...

I like the idea of the team being locked into a room until it's fixed.

Not sure it's entirely legal, but at least iOS 6 Maps won't be trending for all the wrong reasons.

I have no doubt they'll clear up most of the issues within the next week or so. And we'll be on 6.0.1

Have you seen the difference in detail from apple maps to google maps. It took Google years to get where they are now. Its no quick fix.

I sure hope that during this lockdown they have access to water fountains and meal vouchers. ;)

Aye, they better had, or Maps will be on strike!

On a serious note, I suppose it would be asking a bit much to expect one team of devs to debug the whole world's map, bit of crowd sourcing required. But to that end, perhaps it should have a "beta" sticker on it, and have a nice obvious button to report bugs.

Love Apple but this yearly "200 new features" is getting silly now same with osx i never see 200 changes or even use them.

Running a massively successful business is hard.
I think they know what they're doing, even if the benevolent overlord isn't there to make sure things are closer to perfection before being released and criticized anyway.

Worst part is a bad Apple built in maps app puts less pressure on google to get a google maps app out for iOS. Them holding out till after the first craze of iPhone 5 buyers helps them and their hardware makers push android.

"Lock down"?

That's pretty harsh; wonder what its like at Apple to be in "lock down' mode.

I would equate it to solitary at a maximum security prison.

At least when Steve was alive. I think Tim is a softie. He might let them use the restroom.

My friend was an intern at apple and she said leading up to the launch of ML that developers would get a call in the middle of the night saying they found a bug and it needs to be fixed asap.

Don't feel too bad for them. I'm sure there's a nice bonus for them, when it's all said and done.

Yes. Keeping their jobs.

I don't think Apple is the type of culture that rewards folks for doing their jobs.

I understand that managers are under time constraints and sometimes executive decision says to release an app anyway and fix it later, so i would try to reward my team if they worked round the clock to fix issues.

But I don't think that's how Apple operates.

I think it is a joke on the fact that they knew from well before the release that the Apple Maps was crap. Hell the people who had the beta have been saying the maps have been crap from day one.

I also believe I said from way back then that it was going to be crap based on the first beta and people screamed oh it is a beta.....

hope they brought supplies, might be a while.

This puts MORE pressure on Google. When you increase the competitiveness in an ecosystem like this, it drives innovation.

...Later in his piece, AllThingsD writer John Paczkowski says the developer team assigned to the Maps app is "under lockdown" working to fix the app...

Under lockdown? Isn't this the problem? They need to get their ***** down to the nearest Google Street View van dealership PRONTO!!!

Whew!! It's going to take a village to get this one right. All I can say is GOOD LUCK APPLE!!! we know you can make it right.
