I'm trying Plex now since Front Row accessing a remote iTunes library is terrible (i.e. no album art, big monolithic TV show lists, etc.). However, when I went to set up my TV shows it found all but one TV show, and each show had 0 seasons and 0 episodes. So it seems a little rough around the edges... as one would expect from a 0.8.3 release.

But it definitely looks promising... much more so than Front Row which isn't even as good now as it was in the original release, IMO.

Don't want to derail this thread too much with Plex discussion, but organise your TV shows thus:

Show Name > Season x > "Show Name - S0xE0x.avi"

And it'll work just great :)

Use something like A Better Finder Rename if you have a lot of files to rename.

...DVI+Audio > HDMI converters are incredibly expensive.
If you consider $70 (U.S.) "incredibly expensive" then I guess so. In any case, I consider Apple's current lack of support for DisplayPort audio to be a bigger issue. Third-party manufacturers (DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters) are pointing their finger at Apple but I'm beginning to wonder whether multi-channel audio will ever work over DisplayPort. Further, as far as I know multi-channel audio only works with Apple's DVD Player. Thus, if you use QuickTime or iTunes you won't get multi-channel audio by any means unless you hack the system or purchase a third-party device with the necessary drivers.

Can also add the the top bar at the top back, its under view, grid view, show header, finally an easy way to see my albums again xD

Anyone tried 30 FPS 720p?

As Cave said, it was my first thing to try ... FAIL. Sadly.

Beyond that I agree that the interface is a big improvement.

Anyone notice Settings > HDMI Output ??? I do not remember that from before. Has a choice of RGB High, RGB Low, CyBr ... and auto.

FWIW, turns out this update also provides better integration into the Windows 7 task bar, you now can choose from a selection of songs, shuffle and to go straight to the iTunes store.

See the attached image.

Cheers

Apparently the original release of Extras/LP weren't compatible with tv. Big OOPS on Apple's part, but there's a fix: if you've downloaded anything that has LP or Extras, you will get an email soon from Apple telling you to redownload those extras using the following steps:

1. Update to iTunes 9.0.2 or later and Apple TV 3.0 or later.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Choose Store > Check for available downloads.
4. If prompted, enter your account name and password.
5. Download the new iTunes Extras and iTunes LPs to your Mac or PC.
6. Sync the movie or album that includes your updated iTunes Extras or iTunes LP to your Apple TV.

Already read one report in another forum from a user claiming that movies/albums purchased PRIOR to the release of iTunes Extras/LP are being included in this re-download. For example, if you bought Ironman when it first came out on iTunes (pre-Extras), there's a chance you may now get the iTunes extras that go with it.

At any rate, here's the Apple support article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3938

Thanks, big Oops indeed! Just hope the email comes quickly. They say they will be sent out in the next couple of weeks!

I just confirmed that with the new version of iTunes (v9.0.2) you still can not sync 30fps 720p movies to an Apple TV running the v3.0 firmware. I wasn't expecting it to work, but I was kinda hoping for an early Christmas gift from Apple. This means that for 30fps content you are still limited to a 960x540 resolution.

I found an annoying "feature" in the new iTunes -- Apple removed the ability to sync smart playlists that reference other playlists. So if you were using it, as I was, to make a smart playlist that included all music except music I didn't want synced, that playlist is no longer valid. Of course, this isn't documented anywhere, and Apple doesn't like unnecessary prompts, so the new iTunes just blanked my 160 GB ipod.

So now, I need to create a process that automatically turns my smart playlist into a regular playlist once a day or so. Not a huge issue (I'm more annoyed about my ipod being completely erased without being asked), but still an annoyance. I wonder if this bug was part of the palm pre fight, or just someone playing around with the code at apple and thinking "People don't need to sync playlists the reference other playlists"

I am really liking the new home page interface, still simple and clean but a better look in my opinion.

everybody wants the all in wonder box; itunes, internet/email, netflix/amazon-stream, dvd/bluray, games (I'd imagine some people would be complaining if it didnt play nintendo, ps3, and xbox games), oh and they want it be able to play pirated movies... don't forget it has to be under $100

the appleTV does what it does, i think it's great at it.

just think through itunes you are merely thinking of a move a few clicks and you are watching, that's the experience what you are paying for.

Apple will win this battle, hands down.

Are the Palm people that dumb that they don't realize that Apple has probably purchased plenty of Palm Pre's by now to identify codes and technology in the devices to continually block them for all eternity? Just having a USB code will not be Palm's ultimate solution. Apple will release iTUNES updates for various reasons every few months, and guess what? They're gonna deactivate the Palm Pre and make it a less useful device to owners and they will be darn mad. And most likely, they'll be mad at Palm, not Apple.

And the funny thing is, I don't even think Apple considers the Palm Pre a big threat at all. The main reason for blocking the device is copyright and legal reasons because hacking into iTUNES would technically violate Apple's contracts with the music & film industry and Apple is technically under contract to stop things like this from happening.

So I don't blame Apple at all.
People can complain that this is anti-competitive and not playing fair,
but hell, why doesn't Palm write its OWN software?

Hehe this is Palms Business plan.
I mean at least Apple is buying their device.
