Apple has launched their iPhone 4 case program on their site at http://www.apple.com/iphone/case-program/. The program offers iPhone 4 customers an App Store App that lets them apply for their free iPhone 4 bumper case.
1. Download the iPhone 4 Case Program app from the App Store.
2. Launch the app on your iPhone 4 and sign in using your iTunes Store account or Apple ID.
3. Select your Bumper or case.

For iPhone 4 purchases made before July 23, 2010, you must apply no later than August 22, 2010; otherwise, you must apply within 30 days of your iPhone 4 purchase. To qualify for this program, you must purchase your iPhone 4 by September 30, 2010.
For existing customers who have already purchased an iPhone 4 bumper case, Apple also provides instructions. All credit card customers should already be seeing refunds, while those who paid with Cash, Check or Gift card at retail stores will need to bring their receipt back to the Apple Store.

Now does it really matter what color your iPhone is if you're gonna smother it up with a neon red case?

No.

Sent from my iPhone.

Belkin Shield Micra for iPhone 4 - Clear

Went with this one because it looked the toughest. I dropped my iphone with a case-mate thin case and the phone popped out and both are now considerably chipped on the edges...

oh and 3-5 weeks is not cool.

Ordered mine. We'll see if it takes 3-5 weeks or less. Regardless, I'm happy to get a free case even if I don't have the problem.

Tricky one this, ordered a phone on apple store yesterday, with an estimated delivery of 19th Aug, if that's delayed, i may lose out it seems on the 22 Aug deadline! Unless i find someone with an iphone 4/iOS4. It seems clever to use an app, but they should let you do it on the store as well when you've ordered your phone on the apple store.

You see? Sometimes you benefit from
Apple's screw ups.

So...

I was wondering why they did this via app instead of just through the website...

How much you wanna bet the app detects whether or not you're using an iPhone4, therefore preventing people from just going to Apple's website to apply for a free bumper when they don't even have the phone...

odd...It allows you to select and get a case even if you have been given a refund for buying one via the retail store.. think Apple need to re-think this giveaway.

Have that, been using it since launch day. It has a couple of minor issues and one major one:

1) Back of the case scratches very easy, soft plastic. Better than your phone getting scratched but in just 1-2 weeks, the back is so scratched up that you can barely even see the Apple logo through it. Kinda looks 'cruddy' too.

2) Very thin rubber pieces separate the speaker grilles from the docking port. Both have ripped already just from putting the iPhone in the dock a few times.

3) MAJOR: The plastic cutout for the camera lens renders the flash useless. I did what several other users have done and used a black sharpie to outline the flash cutout. This does help but I can still get better pictures with the phone naked than with that case.

If you have a free choice, you could choose better.

The app actually tells you that in the description.
