Interesting. Thanks for sharing your use case. I never really thought of FaceTime as a Skype alternative before.

This is odd to me. It's a native feature that can be used with anyone who owns an Apple device. No worries on if they have a Skype account. I use FaceTime a lot, I really would like to use it more. I would use FaceTime Audio more, but I already use too much data, as it is.

Seerreeyyy

If I had a nickel for every time I am optimistic and hit the Siri button only to hear "I don't understand" or "here are results I found online" only to be shown useless information, I would be richer than Tim Cook.

Siri is mostly a useless gadget that gets request right less than my local weatherman.

I can't be the only one that feels this way.

...and inevitably I WANT her to work...which is why I try again only to be disappointed. My reaction to her results can best be summed up in this movie clip https://youtu.be/1J-hrYpkRxI

Her snarky-ness/attitude was amusing when she first came out, but when when I'm rushed, trying to do something or get somewhere and she replies with some sarcastic response because she doesn't understand, all I want to do is throw my phone. The novelty and humor has worn off. Would much rather have a more professional response. Siri is not my friend, she's a digital assistant. If my human assistant talked to me that way, I'd find a new one.

Came here just to giggle

There could not be a more classically Apple move.

Apple: "We made an intuitive voice assistant. It responds to plain language and you just talk to it any way you want to."

Users: "It's not very intuitive and we don't use it that much."

Apple: "You're using it wrong. You don't know how to be intuitive. Sigh. We will condescendingly explain to you what you want."

Apple: "PS you don't want ports on laptops anymore either."

Maybe I'm wrong... But...
Maybe "you're doing it wrong"?
As juvenile as that sounds, I know - and granted yes it probably won't work for everyone all the time… But, if you don't mumble, and you actually are patient enough to help it understand how you speak, Siri adapts overtime to your speech patterns. I've had great success with Siri, and honestly people are too quick to brush off the incredible functionality it has!
With the obvious exceptions of not always being aware of the last question, and (sometimes) being affected by background noise, it's so awesome and convenient!
( I know I'm not the only one, but hey, maybe I'm one of the few. I'm just tired of people saying, "It's so terrible!", it's really not that bad. Even my 75-year-old mother uses it often.)

i wish i could say that is the case but sadly it isnt for me. i dont mumble and i speak pretty clearly. it seems to just be something with the timbre of my voice or something as I can hand my phone to a friend standing next to me and they will say the same thing and it picks it up fine. my friends also were perplexed by the consistent problems I have with it. they have problems too, but I seem to have a lot more trouble with it. However, on an android phone (htc one) that my girlfriend has, its pretty much 100% spot on.

and while this probably isnt a big deal to some people, i'll freely admit im pretty foul-mouthed at times and that's one area where google has a leg up... it at least gives me the option to filter profanity, rather than come up with ... really creative substitutions for what i was actually saying. that *is* actually kind of funny at times to see how it mangles my Malcolm Tucker-ish vocabulary.

It's not the functionality or the accuracy that bothers me; it's the conversing with my phone whilst others can overhear, it seems weird and obnoxiously un-private. I don't really like taking calls on the phone in public places either. Maybe if/when it's integrated into Apple TV I may use it, at home, without others listening...
