iPhone 5......Come at me bro. IM READY FOR YOU

If Apple released phones in different colors...that'd be crazy. I'd go wild. Only Nokia seems willing to take chances with these.

You...aren't REALLY serious, are you???

Okay, fun is fun, but there isn't really anyone seriously saying that the next iPhone should be named anything other than iPhone5 is there? I mean, seriously; it's about pattern recognition, marketing, and such...

Of course, if they called it the "iPhone Panther" that would be pretty cool! ;)

I would love it if all these leaked parts were misleads (but don't expect such).

It would be hilarious and make for a far more interesting announcement than just making official a device where enough parts have been leaked that you could practically assemble a working example, and where there seems to be precious few opportunities for surprises.

And restore my faith in Apple's fabled veil of secrecy that seems to have slipped this time around.

That's an interesting thought!

Was anyone confused when the 3rd phone (in the above scenario) was called the iPhone 4? I'm sure one or two.

My first iPhone was the 3gs. Then I got the 4th and 5th iPhones too. The 5th (4s) had enough features and I wanted 64GB so I did the upgrade. I think I'll be skipping this year...

Gary

It wasn't really ever the 1st/2nd/3rd phone, for all most people knew it was the 10th phone, but it was available and everyone was raving about it.

No-one was really counting iPhone revisions, it's the same reason people go into 2 year contracts even up to a week before the latest iPhone comes out, they don't count anything.

Apple Released the 3G named as such because it could do 3G, but hey, so could all the phones, and for some time, then they released the "Faster 3G" that looked the same. The next one looked different though, and for all accounts it looks like they decided to keep the number thing going so 3+1 = 4, hey we have the iPhone 4, the Faster iPhone 4, and now it's going to look different again so let's go 4+1, iPhone 5, because after shipping hundreds of millions of units, people are kind of getting to know their model numbers.

The next one will either be iPhone 4G or iPhone 5. I have my money on 5.

Can we watch this event via internet. I need to watch this event.

It's very rare that Apple broadcasts these events live. Unless you see an announcement on the front of this site, assume it is not broadcast live.

If you want to watch it later, Apple usually publishes a recording of the event a few hours after it has completed. Again, this site will publish a link, usually on their front page.

It's almost unbelievable that even after the Apple invitation with the big 5 on it people still question the name iPhone 5.

Apple has to call it iPhone 5 instead of just iPhone because otherwise they would have to call next year's iPhone an iPhone S which everyone understands (or at least should understand) would not make any sense at all given the history of iPhone model names. And notice that with iPads there are no S models so there's no such naming issues.

or maybe they'll just keep calling it the iPhone as they may with the iPad. I sure as hell don't want to be telling my friends I have the iPhone 14S years down the road.

I think you're applying too much "logic" for the average high street consumer, they won't know/care what literal model iteration they're holding (and Apple doesn't want/need them to).

All Apple need you to know (so you can tell others and do their marketing for them), is that it's the latest iPhone.

Mathematical versions are not important to Apple, it just comes down to keeping it simple for their customers.

Here's something I posted earlier:

Last I checked when BMW releases a new 3 series, it isn't called a 4 series or 5 series. It's usually 3xx whereas the xx may change, if at all. Cars are designated by the model year and model of make.

Apple can call it the iPhone to a consumer. The backend can designate what year it was made. Eg. Mid-2010 MacBook Pro. In the end the consumer knows they have a MacBook Pro.

Does anybody think there is a chance that the 5 on the invitation could be five new products?

iPhone(5)

iPad mini

Macbook Pro 13 retina

iMacs

iPods (nano and touch)

Just a thought.

I just laugh at the "Iphone 6" Trolls because technically it would be the 7th iteration of the Iphone, because you had the Iphone then Iphone 2 then Iphone 3 then 3GS then 4 then 4S and now "5" so technically it would be the 7th iteration but if they want to call it the "5" then it's cool with me, they could call it the iPhone 3.14159265359 and I would still buy it because it's gonna rock lol

LOL, while I agree with you, your counting is off. The iPhone 3G was the second iPhone. There was no iPhone 2.

Just a thought.

Do you count iOS as a product?
Either way it's a release that should be included.

I'd say
1) The New iPod
2) The New iPod Nano
1) iOS 6
2) The New iPhone
3) The New iPhone Nano

Then at the end Tim start his own tradition of
"Oh... While your here"
- iPad Nano
