So it is entirely possible that the issue was resolved prior to October.

Just got my replacement left one from Apple and indeed the issue is now resolved. Sending faulty back

dont need Apple care for this issue, but glad I have it in case I get another bad batch or battery issues in the future.

ordered a replacement last saturday, they placed a CC hold like it has been said, $197 i think, one airpod arrived yesterday, waiting on the second one. i'd like to set them up / pair etc at the same time, so batteries degrade evenly with use. fedex tracking number shows it's still in the middle of TN since sunday 11 am, i hope it arrives today.

The website --> http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html didn't have information about my replacement left airpod serial number, but judging by the information provided here, it looks it was manufactured in Vietnam the week of August 23 (9th week of the second semester) unless i misunderstood. i hope this problem goes away.

In my experience owning the original AirPods for two years, the case’s battery is actually still holding on its own pretty well.

The buds’ batteries have always been the ones which dragging the whole set down to a barely tolerable point. It’s too tiny to keep its charge for so long, and it deteriorates within months after you buy it.

The theory is you always cycle the buds battery 24/7. The case however didn’t get abused as often. You only charge it when you plug it in, and discharge only for when the buds sit in it.
The case does keep its capacity for longer, but it was still crap by the end of the two years. I would say close to half of what it was when I got them because I would have to charge my case at least twice a day by the end (I have my AirPods in for at least close to half of my waking hours every day).

Interesting. I probably charge my case twice a week compared to an iPhone that gets charged every day. Even with one charge a day, an iPhone battery will have about 95% maximum charge capacity after a year. I'm surprised you AirPods case got bad so quickly.

Like I said, I would use them for a large portion of my day, so they were constantly draining the case and I would charge it everyday. It wasn't until about right before the 2 year mark that the case wouldn't last me the whole day. The AirPods themselves would only last about 2-3 hours on medium volume. I would have to make sure that I charged them before I left my office or else they would likely die on the 1.5 hour bus ride home (the volume maxed made them last 1-1.5 hours). I don't really expect to have that problem with my Pros, especially since I have been working exclusively from home since the end of March and no longer have the long daily bus rides. I've had them for almost a year now (got them a week or two after launch), and although I just recently had both AirPods replaced I still have the original case. I charge it once a day since I plug it in when plugging in my phone, but I can go two days without having to charge my case. I pretty much have them on whenever I'm not in a work meeting or not sitting at my computer (have a headset for that).

Also, for your iPhone battery comment, my X was the worst out my last 3 iPhones after the first year. It was at 86% after the first year and down to 80% after the second year. My 11 Pro is currently at 90% with a year coming up in a couple of weeks. I believe my 7 was at 92% after the first year, but I didn't keep it into the second year. The X was also getting more use on the bus I mentioned above with mobile hotspot and my AirPods connected, so I think that is likely why the battery health on that device was so bad. I only had to take that bus trip for the first 4-5 months of having the 11 Pro.

Got my replacement Airpods yesterday. The crackling noise is gone but ANC is bad as before.

I can have a conversation with my wife 15 meters away in another room with ANC on. Normal?

Peoples voices is really loud in ANC mode. Had hopes that Apple has fixed that.
