Honestly, the way *I* feel about this whole situation is like... it's like waiting in a long line at a Chinese restaurant and seeing everyone who gets seated in front of me get complimentary soup and egg rolls, but then when *I* sit down they just give me a bowl of those fried crackers.

The crackers are fine, though not really my thing. And if I want soup I'll go ahead and order some on my own. But having to sit there and watch the people who came in before me enjoy their soup and egg rolls isn't fun.

Not exactly the best analogy. Seem to be implying that you're being discriminated against

A better analogy would be Ben & Jerry's giving everyone free hot fudge/strawberry syrup and whipped cream (assuming you're a fan of whipped cream and fudge/syrup) with your icecream every summer. After summer ends, you wait and wait and wait for the next summer, assuming they're gonna do it again. Summer comes by again, and now they're only offering free sprinkles. :p

Wow, lame deal. Time to buy from Amazon where it will no doubt be cheaper thanks to no tax.

Apple - finding ways for me not to buy from them since 2006.

There you go! Show Apple who's boss because surely they don't make any money selling the products to Amazon in the first place!
Glad to see people taking an important stand in their lives.

I am sure my post will be put down, but as someone NEW to Mac having never owned one, this was something I was looking forward to. Why....because I have never owned anything Apple. I wouldn't suggest I was against Apple in any way, I just chose other avenues (PC, Zune and Android) Does it make my decision harder to buy a Macbook Pro? Not really, I have wanted one for years but could never justify the extra cost. Now that my second laptop in 5 years is taking a ****, it has made me reconsider the cost (which I have already spent on laptops, batteries, cables and virus protection)

So for me to say this new promotion is not a let down would be a lie. I am going to be an Apple convert (how will I not love the Mac?) and I was really hoping for an Ipod to go along with it. Again, my decision has not changed, just my thoughts of converting everything over to Apple soon may have slowed. Maybe I can deal on an Iphone in the store with my MBP :apple:

By the way... just got back from my local Apple store and the place was going bananas. A lot of people seemed really excited about getting the student discount+free printer+Lion upgrade+$100 GC.

After listening to some of the reactions on this board I was expecting some sort of riot due to the lack of a free iPod. I didn't even see anyone storm out in protest determined to abandon Apple forever in favor of the superior Xbox offer!

Not exactly the best analogy. Seem to be implying that you're being discriminated against

That's not what I was saying at all. I wasn't trying to imply that it was just *me* who wasn't getting soup, but myself and everyone who came after me in line, and with no notice.

Really? Are THAT many thinking they are ENTITLED?

I have watched and read the comments, and have actually found myself laughing at some of the comments. So, first off, I want to thank all of those that have made me laugh with their statements, comments, and remarks about this issue. It has been WAY better than watching 2 drunk soldiers arguing in the language of Jack Daniels.

I work on Windows machine because I can make money at it when fools get malware, spyware and viruses on their computers. Here, I have to thank Bill Gates for unwittingly creating a job for me. But I also have to help those non-technical people with their iPhones, iPods, iTunes, etc, so I have to throw Steve-O a big Thanks too.

News flash for everyone. Apple is a private company/business, and as such they are in business to make money for the company in the US. They are not here to GIVE AWAY the profits, be directed by a government to sell at a specific dollar amount, or both. Those of you that think Apple should be REQUIRED to GIVE you a free 8GB iPod Touch are really a sad bunch. I can hear it now! "They have set a precedence by doing that in the previous years" is NOT a valid argument. So what if Apple did that in years past? Are you not able to see beyond your own selfishness at what is going on with not only the US economy, but the rest of the free world? "This is the way it was always done in the past" or "It has always been done it this way" is a statement of those afraid of change, those fearful of the future or a challenge.

I have never owned a mac computer, but am planning on getting one soon before the BTS promotion expires. I, like lots of other people, was hoping for the "free" iPod Touch to give to my son for his birthday this summer. I figured that since Apple had provided the iPod with the Japanese BTS sale a month or so ago, the US would also get this "gift". Well, we didn't, and instead Apple offers a $100 gift card. Am I happy about it? No. Do I think Apple is making a mistake in marketing on this? Yes. I get a $100 gift card along with $100 off a MBP. That is WAY better than a sharp stick in the eye ANY day. (and for those that don't understand that phrase, it is better than getting nothing back and having to pay full price.

And, YES, I will be purchasing a MBP this summer, even WITHOUT the free iPod Touch. I just hope that the MBP meets my expectations.

Err.. but you're not watching people in front of you get their free soup. You're remembering some people you saw 12 months ago getting free soup.

Well if he used his bank of america rewards card he would get 2 points for every dollar.... So thats 40 dollars off.... Plus he gets 100 dollars back in rebate money for his Printer... and oh wait if he decides to sell his 100 gift card.. thats another 85 dollars off... How is b&h cheaper now? The final cost for his mac owuld be 1357.84... And if he decides to sell his printer for an easy 60 bucks it will be minus the 60 dollars.. So i really think you get a better bargain with apple no?

Adding all those deductions

It's not Apple's fault if you have more wants than money.

Low Cost/Quality vs. High Cost/Quality

You get to pick. Choose wisely.

