It’s just confusing to you because you assumed I believe something that I don’t. Just because I support a person or country does not mean I agree with all of there actions. “You’re either for me or against me” is for the MAGA cult.

Go back to the start of our conversation. All I said was that @ClaraStahlbaum claim that pro-Israel groups supported Massie opponent was true.
There are positions that MAGA holds I support (deporting illegals chief among them) - but I don't support MAGA due to it being a walking scandal. I hold the opinion that MAGA is a cult. I most certainly don't support Israel, or pro-Israel groups. Pro-Israeli politicians and people generally seem to be over 65.

MAGA was a way to rally the American people into a mindset to reverse the years of incompetence by the democratic. It is not a cult.

It’s fashionable in antisemitic circles to NOT support Israel and / or pro-Israeli groups. But thankfully they are recognized for what they are.

MAGA is a cult, and its high priest is TACO.
But, now it had become MIGA -- Make Israel Great Again!
And, make the ordinary American poor again.

And, today had become a TACO Sunday -- a post (raving) 2 hours ago.

Not Maga but I would take them over what The Democratic Party has turned into any day of the week.
Pro Israeli people and politicians tend to be the ones with the ability for critical thinking and not Israel is bad because they perceive them to be whiter than 'Palestinians', even though Israel is majority non White.
Young folks have been brainwashed by the leftwing education they have been indoctrinated with.

The U.S. supporting our allies is what we do.
How many billions are we spending to protect Western Europe? The main difference is that Israel is always willing to fight, while Europe sits on it's rump and doesn't pull their weight.

I would argue the case is the exact opposite. Younger generations are seeing the wood through the trees, and it is the younger generations who won't be willing to die for a foreign country.

You can't just say that people are "brainwashed" because they hold views that oppose your own. The polls show that more and more people are against Israel.

The problem with this nonsense is the "left" isn't the strawmen and stereotypes you dismiss them as. The left is a broad coalition led be centrist majority.

I believe in science, democracy, civil rights, free speech, due process, religious liberty, equal opportunity, overturning Citizens United, and an end to gerrymandering. I’m against regressive taxation. I'm fiscally conservative. I'm against war crimes including torture and the disproportionate targeting of civilians. I'm for deporting people that are here illegally after due process. I'm for protecting dreamers and providing them a path to citizenship. I'm for immigration reform to provide a legal path to the migrant workforce that our economy needs. I'm for paying our debts even if that means increasing federal revenue through taxes instead of passing them down to future generations.

Does that make me a brainwashed leftist?

As opposed to the party that literally changed its entire platform to "whatever 45 thinks" despite the fact that he's a corrupt liar and fraud, likely rapist and pedophile, who started a stupid war, continually enacts inflationist policies, and cares more about building a ballroom then the well-being of the American people. He's betrayed every promise that MAGA has made. Heck, he even went full socialist taking public ownership of private industry. And dismisses anyone that doesn't agree with him as anti-American.

But, you know, you don't like that some leftists on twitter call people racists for reasons you don't like.

I know that in the past you and I had debates in other threads, however from what you are saying in this post I think you and I see eye to eye more than you may think - I don't see a lot here I really disagree with significantly, however where we disagree most would be taxes.

I think a large part of the left and right agree on a lot. But the megaphones created by the Citizens United decision and social media algorithms hammer away on wedge issues.

As far as taxes, how do we disagree? I don't believe that we should cut revenue until we gain control of our debts. I don't believe that we should cut revenue below spending, unless we are in a recession. I believe that some deficit spending is fine to spur all or parts of the economy.

Of my lefty positions...

The most unsustainable problem that this country has is that a larger and larger portion of our resources are going to fewer and fewer people.

And I don't believe that the healthcare industry responds to normal capitalist forces because there is no meaningful competition, so some sort of socialized healthcare system is necessary. It's stupid to continue paying so much more than the rest of the industrialized world.

I believe taxes should be reduced for the average person. Right now everything is going up, even taxes, and it is simply unsustainable. We should also quit spending so much on the military.

On this we are agreed. I can actually attest to this through personal experience, I am lucky I had insurance when I had several surgeries in the past year, otherwise I couldn't afford getting surgery.

The US is not in Europe to "protect" it but to make money, one way or another. If there is a skirmish, American forces will withdraw quickly — sometimes chaotically, as during the Afghanistan exit. They are unlikely to fight Russia (or others) directly, preferring to use proxies (as in Ukraine) or strike from a distance (as with Iran). And, when that fails, sue for a ceasefire — and do a TACO. And then the ranting on social media: "we have won, we have won."

Because the "peace" president needs a war or two to burnish his image — why should he care about ordinary Americans when he has billions?

I'm still looking for our disagreement on taxes. 😀

As I said, I'm against regressive taxation. Lotteries, property taxes, sales taxes, tariffs etc. That's where you'll make the most impact for the average person. Most of which have little impact on federal revenue.

Great, then we should pull all of our forces out of Western Europe and just keep them in Eastern Europe, which still has a spine.
Western Europe is just about gone anyway, defeated without a shot being fired. Suicidal empathy just hasn't worked out for them.

I agree with about 70% of this.
I would only agree to a permanent green card for any adult here illegally. but they should have been here at least 10 years with no crimes and a full time job for at least 5 years. No citizenship. Their kids, as long as they have no criminal record, could become citizens in 5 years.
Trump has made a lot of mistakes, including starting a war without finishing it, but he did a lot of good things like controlling the border, taking action against Universities for not doing anything about the rampant anti-semitism on campus, freed Venezuela from Maduro, convinced many manufacturers to open plants here.
He is exhausting, but compared to Traitor Joe he is still better. Unless he does something really stupid.
The Democratic Party has become completely unelectable.

