I know this was just a joke, but I think the background actually does mean something. If you go back, the iPad invitation was also paint splatters, so that's probably the reason for that.

Look at how the colors are larger apples. And they keep getting smaller until the one shown in the front. Meaning, these apple products keep getting smaller. iPad mini, smaller retina MacBook, maybe smaller Mac mini Etc.

Very interested in the price points. How to price it competitively against the 7" tablets yet still leave a reason for purchasing an iPod Touch?

iPod Touch and iPad Mini are VASTLY different devices, I can't believe people compare them. Let's see, iPod Touch: fits in your pocket, extremely mobile, no cellular connectivity. iPad Mini: fits in Cyclops's pocket, less mobile, cellular connectivity. A customer isn't going to go out and buy an iPad Mini when they are looking for the best possible pocket MP3 player, just as a customer looking for an incredible media consumption device isn't going to buy an iPod Touch, as reading and watching video will be much better on the bigger screen. Wake up people.

I would be very surprised if Apple introduced a new full sized iPad, with the exception of maybe new LTE versions. Unless they're moving away from their annual update cycle or do them bi-annually.

Else my 'new' iPad will become the not-so-new iPad after 7 months!

The new new iPad will be re-leased in the Spring like it always is.

These 7-8" tablets are aimed at price conscious consumers who just want a small tablet to surf the internet, read books, and play occasional games. They don't need the internal specs of the iPad 3. I expect iPad 2 like specs in the smaller format. $250 would be nice, but I expect a $299 starting point. That would make the iPad line pricing:

iPad mini: $299
iPad 2: $399
iPad 3: $499

Anything less would be a nice surprise. Anything more wouldn't be competitive with the Kindle Fire or Nexus 7. A $100 premium would already be stretching it.

I really hope that they do not update the iPad 3 already. It hasn't even been out for close to a year yet...

It's actually the old Apple colours, in exact location. So, you're just reading into it too much, as usual. :p

Why are people saying the iPad Mini won't have a Retina screen? I don't see how they could possibly NOT include it. It's standard on iOS products now.

Hah! been lurking for awhile now (since Feb). I have waited to buy my first mac and it looks like it finally might happen soon.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new PC several times. Hope the wait was worth it.

Exactly. iPads are always released in the Spring. iPhones are aways released in Summer. Always.

These things never change. You can count on it. It's as predictable as Apple's naming conventions.

"We've got"? Ugh, it should be "We have".

I don't really think Apple cares about proper grammar.

If it doesn't have Retina it will be because it's priced at $249 to directly compete with Nexus 7 and Kindle 7. That's why some are saying no Retina.

It can easily start at $249 as I said last week, 8GB Wifi only iPad Mini starting at $249. The iPod and iPad are two different products, they don't compete. Also the 5th gen iPod starts at 32GB whereas the iPad would be $50 less, and have 8GB.

Lose the got. We have a little more to show you. We've got is an abbreviation of we have got, which is poor english at best.

We've got is proper. The other proper way to say it would be 'We have a litte more to show you. However, 'We've got a little more to show you.' is correct. You just wouldn't say 'We have got', ignore the fact that 'We've' = We have.

I've been on the fence about the iPad mini. Thought I'd save some cash and give the inexpensive Kindle Paperwhite a go. I have a Kindle 3G/keyboard, and NEVER USE IT because I just can't see the d*** thing. It's dark gray text on not-so-dark background.

The Paperwhite gets announced, more contrast, higher resolution, lit screen, cheap $119. I placed my order on the 1st, been listed as "not shipped yet" since.

Saw the Apple invite, Mini iPad a reality? Hmmm. Read reviews on Amazon for the paperwhite. LOTS of unhappy people. All complaints revolve around the screen. Google. Images. CRAP!

What Amazon Promised vs. What Amazon Delivered pics attached.

Cancelled my order!!!! Bring on the Mini iPad!!!