Crack kills

Hmm. I wonder if Apple is going to consider dropping the iPod Touch at some point in the future. Maybe they will update it one last time this September. With the unlocked iPhones being sold now and the next iPhone being delayed until September as well, who knows what will happen.

did you not watch the keynote and itunes being a large portion of income... What have you been smoking??

I understand that and even expect that, but suggesting that we should not be disappointed by it is ridiculous. Would you blindly hand over your credit card no matter what the price?

Oh and while we're at it, please skip the patronizing tone.

Oh, I think it's disappointing, no one likes price increases but sometimes you do have to just accept the fact that they will happen (It's been happening since at least the beginning of last century or rather before. Inflation is something that never seems to go away). I just think some people on here are being way overdramatic (the poster child was the guy who claims he's a 30 year Apple fan and all his family has macs and he's going to change over all the computers to PCs cause of this).

ANd yes, I will be patronizing to them cause their acting like little kids stomping their feet.

And if you come back with a snotty, "Macs are too expensive/not that much better!", then your decision is easy. Enjoy Windows.

And I'll say something for at least something you get with Mac (least those of us with easily accessible Apple stores) that you won't get with PCs.

I've been having issues with my MBP not detecting my monitor. It is no longer under warranty. Today I went in to a genius appointment and he helped me troubleshoot it to find my problem (turns out it was my mini display port to VGA adaptor). He didn't charge me for his time, he even took time to see if he could find an old VGA monitor lying around we could test my connector with. This was very helpful to me as I don't have anyone else I know with the same so there were certain things I could not test (basically we were also able to use one of his connectors to see if my mac would turn on a monitor, it would). I didn't have to ask or plead for his help, he just said, "let's just connect it up and see if it works with another adaptor/monitor" and when I asked if we could test my connector he happily went to go look to see if they had a VGA monitor around they could use.

And this is not the first time they helped me troubleshoot a problem on a computer that was no longer under warranty. I've almost started taking it for granted that they will do that.

How many PC places would happily help you troubleshoot your out of warranty computer for free? He could have easily said if you want us to find the problem it will cost you this much which is what most technical places would tell you because, well, you're taking their time up (either that they could be using getting money from a paying customer or that their store is paying them and wanting to be reimbursed for that time).

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

If Apple can be accused of anything, it's creating an (ugly) environment of entitlement among their customers. Running the same promotion for several years has apparently convinced some people that Macs go on sale every summer (sell the iPod and reduce your net cost). Good for Apple to stop this madness, and good for Apple to realize more people sell the free iPods than keep them.

Apparently, these little piggies cried waaaaah waaah waaaah all the way home.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

This is *************

Good thing i got my mac last year 219.00 back for an ipod touch sold for 200.00
This is a classic example of greed not everyone wants to by apps or songs.... 100.00 thats not evan half of what they gave last year 219.00

What they should have done is get a free ipod or a credit to buy stuff at apple retail or online in the same amount 219.00 with no stipulations like they normally put like can't by ipad or apple tv... they always take the good stuff out of deals like that.... they want to to by the garbage no one wants.... Also if you give a credit to buy at apple retail then you can make the your own choice to buy an itunes card or buy an app store card.....

Apple has increased it revenue by leaps and bounds you would think the loyal consumers and students might get a more of a bargain then...... less of one in my opinion.

I also ordered the free Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer.. Anyone have this printer is it any good or should i sell it?

For a $100 it is an awesome printer. It does pretty much everything, printing, scanning, and you can find reviews of it on youtube. It is pretty easy to use

"...a classic example of greed..." Excuse me, who exactly is being greedy?

It honestly is disappointing that this is the year they stopped doing the free iPod for me only because this is actually the first year I'm looking to buy a Macbook Air or Pro once the new Airs and Lion are out.

I was excited to think that I could also get a free iPod touch out of the transaction to replace my old iPod in my car.

That said, I will still be buying a MBA with Lion if the refresh is worthy enough of buying. If not, I'll probably just grab a 13" MBP from Micro Center for the never ending $999 they sell it for.

Just switched jobs 6 weeks ago and last place provided a 13" MBP that I'm missing after using this HP here at the new place.

total LET DOWN

what a total LET DOWN. I wanted to take advantage of the promotion last year but I could not afford it at the time. So I saved up this entire year waiting in anticipation for the “buy a Mac get a free ipod touch” or the predicted discounted ipad promo. I have been wanting a Mac for years and it was finally going to happen :( Haha when I used to rep for EPSON I used to sell more Mac products then my own… that’s how much I love Apple … This is TERRIBLE NEWS for me; I need a lap top now and cannot wait until next yr. I don’t want to…… but I guess now I have no other options but to get another horrific PC lap top… :( yeeekh! A PC by force…. this TOTALLY SUCKS! Another disappointment is how APPLE is advertising the 10% student discount as if its a trade off to the “free itouch” promo???? The 10% discount was always offered along side the “free I touch”promo.????
As a child my first computer memories were on the old green display Apples..haha the best days…oragan trail..ect).

Why exactly do you have to buy a PC over a Mac? It can't be money issues because you said that you would have taken advantage of the iPad discount, which ultimately would have cost you more money, not less. You can still get your Mac. I'm also disappointed that a free iPod Touch isn't up for grabs, but it shouldn't be the end all be all in your choice to buy a Mac over a PC. I can't imagine why it would be.
