Time to get the rumor mill kicked into high gear: Multiple music industry sources say Apple executives have told them the company is planning one of its famed keynote events for the week of Sept. 7.

But in true Apple fashion, the company has been noncommittal about the exact date of the event and what it will be showing off.

Its "cocktail" album/multimedia packaging?
A new iPod touch?
Perhaps an updated iPod nano?
Maybe, just maybe, the Apple tablet?

Apple Keynote Event Scheduled for Early September?

MediaMemo reports on claims from music industry sources that Apple is planning a keynote event for the week of September 7th.
Time to get the rumor mill kicked into high gear: Multiple music industry sources say Apple executives have told them the company is planning one of its famed keynote events for the week of Sept. 7.

But in true Apple fashion, the company has been noncommittal about the exact date of the event and what it will be showing off.
Given the apparent inside information held by media executives, the report suggest that the event may highlight Apple's rumored "Cocktail" iTunes album enhancements.
Given that Apple has tipped off music industry executives, it’s a fair bet that the event will incorporate music in some way. Perhaps it will show off the new “Cocktail” format that Apple has been working on, which bundles full-length albums with other goodies like album covers and interactive bells and whistles.
iPod updates are another likely possibility, with evidence pointing to the possibility of revised iPod touch and nano models offering built-in cameras. Rumors of Blu-ray support, iPhone app organization and social media integration in iTunes 9 are another possible topic of discussion for the event. Finally, rumors have pointed to the possibility of an announcement regarding Apple's much-rumored tablet computer as early as September.

Apple has traditionally held media-focused keynote event each September to introduce new iTunes features and iPod updates, making the announcement of a similar event this year an unsurprising move.

- 2008: Apple held a "Let's Rock" event to introduce iTunes 8 and new iPod touch, nano, and shuffle models.

- 2007: Apple held a "The Beat Goes On" event introducing the original iPod touch alongside updates to the remainder of the iPod line, an iTunes 7.4 update, and iPhone price drops.

- 2006: Apple offered the "It's Showtime" event introducing iTunes 7 and iPod updates, as well as a sneak peak at the "iTV" that launched several months later at the Apple TV.

- 2005: Apple's "Here We Go Again" event introduced the Motorola ROKR mobile phone with iTunes support alongside the release of iTunes 5 and saw the introduction of the original iPod nano to replace the iPod mini.

I almost forgot how quickly iTunes jumps version numbers.

if they don't launch the new iPods September 8th or 9th they're domed as the Zune HD launches the on the 15th

didn't they update the iMacs back in March?

If it's that early in September, I am not expecting the tablet yet. I think that will be in October, especially if it isn't coming until November. Apple does not want long periods of pre-release before products anymore as stated after the 1st iPhone. Here's my take:

(1) iTunes 9 - Finally rewritten in Cocoa, better performance.
(2) "Cocktail" - the rumored new way to distribute albums
(3) iPod Classic - remains the same, more space if a hard drive is available.
(4) iPod Nano - Similar design, maybe a wider screen...camera definitely.
(5) iPod Touch - Similar design, iPhone 3gs features in terms of processer, graphics chip, etc...plus a video camera. I would like GPS, but don't expect it until next year.
(6) Apple TV Update - 1080p, much more storage, App's for expanding into the Gaming Market, new remote.

While the mid-year event is supposed to be about iPods (and there will be new iPods, of course) and iTunes, that's also around the release date of Snow Loepard.

With SL's rewritten core, one should also expect some new hardware requiring this core. My bet is on BluRay drives and a new Atom-based AppleTV.

maybe even news on an updated imac and the now infamous itablet. :):)

We can but hope.

Sounds like Apples yearly new/revised ipod event. I would be surprised if the new rumored tablet gets shown at the iPod event unless it's major function is a music/media player? If it has a built in e-book reader, well who knows?--)))

I want some Beatles.

The re-mastered albums are coming on September 9 and there was a story saying that they would go online after this work had been done.

You might get them but Apple probably won't make a big deal about it unless it's an iTunes exclusive.

All I can say is... You people hoping for the Tablet are only going to be let down. It won't come till some time next year!

Just sayin'... time to crank up the Beatles speculation again?

Oh man I had one of those Motorola ROKR phones. They were terrible!

Thanks MacRumors, my iPhone caused me to forget, and then you bring it back up! ;)

I want this.

a birdy told me...

September 8 - ipod/music event led by the one and only Phil Schiller

October 13 - Macbook Event - introducing the new "tablet" device that will sit within the macbook lineup similar to how the macbook air is a subset of the macbook line-up. This event will be led by the one and only Steve Jobs.
