Exactly. Once you are introduced to a brand from an early age and you grow fond of that brand, you tend to become loyal to it, as long as it continues to be relevant in your life.Absolutely brilliant marketing this to get youth hooked on the brand.

Uh.. you'd rather receive NOTHING than headphones for a device you would have bought regardless? What do you know about what they were/weren't going to offer initially? And that they did this because of "Pressure" and "Embarrassment"?
Apple owes you nothing. They are a company, like any other company. Show a little appreciation that they even gave anything away.
maybe different for the Canadian side, I'm not finding any discount on the laptop in our store.
its a personal thing (not saying anyone else should feel the same), but the difference should feel appreciable, and not just be token.
Saving $50 on a laptop thats $1100 is insignificant in the long run. the price of the laptop could go +/- 5% and I probably wouldn't care.
If you're not willing to (for sale purposes) go 10%+, than you're not serious about a sale and it's nothing more than a token gesture.
This is how I look at ANY type of single sale. (obviously, subscription sales would be different, as long term savings would apply)
(I wonder how many people actually have used Beats that criticize it?).
Yes, I *know* they are a company, like any other company. The problem is that based on their actions of the past, I've held them to a higher standard. I now realized they are just another company looking out for the bottom line. That's why I'm almost on DEFCON 1 when it comes to Apple. They are two lies away from being Comcast in my opinion.
So technically Apple products are, will and always have been out of the question for you.
Anyone think it's worth getting the wireless ones for 100 bucks?
could've sold this for 200 on eBay. But i needed my mac then and there sigh.
Because giving them a gift card that can only be used in the Apple store or iTunes store isn't "trying to manipulate their customer base into purchasing a certain product or brand in the future"Personally I would rather Apple go back to the philosophy of looking out for their customers best interest (by giving them a gift card that they can then purchase whatever they like), versus this new philosophy of trying to manipulate their customer base into purchasing a certain product or brand in the future (beats headphones to lure the young generation, Apple watch on celebrities to lure in the "kardashian" crowd, etc.,).
Whose making these decisions, anyways? I feel like we are entering the twilight zone with this company. Gold computers, gold iPads, the biggest acquisition in its history on an overpriced/mediocre headphone/fashion accessory company, less powerful computers, inability to upgrade its machines.. I mean, the list is becoming endless at this point. I am an original purchaser of the iPhone. I owned a Macintosh in the 1980's.. A Black Powerbook G3 in the 1990's. I love Apple products, but I do not like some of the decisions that are being made right now.
This is pretty sad and shows how Angela Ahrendts phoned this in without giving it any deep thought. Not to mention it being late and causing parents and grandparents more stress than they deserve.
Maybe Apple need someone on the team who's mind is still rooted in the street as clearly they are all living in cloud cuckoo land.
Why do you think this was AA decision ?
Given Apple just launched apple music and beats radio, this is a "subtle" promotion to support launch?
I doubt parents or grandparents are stressed being able to afford a Mac for a student, cause the decision was based on the free stuff apple would throw in. It's also school holidays in the UK![]()
Bold: Read the article, many EU countries have this promotion.
Edit: It did say some EU countries also had this promotion but the article has been edited.
I agree with all the people that say this a great thing. It fits the target audience. This is the back to school sale for K-12 and College not the Back to work sale. What apple is doing is giving something that would already be purchased with the computer for free
this is one of the most embarassing "sales", nevermind even for Apple.
wow. Just... wow.
if you're a student, trying to afford a new computer to go back to school. getting a free pair of headphones, while not nothing, doesn't exactly making the purchase of a new computer easier.
Not even a gift card. not even a discount of small sorts on that laptop
and whats more insulting, to the students, just this same very week, Apple showed they made nearly 40% profit on all these products.
if I were a student looking for a good, affordable laptop, Apple just left my list.
which is sad, because Macbook Air's in particular make for excellent school computers.
Seriously, Apple. if you get students into the eco-system, even if it's at a slight discount now, they're likely to stay in your ecosystem and pay for bigger things later. you're essentially telling students "we don't want you as customers".
Every one else in the industry has big sales right now. Whoever made this decision needs to be fired.
the point was buying early to be prepared for going back to school or university. Not the price.
