I have to admit the copy makes me nervous. A "LITTLE" more speaks directly to the iPad mini, a smaller Mac mini and a 13 inch Retina. It doesn't really correlate to a new iMac. (i know... i'm reading too much into it)

Well, if the rumors of a thinner redesigned iMac are true.....it woudl fit perfectly with the 'little' theme....

Thinner iMac
Smaller Mac Mini
iPad mini...

What if this is the announcement for the iTV and all the leaks sent out were faked by Apple.. Ultimate troll

I've been on the fence about the iPad mini. Thought I'd save some cash and give the inexpensive Kindle Paperwhite a go. I have a Kindle 3G/keyboard, and NEVER USE IT because I just can't see the d*** thing. It's dark gray text on not-so-dark background.

The Paperwhite gets announced, more contrast, higher resolution, lit screen, cheap $119. I placed my order on the 1st, been listed as "not shipped yet" since.

Saw the Apple invite, Mini iPad a reality? Hmmm. Read reviews on Amazon for the paperwhite. LOTS of unhappy people. All complaints revolve around the screen. Google. Images. CRAP!

What Amazon Promised vs. What Amazon Delivered pics attached.

Cancelled my order!!!! Bring on the Mini iPad!!!

I think if your primary goal is reading - the $69 to $119 kindle black and white displays are a pretty sweet approach. I have a kindle ink type tablet, and a glossy tablet. ( ipad2) As much as I'd like to have one, I never use them for the same task...

Steve didn't like 7 inch tablets. The new Apple does.

At the time, and it wasn't just Steve, it was Apple. Regardless, though, today is a new day, and the tablet market isn't as nascent as it was then in every sense. We've learned so much about tablets, both consumers and manufacturers, and technology has advanced as well.

Today isn't yesterday, let's not get hung up on comments made in the past in a different world.

And let's also remember, you can get anyone to say anything when you dangle money in front of them. When did a corporation ever tell the truth for the mere reason it was the truth?

These 7-8" tablets are aimed at price conscious consumers who just want a small tablet to surf the internet, read books, and play occasional games. They don't need the internal specs of the iPad 3. I expect iPad 2 like specs in the smaller format. $250 would be nice, but I expect a $299 starting point. That would make the iPad line pricing:

iPad mini: $299
iPad 2: $399
iPad 3: $499

If it has iPad 2 like specs why would Apple continue the iPad 2? The primary reason the iPad 2 is in the line up is because Apple needed a lower priced iPad to be competitive. The iPad mini is designed from the outset to being a lower priced iPad. Smaller screen , smaller case , etc. all lead to lower component costs and hence lower price.

The only reason the iPad 2 is cheaper is because it is almost a 2 year old design. It is "last year's iPad". Next year what would Apple do? Continue to sell "last year's iPad"?

There is a decent chance that as the iPad mini is rolled out worldwide that the iPad 2 will be taken off the product stores in those countries. Some iPad2 will get sold but the product will start to unwind for the iPad mini. By the end of year it would just be iPad (2013 edition) and iPad mini (2013 edition ).

iPad mini gets the $299-499 price range and the iPad gets the $499-899 price range.

Anything more wouldn't be competitive with the Kindle Fire or Nexus 7. A $100 premium would already be stretching it.

IMHO, Apple isn't really going at the 7" models. It is the 8.9-9.1 (Kindle , Nook HD+ ) models that are the bigger issue for the mini. The "sold at cost , 7 inch " market Apple isn't going to try to compete with at all. It is questionable that market will even last for an extended period of time. Nor it is the kind of pissing match that Apple enters (e.g., the netbook craze a couple of years back. Apple answered that with something different, but with higher margins; the iPad. ).

Not sure I follow your logic. Surface RT tablet is $499, 10.6". Same price as entry level iPad but with 2X storage. How do you get from "If 7" mini is too expensive I'll buy a 10.6" Surface." It seems to me either you want a 7" or you want a 10.x" and then go from there.

Looking at gifts for two kids.

One tablet to share or two iPad minis (reduce fighting).

I'd like to see some colors...

I am really impressed with the look of the new iPod Touch colors and would love to see them applied similarly to the iPad Mini's. But I need to see them at the sub-$300 level to bite...

At first I started reading into the colors. It seems like there are 7 colors representing the 7" iPad. But then I thought, it's the colors of the rainbow.. reading focused event.. Reading Rainbow perhaps?? That, or I'm just reading too much into it. :p

Back before the 5th Gen iPod launch, Steve was adamantly against video on an iPod but things change...

this invitation clearly (as with other invitations) has an "encoded" message. The original iPad event's invitation back in 2010 was of a white Apple logo with paint splatter and it read "Come see our latest creation." This invitation shows us the same white logo zoomed in with same style paint splatter and it reads "We've got a little more to show you." 2 messages: It has something to do with an iPad. And, it the word little his a hint.

I know most of you probably already got this but I just find it awesome how Apple does these invites. And if you didn't get it, I hope I helped.

hoping for the Mac portion of this to be true

While I am not in the market for a Mac Mini or iMac now, I am hoping these are unveiled at next Tuesday's event. Despite all the mobile wonders, I want to see a variety of Macs represented too.

Let the drooling commence. :D

Seriously? To say that a 7.85" tablet is outside the 7" market is ridiculous.
