I just got my new MacBook in the mail on Saturday. Was thinking of going in to an Apple Store to try and get them to honor this promotion. I am still under the 14 day return policy so I could always return it and turn around and buy it again. The only problem is that I ordered the 1.3 Ghz model so unless they sell me back the one I am returning I will have to wait 3 weeks to get my next one. Anyone been in this boat before?

I am within the 14 days on my macbook and I called Apple this afternoon, I got the shipping notice for the headphones about two hours, it was no problem at all. I suggest calling them :)

This is my first experience with Apple and I don't know if I'm just used to crappy service, or if this is standard Apple service but they were really nice about letting me have the promo and I'm grateful, excited to get these headphones!

Wow, thanks. You just saved me a trip across the island. I will give them a call!

You're having a hard time with semantics in this post. You'd have much less responses from users calling out your absurdity if what I'm quoting above was what you actually said in the OC.
It is what I said. Try reading. I said the promotion was a good one that would be even better if it was an iPod touch offered instead of headphones. People must have been thinking I was bitching about the promotion - I wasn't. Nor was I trying to say that everyone must have my opinion. Either way, I'm finished with this now.

My original post for reference:
This is a nice promo, although an iPod touch 6th gen for the same price for free would be a thousand times better. Including something with an iPad or iPhone purchase would have been nice, but they are probably trying to make up for the price of this promo by excluding them and starting the offer later than usual.

Not when eBay is going to be flooded with these.
There's still a lot more demand for these than you might think.
Also, you don't sell a freebie right after you get it if there's thousands more who enjoyed the same offer.

Wait a couple of weeks or 2 months and you're back to fairly regular prices.
Alternatively sell super fast, right on the first day, that's an option, too.

I bought an iMac in 2011 through the education store having not been a student.
I was about to do this just now. Checked out in the education store and it said in little writing at the bottom basically "if we find out you're not a student we will charge you the difference you fraudulent jerk". I think I won't take the risk

Well basically you can take a chance on whether you spend the extra money now, never, or possibly later.

OC as in the original comment I replied to:

It would still be a better device for free, which is my point.

Which I stated wasn't really a point because anything is better for free. Yet you still managed to mux up the semantics of that, misunderstand it, along with repeating to verbatim what I had stated. Talent.

Your signature says I'm wrong. So I'll go do the education discount consequences be damned

They really can't find out. Even if they do, ya pay the difference you would have anyways. It's worth the relatively limited risk. Money is money. Apple does whatever they can to milk the system via hiding income and off shoring profits. We can play the game too. Right? Thought so. :)

This is incredibly good! I'm so excited!

:) It's like Amazon Prime Day at Apple! :)

Can I get a 55 gallon drum of lube instead?

I purchased a new rMBP on Thursday via the Online Store and received the email confirming I could request the "surprising gift" by calling Apple or replying to the email. I replied to the email, anyone else had this and heard anything back from them? The promo on their website does say for purchases from the Online Store after 6th August... so strange I received the email?

I never got this email, but after reading Chicki's reply I just called apple and they sent me a pair of the Solo2 headphones. I ordered my macbook on 7/3 and received it on 7/20 and they still sent me the headphones. I'm guessing it is because i could have just returned it to the store and re-purchased it.

Such a strange email to pop up I thought! Unexpected.

Just for people's information 1-800-MY-APPLE can't pull up order info for callers to redeem the offer until tomorrow morning! Their system is down for maintenance this evening.

Maybe I have defective ears or something but I own a pair of these and a pair of in ear beats and I don't think they really sound bad, I purchased them because I think they look neat and when I tested them at best buy I liked the sound quality.

Heck I use the Apple EarPods everyday at work to listen to music or podcasts and I think they sound great.

I am obviously not an "audiophile" and I would assume most of the population also is not and would be quite okay with this

Both of our ears must be defective then dude. I was all aboard the beats hate train for awhile then I actually tried them. Liked them so much I bought a pair of beats studios for me and my girlfriend.

You don't have defective ears. I have the wireless version and I love'em. I wasn't on the hate train but I was indifferent to Beats prior to this. I prefer the Solo2 over the Sennheiser Momentums or the Audio-Technica ATM-50x (the ones all self-appointed audiophiles gush over.) Personally, I think there are too many people that just follow the herd. Ironically, haters think they're being sophisticated, tasteful, and rebellious by hating a product they probably haven't even tried. The rest of us that don't give a f*** about the image, and want a pair of comfortable HPs that makes you not want to analyze the sound and just rock out, will find enjoyment with these cans.

$199 value but this costs Apple less than any other BTS promotion.

how? You are implying that their products have a high mark up. So, if so then a 100$ store gift card would be used also buying a product with a high mark up. Thus lowering the value of the gift card. Unless of course you buy a bunch of accessories from third party retailers on their website, these of course are marked up even higher paying out apple and the manufacturer. Cases have a ridiculous mark up on their price, but what people forget is the cost of research and development to make great products.
