Same principle as always people. If Apple or ANY developer charges something for an app, then it forces the customer to read the description and be sure what they are downloading. Thus reducing the amount of negative reviews from customers who are always quick to criticize when it is often their own fault.

Anyway. I really dislike FaceTime. I have never ever gotten it to work twice with the same person. The amount of identifiers is mental. I can't even call myself with an iPhone 4.

Use Tango.

I'm really waiting for them to release a Mac or Windows version of it though..

And we begin to see the ultimate reason for the App Store: to nickel and dime people to pay for add-on features of the OS.

You'll get the basic OS with Lion. Wanna iChat/FaceTime...pony up. Need augmented mail feature...pony up. Want "professional" versions of iApps...pony up. Heck, for $19.99, Steve may even allow you to purchase the "bag of hurt" that is Blu-Ray playback.

And we criticize Microsoft for 3 software versions?

I've had an iPhone 4 since launch, only used FaceTime twice. One to test it and the other because my niece got an iPod Touch and wanted to test FaceTime, so that's basically two tests I guess...

So the new MacBook Pros will have HD 720p Facetime HD (iSight) cameras! Sweet :D

(See the description for the app in the Mac App Store)

It Says "Receive HD video calls at up to 720p on supported, Intel-based Macs."

This is reciving video calls from an iphone4. I think the new pros will have an HD iSight, but this doesn't really point to it.

D'hell.

I'm not going to buy a cut down iChat. It's either a free download or none at all for me, and I use Face Time too! If it wasn't for the Mac App store this would have been a free, additional feature to OSX.

I think I'll opt out of this Mac App store nonsense now.

At least Skype have a free cross-device video chat that works really damn well.

Obviously, this will replace iChat AV in OS X Lion. I think I'll just wait (Heck, I don't even have an iPhone 4 :)).

When Steve is still around, Tim Cook is already screwing everybody.

Getting used to the mac app store

The entire point of this is not for apple to get another almost-dollar from you, but it is to get you familiar/comfortable with the mac app store. Once they have you there they can sell you all sorts of other items.

In the business world, this is tantamount to a "loss-leader"
