so its iphone 5, if we see the shadow.:D

Otherwise, it's 6 more weeks of summer before we get the new iPhone!

They didn't leave a lot of room for speculation this time around. Makes me glad I won't be seeing all the insane threads trying to decipher the invite.

People are "seeing" the new iPhone in the mini-shadow between the 1 and 2 (or the top of the "5"). Maybe people will try to find "NFC" or some hieroglyphics buried within it over the next 8 days.

I'M SO EXCITED! I'm not eligible for upgrade from the 4S, but I can't wait to see what this will be like!

The 6th iPhone running iOS 6 called iPhone 5??!!

Guess I'll have to eat my words then....

Don't bow down to the herb just yet Lol. The iPhone is still the 6th Generation, just like the previous version had different numbers, this will still be the 6th.

Remember all they do is a marketing technic to keep us talking about it Lol

The 6th generation of the iPhone is called iPhone 5 and it is running the 6th revision os iOS called iOS 6...right.

Whatever.

This type of thinking makes me laugh. I guess since my iMac is not called the "iMac Mountain Lion" I can't upgrade to the latest OS, right?

The fact that the new iPhone will come with iOS 6 makes me think they should not name it iPhone 5. Especially because there have been 5 models of iPhone already, this would be the 6th one.

Do they call their new MacBook Airs the "MacBook Air 10.8"?

What is the frickin' point of having an event when everyone and their goldfish already knows what this new phone is going to look like? This has to be one of Apple's worst kept secrets ever.

Essentially what I mean. The point is, the iPhone is the only Apple device with multiple versions being sold and marketed at the same time with no other distinguishable differentiator (i.e. the thinness and size of the Air and iPad mini). That's why they'll keep the numbers.

Yeah, I think also because their marketing team is smart enough to know that, you simply cannot drop numeric numbering from a phone, it is the largest selling device, and people want to see that new number, like they see from 'Galaxy S3'.

you know who is at fault for all this confusion? iPhone 3G. Because Apple named the "2nd version" of the iPhone this name, this screwed up future names of the iPhone. The reason I cannot stand it being called the iPhone 5 is because it is not even the 5th design change. It is technically going to be the 4th different looking iPhone.

That is not a shadow. It's a '5' drawn on artwork along with the '12'. It's only your perception of it being a shadow. It's not a shadow, its a '5'.

you are right, there is no evident light source emitting light particles for the 12 to block and therefore create shadows on a non-existing plane.

totally spot on!

Until two years from now, when the iPhone 6 will be coming out. They will say its gonna be an iPhone 8

Nokia had this thing about avoiding the number 4 because it's bad luck in China. That's why they had an N91, N92, N93, N95, N96, and N97, but no N94.

I wonder what Apple (and others) will do when we get to 13?

The guy who said he would not buy one now was full of it. The person who said they would buy one now, also full of it. No one is going to make a decision based on it being alled the iPhone 5 or 6.

The MEDIA will report it differently, irregardless of whether the new phone has holograms or lasers, makes free beer or is able to summon promiscuous mermaids.

If it's called something like an iPhone 4GS, the MEDIA will say 'Apple failed to deliver the much anticipated iPhone 5'. If it's called the iPhone 5, the MEDIA will say, 'Apple successfully delivers the new iPhone 5'.

A name does mean a lot. And people will line up more quickly for something like an 'iPhone 5' because it would SEEM newer and more advanced than an 'iPhone 4GS' even if it had all the same features.

The shadow is actually a stylized "S" - - the new device shall be known as the iPhone 4 Double S !!!

So the 7th generation iPhone I'll be upgrading to (perhaps with an A7) next year with iOS 7 will probably be called the iPhone 5S?

So is this to suggest that 12's will begin to cast "5" shadows? Nice try Apple, but I'm not believing it.
