Do you honestly believe that once gay marriage is allowed everywhere, we are all going to run to the Churches that have been actively trying to withhold our rights and force them to marry us?

The churches haven't been withholding your rights, the government has been. The government isn't forcing the churches to do anything, but I agree with you nonetheless.

So does the government owe each of your 1000 wives your social security payments when you die?

If so, who pays for that?

Same question for life insurance. Ditto for health insurance, and dependents claims and many, many other legal and civil issues in our society.

Not as simple as many would like to think.

But you do support their right to marry, right?

Till the Constitution is changed we all have freedom of religion. Not freedom from religion.

Did you skip over the part that says "The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."

in other words, you don't have to be religious to be a member of the government. This is protection FROM religion.

Let me get this straight.

Its wonderful and praiseworthy when Apple releases a statement in support of gay rights, but when Chik-Fil-A releases a statement supporting marriage between a man and a woman they are picketed and boycotted.

Before I get quoted and bashed, I believe that "rights" should not be associated to the institution of marriage in the first place.

Just quoting and not bashing, but FYI, Chik-Fil-A also received a fair amount of praise and support based on their stance - it just depends on which circles you run in. Likewise, I expect there will be those that stop buying, or only reluctantly buy Apple products because of their statement today.

As an AAPL shareholder, I'm more than willing to take the chance of lost bigot business in trade for public support of the right cause. As others have already said, Team Hate is losing. It's a good thing. Go Apple Go.

Draw a line down the middle of a sheet of paper. Label the left side, why I hate gays and label the right side, why I loves my Apple products. State your reasons and report back soon.

I don't "hate gays." I know that they honestly feel like they love each other. The problem is that I firmly believe that this has come about because of our warped society. In my opinion, marriage is not marriage unless it is between one man and one women.

You have to love American Freedom lol, 5 individuals in black robes just overruled the majority of California voters.

It's a sad day when SCOTUS is debating something as useless as gay marriage. Both sides should just ****.

Americans can be so prudish and hypocritical at times!

Is this really such a big deal in the states? Canada has had gay marriage for a decade now!

I am concerned now that the special secret hidden light waves
that convert people to turn gay will be used by apple in their products
I was already suspicious with the new icons in ios7 having a pastel
look to them. When my wife bought me a pink iPad cover I knew
she was in on it too!! We better think seriously about outlawing all gay marriage and activities before its too late and we all turn gay!

aThe thing is, it really isn't a political issue, but rather a scientific one (or at least I think it should be).

The science shows us that homosexuality is something natural that happens all over in nature. Furthermore the research shows that it's something that happens in people's brains and is there ”from the start”: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7456588.stm

If people were to be rational they should follow what nature and the scientific findings tells us, and – until the findings are possibly disproven - bend their opinions towards that.

I'm sorry, but not everything in this world is about opinion. Two examples of things that are objectively wrong are racism and homophobia. An example of something that is objectively true is gravity. ;)

Aside from all this – even if it wasn't a scientific issue – even if some people just want to be gay, what's the problem? It's a bit like being against people who don't share the same taste in music as you do. Makes no sense.

And no one on these forums should ever try to put you down for not supporting gay rights.

But at the same time, we have to understand that our personal feelings and understandings shouldn't weight heavily against another group of people.

Americans can be so prudish and hypocritical at times!

And Canadians can be so uppity and smug, much like your distant cousins.

Funny thing is I rarely if ever post on my political viewpoint. (Most of my recent posts here are about T-mobile...I don't think they're a religion or political party). But today the world changed for me. Even though my State recently legalized same sex marriage, and even though my partner of 23 years and I already went and got a marriage license on the first day they were being issued, I still felt ambivalent about the prospect of getting married since it would not be a "real" marriage in the federal government's eyes and would most likely just open up a world of hurt in tax and financial planning for us. But now we can look forward to our marriage finally being fully equal. It's a great day.

As a customer since my first Mac in the summer of 1987 while in my freshman year of college, to the Mac SE, to the si, to a break of several years before the comeback of Apple with the iPod (shuffles, mini, 3 nanos, 2 touches), iPhones 4 & 5, iPad, iPad 2 and iPad mini, and on my 3rd Mac mini, I think I also qualify as an owner of Apple products.

And I'm happy to see Apple's support on this issue.

just to clarify... my comment was not against gays. Im sure lots of gays love apple products.

My comments are about the same group that jump on every liberal agenda bandwagon here. From gay rights to gun control to abortion, you will see the exact same people. A thread about someones iphone bricked or weak wifi signal from their new airport, you wont hear so much of peep from them.

I honestly wonder where some of them have the time? They will literally post 24/7, but of course only in the political section. They cant possibly have a job, can they? Is someone paying them to post?

I am all for tolerance and openness and non-discrimination.....

*BUT* with the string of foul ups and the massively plunging stock price, Tim Cook should learn to keep his mouth shut and focus on making Apple INNOVATE.

Sorry, putting up silly TV ads claiming that Apple is innovating, appearing on shows with analysts to defend the iPhone 5's screen size, and issuing press statements supporting gay rights -- are simply not what the CEO of a company like Apple -- being the industry leader -- should be doing.

Apple's innovation drive has all but stopped since Jobs passing.

If Tim Cook remains clueless for another year or so -- he will be booted out by the shareholders (I am one of them) -- mark my words.

Yesterday, 5 individuals in black robes made it more difficult for minorities to vote by overriding an act of congress.

It's a sad day when SCOTUS takes away the rights of minorities.
