I've been trying to find out if you really have to prove that you are a college student or educator because my wife and I are considering a new iMac. Does Apple ask for anything to verify, or is it basically the honor system?

Order it online and pickup in store. They don't check anything. If you purchase it directly in store they will ask for an educator or student ID.

I was a college student when I did this but all I had to show was a collage ID. Do one of you have that?

I find it ridiculous that people will pay $900 for an iPad plus more for a stylus and keyboard when a much more capable Mac can be had for $850. I guess Apple figures if the customer is already that much of a sucker, there's no sense wasting a pair of Solo3's on them.

Wait, the Mac has touchscreen? It can be used as a tablet?

Oh, apples to oranges comparison.

You'd do better selling them on eBay at a buy it now price of $199 you'd still net about $140 roughly after fees and shipping. But it sounds like the trade in option is easier and if the gift card is as good as cash for you then sounds like this is a good option.

ebay is about to get flooded with these, and it's suggested target price was below $95, so $199 isn't realistic, not to mention the extra effort it would take. Also factoring in ebay/PayPal fees, the straightforward Amazon trade-in seems like the better deal for me. Good to consider both options though, you're right!

maybe it's been posted above, but i'll mention it again just in case.

i bought the 10.5" a few weeks ago and called to see if i could get the headphones without having to return the ipad first and ordering a new one. CS woman said that as long as the ipad was delivered by june 28 (earliest cutoff date), you're within the time frame to get in on the promotion. mine was delivered on the 29th so it was easy enough to tell her which model and color i wanted.

My Macbook Pro was delivered on 6/27 so when I called yesterday, I was out 15 days. Nice lady still let me have a Solo3. :). It will be delivered soon.

You asked in store or online? I talked to apple chat rep and they said they will ship it in 7 days. Also that it will appear in my order status within 7 days, I'm not sure if they just said that or it will really happen.

No, college was a long time ago for us! I wish they would include grade school students. We have a daughter that I'm sure will use it for school projects.

Our closest Apple Store is about 4 hours away. I would be ordering online and having it shipped to my house. I got to the point of ordering, just messing around the other day, where it asked for credit card info. I never saw anything asking me to verify that I was eligible for education pricing.

I don't begrudge anyone who is able to take advantage of this promotion, but I have school aged children who are still in elementary school, so I don't get to use this promotion. Neither my husband nor I are in the education field, and my kids need a new computer. I am planning to buy a new iMac before school for me, and hand down my old one to them, specifically for school use. But because they aren't in college, we aren't eligible for this promotion.

Is everyone on this thread who is taking advantage of this either in college or an educator?

I am a university educator. I spend very limited time at the university but nonetheless I qualify.

However, Apple never asks for verification of my status. I believe they only do that if you buy in the store. I buy almost all my Macs online. They’re usually CTO so I can’t buy in the store anyway.

Yes I will be doing a CTO. So I would (could?) just order through the education side and they don't actually verify anything?

Was going to buy another macbook pro, this was perfect timing LOL.

Should I get the beats, sell them, then buy the airpods? Or is the beats worth it? I was going to use them for running.

You'll never know for sure if the air pods will fall out of your ear while running until you try. Mine have never fallen out, but they do wiggle themselves out of my ear canal while running. Some people on here can't run with them at all. They are incredibly convenient though, always charged. Ear buds with cords never work for me (like BeatsX) as I get a weird vibration in my ears as the cord rubs against my neck. I guess bottom line is you are going to have to try them out as nobody can tell you if airpods will stay in your own ears. If they do, however, good chance you'll love them.

I called them and that's exactly what I was told as well.

Anyone else find it unfair/ridiculous that a MacBook Air (849) allows you to get a pair of Solo3’s ($299) but iPad Pro 12.9 ($899) only gets you BeatsX ($149)?

From a consumer point of view, it is but I guess the profits from the MBA are much higher than the iPad Pro.

If I purchase a MacBook Pro and get the headset and end up not liking the MacBook and return it will I have to pay for the headset? Or will the let me return those also?

You have to return the headset as well, it's a bundled deal you can't have either one.
