This is absolutely true!!! All my posts and questions regarding this matter were all deleted from Apple´s forums!!! I had to pay some 700 dollars to fix the faulty 5 dollar flex cable issue!!! A very ROTTEN APPLE in this matter...

I am missing something here. Being owner of a macbook pro 15 inch 2016 my screen has all the symptoms described. In any case i am stuck because Apple gives price indication for repair of 900 euro's and if you try to trade in the unit thru apple the value is zero! Even if the unit is in perfect condition otherwise. Calling apple helpdesk what to do next is giving me only a lot of sympathy and no solution. So what does this outcome of the judge help me in europe?

Nothing. You will still be stuck with a broken device Apple sold you for a lot of money. They won't repair it for free and will not acknowledge that it's their design fault.

So: Apple as usual.

As above, I believe Europe has much stronger protections for consumers. You would have to research if they apply in this case. Regardless, if it looks to Apple that the US legal outcome might be negative they will most likely expand the current 2016 13" display replacement program to other models. I have the same machine as you with the same symptoms.

The same here. MBP 2017, 13 inch, two thunderbolt, 3 ports. Opened laptop and have 1 vertical line in the middle of the screen and many horizontal small lines all over. Disappears when closing the screen to a 30° angle.

Went to Apple service and repair shop where they told me that because my Macbook is 2 years and 3 months old, costs would be all mine. The whole screen had to be replaced and would cost 700+ euros!!!

I can agree that I have to pay after warranty has expired but this is more than reasonable, especially when it's clearly a well known fault in production. They gave me the phone number of the Apple consumer desk and got to speak 2 different persons who both confirmed they could do nothing because the 2017/2018-models are not eligible models. Even a partial compensation wasn't possible. The only thing they wanted to do was note down the complaint.

I feel like buying an Apple product is becoming a financial risky business. Things get broken, but for paying a lot of money I expect a firm taking their responsibility when a production fault occurs. I loved working with Apple products but now I'm not going to take the risk anymore.

I must be a first, but this flexgate issue is still a problem in 2020 M1 MBP. This has not been fixed. I started developing this issue after about the first month of getting it and had Apple warranty replace my screen.

However, I can see this as a reoccurring problem in the future. What would happen after warranty? It seems like the current replacement program only covers the '16-'17 models?

So just an update for you. My stage lighting issue started showing up in mid March of this year on my 2016 15" TB MBP. As of today I cannot fully open the screen anymore as it results in the screen going completely blank. I have to keep it approx 75° angle anything beyond that renders the display completely blank. It took approx 2.5 months from the time the stage lighting started showing up to the time the flexgate blank screen issue started showing up. Still no repair program from Apple for this issue on 15" machines.

I literally posted this issue in the Flexgate thread about a week ago. Got a 2016 15" TB MBP which has this stage light issue. Called Apple. They said only 2016 13" MBP's with this issue are covered. Cost to fix is astronomical.
I have the same problem with the same result, exept my battery had melted and they change the inside lowest part of the machine, but the screen nope ...

I have the same issue. Mine is a 2017 MBP 4-port thunderbolt.

The issue showed up just recently.

The flex issue is only shown on the bottom of the Retina monitor, not sure if it will get even worse. Contacted Apple Support, they said only the 2016 MBP models sold between Oct, 2016 and Feb, 2018 are eligible for the fix program. Read all previous discussions, apparently, this is a hardware design issue. Apple should fix all these issues, but not only the 2016 models.

Just curious, did you document it anywhere other than with Apple support directly?
