It is a shame that Apple decided to only offer this pack in white. I am surprised they didn't offer the same colors as the released iPhones.
I wonder if they will - for the upcoming ones? With rumours circulating that the halo colour will be changed from pacific blue to a bronze colour and the space grey changing to a jet black type colour, it makes sense to hold off on colour matching for a couple of months?

That sounds plausible. Has Apple ever offered battery packs on iPhone release day? I don't think they have.

Ok, so hmmmm, how I charge it!? :D
From Apple:

Charge your MagSafe Battery Pack and your iPhone

If both your iPhone and MagSafe Battery Pack need to be charged, you can charge them at the same time. Attach your MagSafe Battery Pack to your iPhone and then plug the MagSafe Battery Pack into a power adapter. Using a 20W or higher power adapter, the MagSafe Battery Pack can charge your iPhone with up to 15W of charging power.

You can also charge both if you attach your MagSafe Battery Pack to your iPhone, then plug your iPhone into a power source. You might want to charge this way if you need to connect your iPhone to another device while charging, like if you're using wired CarPlay or transferring photos to a Mac.

Why does it matter, though? You just slap it on there and keep using the phone.
I feel like people aren’t really thinking this through. Fast charging matters more when your phone is tethered to the wall. If you are using an external battery like this to supplement your phone’s battery, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to charge as fast as possible; it’s just creating more heat and shortening the useful life of the phone’s battery more quickly, and the phone isn’t tethered to anything. This was probably exactly Apple’s logic, since it charges the phone at 15W when plugged in.

It only charges at 5w that’s terrible
This might be the only use case where 5w is actually better than faster charging. 5w limits the charge lost though heat. And since it's stuck on the back of the phone anyways, what does it matter how slow the charge is? It's not like you're waiting to charge it so you can grab it and go somewhere.

I personally wanna kind of try my luck with this thing...or something similar. We'll see
Any 3rd party accessories like these are either good or total junk.

I use it almost everyday, works perfect and charges my iPhone 12 Pro very quickly. I do a lot of filming with my iPhone 12 Pro so the battery needs to be charged between work. It will charge my phone from 50% to 100% in about 30 minutes or so if I turn off Optimized Battery Charging. If I don't turn that off it will charge from 50% to 80% in about 20 minutes and not go beyond that. Worth every penny and the MagSafe is very strong and doesn't fall off easy...

Is it me or does the capacity of the battery pack seems bit too low? As per article it seems to be "the accessory offers 1,460mAh"
At 7,6V. The iPhone battery capacity in mAh is always related to one cell voltage of around 3,6V. You also have to consider the voltage.

Or directly compare the 11Wh. ;)
So it‘s comparable with a 3Ah power bank. I want to see the loss due to wireless inefficiency. Let‘s see.

To be honest, I don't actually know. If they do, whenever they do it, it'll be interesting to see if they match ALL the colours (the pro series and the non pro series colour range) ?

Does anyone know the dimensions ?
So it doesnt seem to be able to charge as well as my anker magsafe pack
Is £99
Only comes in white

I would have been all over this but sadly apple its not up to scratch......so Im out

Sidenote... why is there no Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 12 series?

I have a friend who's in construction and he's on the phone all the time. Very heavy user. He's happy with the battery life of his iPhone 11 Pro Max with battery case. But I told him there isn't one for the iPhone 12 Pro Max.

I guess he'll have to use another brand of battery case... but I don't think any of them use Lightning, do they?
Why is there no MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 11? I know the technical reason for that but my point is that Apple added a new type of product (this MagSafe Battery Pack) and removed another type of product (Smart Battery Case), comparing today’s situation with that from a year ago.

Apple prefers to slightly annoy some users by not continuing a specific product line (Smart Battery Case) rather than offering two different products with a similar purpose at the same time (or not try out new ideas). Yeah, that sucks sometimes but it keeps Apple lean and mean. Of course, even if you agree with that general direction, that doesn’t preclude disagreeing with a specific decision.

I'm fine with Apple experimenting with new things. But please don't take away the old thing... :p

I get that Apple has this new cool MagSafe technology. And the battery pack is cool.

BUT... a snap-on battery pack is not a substitute for the previous battery case.

So yeah... it sucks that they took away the old thing.

So he'll have to use a different cable when he needs to charge these 3rd-party cases.

Dang Apple...

Isn’t the whole point of MagSafe that you can mix and match accessories? So to get a battery case, combine an existing case with the battery pack?

A bit too expensive for my blood and I'd probably just opt for a standard battery pack for a quarter or a third of the price, but it's definitely a cool gadget.

Looks OK to me
