1. You already get a good educational discount compared to Apple retail prices.
2. Apple, which ever way you look at it, have given you $100 / £65.00 to spend in the App / iTunes / iBook stores.
3. In the US you get a free printer you can always sell on.
4. In the UK you get 3 years warranty for free on your purchase.
5. How many purchasers are genuine students - I'm not knocking you for getting the discount but come on, don't be so grabby.

So, you didn't get an iPod this year....things change and it was never a given Apple would repeat the same offer - TBH it's unusual for a company to so regularly repeat the same deal year-on-year. Sure, an iPod would have been nice but it wasn't to be so move on, stop whining and figure out another strategy. Myself, purchased the 64GB iPod Touch, BNIB, delivered overnight off ebay for £225, compared to Apple's £336. Got it this morning and it's perfect.

I've said it already but it's a sorry state of affairs when so many privileged, affluent customers who can afford Apple's luxury electronic goods bitch about receiving free stuff. One word.....

This one needs some translation

what a total LET DOWN. I wanted to take advantage of the promotion last year waaaaah but I could not afford it at the time waaaaaah. So I saved up this entire year waaaaaaah waiting in anticipation for the “buy a Mac get a free ipod touch” or the predicted waaaaaah discounted ipad promo. I have been wanting a Mac for years and it was finally going to happen :( waah when I used to rep for EPSON I used to sell more Mac products then my own… that’s how much waaaaaaah I love Apple … This is TERRIBLE waaaaaaah NEWS for me; I need a lap top now and cannot wait waaaaaaah until next yr. I don’t want to…… but I guess now I have no other options waaaaaaah but to get another horrific PC lap top… :( yeeekh! A PC by force…. this TOTALLY waaaaaah SUCKS! Another disappointment is how APPLE is waaaaaaah advertising the 10% student discount as if its a trade off waaaaaaaaaaah to the “free itouch” promo???? The 10% discount was always offered waaaaaaaaah along side the “free I touch”promo.????
As a child my first computer memories were on the old green display Apples.waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah the best days…oragan trail..ect).

waaah

Epson NX420

Yup... Two options. At first i thought they were going to charge me 100 for the card, but it deducts towards the end. I also ordered the free Epson Stylus NX420 All-in-One Printer.. Anyone have this printer is it any good or should i sell it?

I have this printer. I love the wireless scanning option but it ran out of ink pretty fast (way too fast). I did not buy replacement cartridges and I now only use it as a wireless scanner while printing from a B/W laserJet printer. If I was to do it all again I would sell it on Craigslist, buy a wireless scanner only and a laserJet printer. Inkjets are not worth the ink money.

Might as well point out some things wrong with your list.

1. Apple EDU discount is crap compared to the past and honestly crap compared to its competitors. Apple EDU discount used to be really nice but they have pretty much slashed it next to nothing.

2. Points back to issue one. This is just another blow to already a pretty poor EDU pricing.

3. Cheap printer. Not exactly a good one so not much use there.

4. OO we forces it up to what competiors were offering any way so again nothing special.

5. That one I could give you. I am a student but I went with dell last year for my laptop because I did need windows and for the the power wises there as a $800-$900 in price and that was way to much for minor gains which was a minor improved battery life. Slightly less weight and an aluminium body. I would be spending most my time in windows any how for school so nothing gained there.

Sorry but those items are not worth 800 bucks. Now between Dell edu discount an4d standard discount I got a really nice deal. I paid 1400 all said and done. $1000 for me is the floor for a computer and I find once you cross the 1200 mark they all make pretty good computers at that price point.

so YOUR decision is an easy one. Enjoy your PC. ha ha

The real reason they had to cut the discount

"Apple has begun work on a $6.6 million project to revamp the plaza at its flagship Fifth Avenue retail store in Manhattan, home of the iconic glass cube entrance leading to the underground retail space. As part of the project, Apple will be temporarily removing the glass cube to install new pavers on the plaza."

They need the cash to pay for a new glass cube.

Why exactly do you have to buy a PC over a Mac? It can't be money issues because you said that you would have taken advantage of the iPad discount, which ultimately would have cost you more money, not less. You can still get your Mac. I'm also disappointed that a free iPod Touch isn't up for grabs, but it shouldn't be the end all be all in your choice to buy a Mac over a PC. I can't imagine why it would be.

I wish it were that easy … times are hard for many people right now. it took me a while to get over the fact that MACS are way over priced compared to their horrific competitors. However, after Apple started their free I pod promo, I thought it was reasonable considering everything I was getting for the higher price. And fyi, I would have most likely picked the free ipod touch over the discounted ipad as it would have been a more portable companion for a Macbook pro….. I despise PC, however I am forced to get another one (lol and go through another bad experience) because they are much more affordable for me at the time. i was not hopping to take advantage of the promo to get a free item just for the sake of getting a free item; no... the free ipod/discounted ipad promo would have been ideal for me as i really wanted an ebook , web browsing , and Mac remote portable unit.

unfortunately it is an end all be all for me at the time... i am making my purchase before mid July. but dont worry i still love Apple :apple: :( maybe i will try again in a few years, that is if my PC breaks.

Just so you all know, I bought a Mac exactly a week ago and Apple honored this policy for my purchase. It seems that they will honor it if your Mac is within the refund policy dates.

