iPhone 3G came out

Right then supergeeks - please explain in your nasal tone how Apple are wrong and that this should be a "6" again? Do you now realise Apple doesn't revolve around nerd-dom but instead caters to the general public.

This really cheered me up after all the iPhone 6 turds getting so agro with everyone. :)

Easy, cause the new iPhone is still the 6 generation iPhone. so when you hear a person say The iPhone 6 is cause its generation 6 and they don't care what Apple calls it.

Ha! I was right, feels good to know that it will be the iphone 5, after arguing with about 100 people that it was not going to be the iphone 6

I am incredibly stoked for the next iphone!

No surprise, as The iPhone 5 was named by my source

(note that the brushed metal, actually its just a SHELL, the real product is behind, hides some bisel)

Yeah the real product is behind... It's called the iPhone 4. I own one of those back plates as well. Bought if off eBay for $3.

I'M SO EXCITED! I'm not eligible for upgrade from the 4S, but I can't wait to see what this will be like!

The 6th iPhone running iOS 6 called iPhone 5??!!

Guess I'll have to eat my words then....

i don't feel like searching to find out why, so can someone fill me in on why people were saying it would be "6" prior to today?

that's about the dumbest thing i've heard!