You do realize what he posted is pretty much the Democratic Party platform right?

I’ve refrained from getting involved in this thread for a while now, but it really seems to me that you are following “news” sources that are not being truthful with their followers. Many conservative sources do this - they pick out one crazy thing some college student or back bench congressional candidate says or take a quote massively out of context or share a straight up fabricated picture then broadcast it far and wide as if it’s the Democratic orthodoxy and then attack that strawman as “the left.” They’re lying to you. (To be clear, there’s some of that on the left too, but significantly less of it.)

Just as one example, Western Europe isn’t “lost” and hasn’t been “taken over” - the only actual difference is it’s easier to find good ethnic food and you might see more brown people in some neighborhoods. But right wing sources will take a picture out of context or amplify some blatantly racist European’s completely inaccurate depiction of the situation and broadcast it as the truth. But if you talk to actual Europeans you’ll quickly discover the descriptions of unrecognizable Paris and Berlin and London are just made up.

I’d encourage you to take a look at other sources, even if you think they’re hopelessly liberal or biased or whatever. Not saying you have to stop following who you’re following, but as someone who does make a point to read/watch what both sides see, I suspect you’ll be surprised with what you find if you go into it with a little more suspicion of your current sources and a little more open mindedness of those you disagree with.

Democrats are campaigning with a guy who said America deserved 9/11, they are campaigning for a guy with a Nazi SS tattoo who said women should wear kevlar panties if they don't want to be raped, plus multiple other candidates that are just as bad.

Great. The Republican Party doesn't support any of it. And without overturning Citizens United and ending gerrymandering, our republic belongs to the billionaire class.

I would only agree to a permanent green card for any adult here illegally. but they should have been here at least 10 years with no crimes and a full time job for at least 5 years. No citizenship. Their kids, as long as they have no criminal record, could become citizens in 5 years.
Whatever floats your boat. An arbitrary number of years and zero tolerance for mistakes doesn't seem like good policy to me, but you have to start the discussion somewhere. At least it's better than selling our citizenship to the highest bidder.

Trump has made a lot of mistakes, including starting a war without finishing it, but he did a lot of good things like controlling the border, taking action against Universities for not doing anything about the rampant anti-semitism on campus, freed Venezuela from Maduro, convinced many manufacturers to open plants here.

It's hard to have a conversation when you drop down into this partisan nonsense. "Let's just ignore the awful things 45 has done and call the other side names" isn't a real argument. What I was trying to convey with my last post is the left isn't the boogie man that right wing propaganda makes it out to be.

Here are rational alternatives to your pro-47 takes:

1. Controlling the border? By ignoring the law, setting up a cruel detention system, and illegally curtailing legal immigration. If you don't believe the president should be limited by the law, than you prefer a dictator over a democracy.
2. Anti-semitism at Universities? This was nothing more than an attempt to strong-arm universities into making changes to support conservative policies in flagrant violation of the first amendment.
3.Maduro? This operation was undoubtedly about looting Venezuela's oil and natural resources. It's completely disingenuous to pretend it was about freedom for Venezuelans.
4. Manufacturing? Manufacturing jobs declined during his first term and so far in his second term. It's all smoke and mirrors. Promote the commitment. Hope no one remembers when the jobs never appear. If they do, blame your opponents.

The point isn't that one of us is right and one is wrong. It's that there are reasonable takes on the other side.

It's hilarious that your go to criticism for the Democratic Party is that two guys said bad stuff. One of whom has disavowed the stupid takes of his past. While ignoring that the guy you prefer as PRESIDENT has said and done the same stuff. Grab'em by the *****. Dinner with a white nationalist, holocaust denier, and antisemite. Praising Hitler's generals. Calling people who died in service to this country suckers and losers. And he's likely a rapist and pedophile. He's also corrupt, a fraud, and prolific liar.

I mean, I could think of a long, long list of criticism for the Democratic Party. But two guys on the fringes of the party said some stuff a while ago falls pretty far down the list. But that's the problem with the propaganda. It tries to convince you over and over again that little **** like that is the end of the world.

The US is a strange country where millions of undocumented migrants live and work openly. When the authorities catch an undocumented worker they arrest and deport them where possible, but little is done to the employer, who is often an American citizen. The employer should also be arrested and punished for knowingly breaking the law, yet there is nowhere to deport that citizen to. It is odd: the US has a problem with undocumented migrants but lets the American employers off lightly — a fine may be levied, but is that sufficient? The administration blames the migrants while excusing its own citizens.
Trump has made a lot of mistakes, including starting a war without finishing it,
Well, you people knowingly voted him in, so his failings are your responsibility too. There is little you can do about it under a constitution that grants the sitting president vast, almost authoritarian powers — comparable to those of a monarch in some Muslim countries. The president’s mistakes affect the world, which drives the push for de‑dollarisation; Trump is a catalyst for that. The sooner de‑dollarisation happens, the better for the world — and the worse for the average American: the dollar’s purchasing power will fall, and there could even be an exodus of US citizens.

Oh, the Trump's war against Iran? The US has lost the war. It was obvious since 10-12 March. Finally he had to sue for a ceasefire. And Trump will help cause defeat in the mid‑terms. The problem for Americans is the absence of a viable third party, so it’s like merely changing the pillow to try to stop a headache.

Sigh. Assumed something like that would be the response.

I’m going to trust dozens of my friends and family who live in Europe (and my own eyes when I visit) over a discredited right-wing “economist” turned conservative pundit and a bunch of blatantly racist accounts I see on X screaming about the end of Europe. It’s an echo chamber with no connection to reality.

Again, your news sources are lying to you - about Europe, and also about what the Democratic Party has “turned into”. I’d strongly encourage you to look into it with an open mind, or failing that, if for no other reason than to prove me wrong.
