You might want to correct that article. iTunes 6 was introduced in october 2005, barely a month after iTunes 5. iTunes 7 was released in 2006 along with the second gen nanos and 5.5g iPods.

who even has FM radio on media players. let alone who uses it?

OLED is nice, the 3.3 inch display has no multi-touch tho

Really? I was pretty sure it does have multitouch...

If it doesn't, that is too bad. Where did you see that it did not have it?

if they don't launch the new iPods September 8th or 9th they're domed as the Zune HD launches the on the 15th

didn't they update the iMacs back in March?

doomed? Seriously?

I'm as excited as anyone about the new iPod Touch models coming out....but I'm thinking that the Zune HD has so little influence that it's hardly worth mentioning. They could release the new Touches the day before Christmas and they'd still sell more than the <name-your-next-iPod-killer> or Zune HD.

Yes the new Zune is multi-touch. Saw a video of it. I think people are under-estimating how well this thing does. I hope I'm wrong, but there is A LOT of positive buzz about it.

iPod touch

Period.

Officially yes. But the forums usually give it another name. As in, "iPod Touch" vs "iPod Touch 2G" vs (what will most likely be called (in the forums only)) "iPod Touch 3G"

But yes, on the Apple Website it will eternally be called the "iPod touch"

EDIT: Also, as far as the Zune HD goes... if the new iPod touch doesn't completely amaze me, I'm getting one :D I'm very impressed with Microsoft this time 'round.

Wait what? How is the Zune HD a year behind the iPod Touch 2nd Gen...

Have you seen the specs?

ah.. I stand corrected. The Zune HD does include 720P which means nothing on a 3" screen showing down-rez'd video (and you want to chew up space so that you can what... output to a TV. That'll happen real often.)
It also brags of that cutting edge 21st century feature "FM Radio", and that dead in the cradle "HD Radio" feature.
And of course there's that never to be equaled Microsoft interface that can't even fit all the letters of "marketplace' on the screen... Outstanding!!
Oh yeah... no multi-touch.
I stand humbled.

OLED may be nice... that's a leapfrog that will be caught up with on the touch of course.

October 13 - Macbook Event - introducing the new "tablet" device that will sit within the macbook lineup similar to how the macbook air is a subset of the macbook line-up. This event will be led by the one and only Steve Jobs.
That's certainly plausible. The tablet is starting to sound less like something that would fit into the iPod/iPhone lineup.
Actually… given the rumors of iPhone OS and iPhone-like shape, it's closer to an iPod touch / iPhone than a MacBook.

well what other shape would it have? a thick 1 inch unibody shell? it seems like anything thin and slick can be described as an iphone-like shape.

i just dont see apple wanting to market this thing as an ipod or some sort of fake iphone... market it as a tablet computing device. i do agree i still am unsure what OS it will have. I can make the case for both scenarios.

Heres my prediction

1. Talk about sales of the iPhone 3GS
2. Talk about the new countries which it was introduced in
3. The success of the app store
4. A mini gist about the app review process and that they 'hear' the developers
5. Talk about iTunes in general, and how far it has come since they introduced it in January 2001
6. Introduce iTunes 9
7. Introduce some of the new features they're working on, namely being Facebook/Twitter/Lastfm integration
8. Facebook - the ability to post your smart/regular playlist directly to Facebook, and the songs clicked will open up in iTunes
9. Twitter - instantly tweet what song you're listening to from within iTunes with the click of a button, and see what others are listening to as well all in a custom interface from within iTunes
10. Lastfm - the ability to integrate and use lastfm radio stations, as well as track, follow artists, groups and be able to view their recent concert locations and upcoming ones. In addition, you can sync wirelessly with Lastfm with your iPhone or iPod touch for songs heard through the phone, which will show up inside iTunes which you can then purchase through iTunes

11. Talk about the current layout of the app store, and how they're always trying to improve it for those developers who are smaller than some of the big heads
12. Introducing now in iTunes 9 is the ability to organize your own apps (both paid and free) according to your liking
13. Organize apps by putting them in their own groups, setting their own genre labels, and even color tabbing their groups in order of importance
14. In addition to this, you can organize apps according to date added, genre, or alphabetically
15. Talk about how they were able to do all this and make iTunes magically faster
16. "We thing we like what we've done with iTunes, and we hope you enjoy it as much as us" speel to end the iTunes part of the keynote

And I don't know what comes after this point :p. I really don't think a tablet device will be unveiled at this point, but if it was, Im sure that would follow the iTunes section of the keynote. Another thing is maybe the Blu-Ray support, but even that is doubtful. Ofcourse, im fully speculating on all these points and being very conservative, I could be completetly wrong, and Apple could *possibly* unveil the REAL time machine they were working on.

LOL! I'm sure the iPod will survive the Zune HD.

Speaking of which, the Sept announcement is a perfect time to "knife the baby" (using a classic Microsoft line), the baby being the Zune HD. Remember how Apple instantly rendered the Zune 2 irrelevant with the iPod touch announcement? An epic Apple vs Microsoft moment.

I smell a repeat...

you are exactly right.
Apple's operations will completely stop. Production will cease.

The Woz will be required to report to Apple to begin thinking of new gadgets because the entire Apple lineup will be officially termed "domed"

What happened to Woz anyways?, where'd he go?

I stand corrected... it does advertise as having multi-touch, although I'll have to see if its anywhere as well designed implementation as the touch.

But seriously folks... FM? The only thing worth listening to on FM is Public Radio, and for that I use the "Public Radio" app. Clear Channel killed radio... that one's dead and buried.

It has multi-touch. The poster before was wrong. And all your other arguments are opinion based.

What happened to Woz anyways?, where'd he go?

no where

He works for Fusion-io, a data storage and server company, in Salt Lake City, Utah as their chief scientist

but he also remains on apple's payroll so he does some PR things for apple here or there (nothing major)

he is also doing speaking engagements

Well far be it from an Apple centric list to reflect opinion, huh?

However, "HD" on a 3" screen being worthless is not an opinion.
