Sprint will have the same inferior service as Verizon. Both providers have CDMA. Both suffer from:

  • Slow speeds (Apple keeps rolling out faster and faster GSM speeds leaving Sprint and Verizon behind.)
  • Lack of data/voice multitasking. Your smartphone is no longer very smart.
  • A limited global footprint. Buy a second iPhone from AT&T for your next trip.
  • Primitive conferance call ability (limited # of users and inability to selectively drop a single caller)

Yeah, but for $50/month including unlimited data I'll take iPhone on Sprint with above "limitations" any day. Just sayin'

If Sprint keeps its prices the same, this should help all of us. Bringing prices down on ATT and Verizon. Come on Sprint Iphone. :)

i agree! Would jump right on that. I can already picture the banner of the phone saying "Virgin-US". Problem is that you would have to buy the phone outright for $700. At that point, I'd just stick with AT&T.

I doubt it since they don't have nationwide service. I'm sure if Apple is expanding which network the iPhone works on, then they'd be more focused on something else.

And isn't Metro-PCS the 5th largest?

Doh your right it is...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Cellular is the 6th
Metro PCS is the 5th

I know you are being sarcastic here, but it would not surprise me if Verizon goes after Sprint. I think they will wait to see how the AT&T-T-Mobile merger goes and if the FCC and DOJ stamps off on it I expect to see Verizon make an attempt to buy Sprint.

I think the possibility of having 2 nationwide carriers (Verizon and AT&T) is very possible in the future.

I agree, I think Verizon will go after Sprint in the near future. It makes perfect sense as they are both CDMA.

This just sounds perfect. I would simply LOVE to have an iPhone on a carrier that doesn't rape my wallet . . . AND one that hopefully will still provide the same equipment protection that they do with Android phones.

BUT!

The iPhone 5 NEEDS a larger screen. Forget about making the phone bigger if you can Apple, don't care how you handle the antennae or the home button . . . . just make that tiny screen 4" or larger.

Not 3.7 or 3.8

4 or larger.

lol unless it comes to Sprint before the 23rd of this month, it won't stop me from going to Verizon for the iPhone 4.

Sprint, you have a week to keep me as a customer. :D

From Kansas to Santa Clara

Have you noticed? The location has already changed.... :D

I personally think 3.8" is just fine because of the iPhone screen ratio. I have a 4" phone and surprisingly, when I put it against the 3.5" iPhone display the difference in the width of the displays is almost negligible. Look here: (found through Google)

The added height makes the 4" screen much taller but to me the width of the phone screen is much more important for usability, and the main reason why the Android keyboard on a 4" screen isn't any more usable than the iPhone keyboard; the keyboard size isn't really different. Also it makes the phone harder to use in the landscape mode as well. It might have more of the wow factor but unless you watch a lot of movies, the wide screen is more of a hindrance in my experience, and IMHO the iPhone will be just fine with a 3.7-3.8" screen.

I miss the service and speed I had with Sprint before I switched to ATT for the iPhone. Would love to switch back. In NYC, it can be unbearably slow to use 3G in some spots on ATT-- even impossible at times.

Overall, however, I really don't have many complaints with ATT. But I feel like my service was better with Sprint. Plus, this can't help but start a price war.

Well if the AT&T deals go through, I wonder if they will stall call it T-Mobile or will they merge them under the AT&T umbrella?

This is good, time to get the phone out on all the networks here in the states.

No. They'll change the name back to Cingular for a few years. (Cingular always was still really AT&T, and that name helped fool people into thinking it wasn't the same bloodsucking a holes of before.)

Seriously, I could see them coming up with a new name to improve brand image, and again going back to AT&T later on. Tata wireless would be a nice combo of names... also is slang for tits.

Sprint isn't soo bad, especially in Florida. Might just be your area.
Anyways, it would be pretty nice if all carriers offered the iPhone (as long as rates don't go up).

The service in Kansas City, WHERE THE HEADQUARTERS IS, is horrible. My first cell phone was on Sprint. Sucked then.

I then bought an EVO in 2010. Dropped calls like a mother. Returned the phone the same day and switched back to AT&T that night.

Thats crazy. I live in Overland Park, Kansas. Sprint service still sucks. I wouldn't buy an iphone on sprint even if it came out. I'm itching to move over to Verizon once I can !

Amen to that. You'd think the service here would be the best there is to offer. But no. Quite the opposite.