That's not what I was saying at all. I wasn't trying to imply that it was just *me* who wasn't getting soup, but myself and everyone who came after me in line, and with no notice.

The analogy doesn't work. You haven't been standing in line for the Apple BTS promotion. Nobody has been standing in line.

I cannot comprehend what "no notice" is supposed to mean in your analogy.

I may be one of the few here, but I plan on getting alot of use out of this and happy about this promotion. I myself, if I want a new ipod will get one in September after the new release. My mom works for our county's school system bought me a MBP on June 12th and I didn't think that her purchase qualified for the Back to School promotion because I had already graduated college and I no longer qualified for the educational discount and that it was under her name. Then, I looked on apple.com and saw that faculty members qualified too. I know that she had purchased the laptop before the promotion started so I understood if it didn't qualify, but she called and they said it was no problem since it was so close.

I had planned on purchasing iWork 09 from the App store anyway, so to me I am very excited about this.

Oh, I think it's disappointing, no one likes price increases but sometimes you do have to just accept the fact that they will happen (It's been happening since at least the beginning of last century or rather before. Inflation is something that never seems to go away). I just think some people on here are being way overdramatic (the poster child was the guy who claims he's a 30 year Apple fan and all his family has macs and he's going to change over all the computers to PCs cause of this).

ANd yes, I will be patronizing to them cause their acting like little kids stomping their feet.

That's fair. Inflation happens. There's no doubt in my mind that the 30 year Apple fan was lying, either about being a 30 year Apple fan or about switching his entire household due to this promo. That said, I do think there will be some lost sales due to the weakness of this promo and the strength of Microsoft's. I've decided to stick with purchasing a Mac once the new Airs come out, but I definitely did do some research into comparable PCs and purchasing one was not out of the question. College students like video games, myself included.

PC AND MACS ARE THE SAME THING!!!!!

PC = Personal Computers.

Macs and Windows, that's a different story.
Seesh. Get your terms right people.

heh, personally I'd much rather have the xbox than the ipod. I already now have two ipod nanos (sold one of them) and an iphone. Got one for my car, and one that I use for everything else (I love my sixth gen nano so nyat to everyone who makes fun of it).

I actually did once buy a PC (I still have it but it got gutted out and redone to compatbile with playing Flight Sim 2000) once cause it was cheaper and I was annoyed Macs were so expensive (this was end of college). I think it lasted me a year before I got annoyed and got a Mac (well, and then I gutted out the PC a few years later and XP wasn't annoying so that actually was my main computer for a few years). I think it was running Windows 1998 (blech blech blech). Anyways, everytime I go back to Mac it just feels nicer :) (and I have nothing against XP honestly, but Tiger, what my macbook came with, was still nicer imho. That and that was right about the time Vista came out and everythign I heard was that Vista was the epitome of what I usually hate about windows so I was glad I dodged that).

I can deal with PCs (and yes, I know technically macs are PCs, but you know what I mean so deal with it), I just strongly prefer Macs (if I can afford it).

Few years back, Apple computers used to cost $200-300 more. When I purchased my 15" MacBook Pro in 2007, it was $1999 for the cheapest one.

Uh, for the MBP.. the Macbook was something around 1100 dollars (no way could I have afforded my 2007 MB if it were that much).

I'm just happy these days they have a 13" MBP that is in my price range (and extra bonus is I prefer the 13" size. Even if I could afford the MBP back then I am not sure if I would go for it or not cause I did actually want the 13" size, not the bigger ones. But I wanted the more "pro" features otherwise. Course, I think today the 13" pro is a nicer MB as it still does not have a dedicated graphics card but, hey, least I get some of the other nicer features and don't get the plastic body that cracks easily).

The promotion applies to college students; therefore, if you're not enrolled in college you do not qualify for the discount. Last year's graduates received a complimentary iPod with their Mac purchases (soup). Now this year's graduates are next in line to receive the promotion, but they get a $100 iTunes gift card (crackers) instead of the iPod (soup). The analogy makes sense. The only defect is that "I" was meant to represent the entire graduating class this year.

"No notice" refers to Apple not announcing the change of terms prior to the beginning of the promotion. That is industry standard though. He/she was probably interested in buying a Mac earlier in the summer but decided to wait for the presumed Back to School iPod promotion.

I will call in the morning an ask for it.

I will let you know, what happen.
Mac osx lion for free at least?

I call today at apple and they were looking if i could get the gift card after 15 days and guess what ?

I got it! 100 gift card for free means some apps and for sure oS Lion.
Now I just need to wait like 3 weeks and they will send it.

lucky me xD

Personally I am fine with this. It never seemed particularly fair to me that people lucky enough to be going into higher education are given free iPods, whilst hard working poor people have to pay the full cost for everything. The $100 app store voucher is utterly worthless, so it levels the playing field nicely.

Student Discount promotions

well finally after much waiting around I got my Macbook pro today and very happy over here in the UK- cant really complain 65 quid on extra to spend better then nothing i say- However I was a bit confused I asked about the free printer promotion as well but I got told it finished and only offer was the back to school one-- so no free printer
Was every1 eles the same? ps lovvvinnnnng my first MacBook :)
