Does Apple compress your data or anything when backing up to iCloud, because surely a 16GB iPhone backup can't fit in, (for free) can it?

Are you entering it as xxx@me.com?

I'm getting in as xxx@gmail.com ;) I don't think the pattern for who cam get in and who can't is anything obvious.

It doesn't backup the apps, your music, or anything else apple already knows. It's mostly settings.

"I'm a real developer."

How about, "I paid $99 for beta software, but I have no idea how to develop anything."

That would be refreshing.

I get

OS X Lion or
iOS 5 Not Found

To use iCloud.com. sign in to
iCloud on either OS X Lion
or iOS 5 with this Apple ID.

but I am using 10.7.0 (Lion)

You must be a developer to have iCloud now because it requires beta software. iCloud for lion installer requires 10.7.2.

Is it me, or does this resemble the iCloud screenshot "leak" right before WWDC? All those that claimed it wasn't Apple-ish in style, how do you feel now?

Just to add to the can/can't totals, I receive the "You must use iOS5 or OS X Lion" message.

My apple ID is a @me.com address, but my me.com subscription is currently expired (hoping I can keep my appleID for iCloud email). I am a registered developer, but not part of the MAC or IOS paid dev programs.

Relax friend, people phrase things in different ways. Granted, what he said did sound a little strange, but in his defense he could have innocently been distinguishing between having paid the fee, and not. This is what I did in my post, just reversed. I pointed out that I did not yet receive the activation link, therefore I'm not a "real" developer. This snide post makes that other guys post pale in comparison.

OK everyone, I did a little experimenting, and it seems if you use the iDisk app for iOS that it knows my @me.com account is the same as my Apple ID's gmail one, could it be that Apple has started migrating accounts?

Anyway, the message "To use iCloud.com, sign in to iCloud on either OS X Lion or iOS5 with this Apple ID." I'm 99% sure means you need to sign in somewhere in the preferences app in Lion (i.e. it doesn't care if you're just using Lion as your OS when viewing the page). I can't be 100% sure, because I don't have Lion yet, or iOS5 for that matter, so no iCloud for me :( *waits for public release of iOS5*

Edit: ok seems more informed people beat me to it - you need to have logged in with the developer-only iCloud app for Lion (or set it up with iOS5). Now I'm curious how some non-developers have reported being able to get in?

(also I agree, the iOS popup message style looks silly. The rest is really nice though, if a bit heavy on bandwidth)

I can log in with my developer created account fine, and access all of the data that I uploaded to it. It also allows me to log in with my existing personal MobileMe account and give me the pop up option to "move" my data to iCloud, but then gives me the "not found" screen and does not move the data. For what it's worth, the interface is sharp and snappy ... just my two cents and adding to the pile.

Edit: Oh and I'm using Lion (atm on my friend's MBP C2D pre-unibody) and Safari, just FYI.

Why are you repeating what is already in the OP? Read the story you are commenting on. It already mentions the leak. Do you work for the Redundancy Department of Redundancy?

I don't have a setting anywhere in my preferences for iCloud, and I do have Lion. I did manage to get in and try to use the Mail app on iCloud, however I need to make an account on either iOS 5 (which I'm patiently waiting for access to) and Lion with the iCloud setting enabled. I'd go to the exact quote, except my Safari has been crashing because of the iCloud beta site (refer to my other post). The most exciting part of all this, in my opinion, is a .me address, which I've wanted for quite some time.

I could login. I had existing iWork.com, Find My iPhone, and expired MobileMe accounts.
It looks to me like Apple is taking web based apps pretty seriously.

The iCloud preferences they are referring to are for developers testing the service, currently with 10.7.2 and iCloud Beta 5 and iOS 5 Beta.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

Iwork.com redirection to iCloud.com countdown starts in 3, 2, 1...

Welcome to MacRumors.

Follow along my friend, and enjoy the forthcoming posts (a la iOS 5b) about how this (beta) broke this and disabled that. There's a reason there's a "b" after the build number, and if you've followed previous threads you'll know what I am referring to. The "how can I fix this" mantra hijacks these threads.

non-developer, i can't login with my active MobileMe account, but I can login with my active iTunes account.
So if you have an iTunes account, try that.
Not much to see there, because there is no info in my intones account, there is no email setup (well, it's no me.com address so that's logic) and it asks me if I want to buy the pages app from iOS.
But the loss of idisk even though it was unbearable slow will make me quite unhappy.
But it seems like you can upload documents. I just don't know if that are only pages/word/numbers/jkeynotes documents or that other filetypes are allowed as well.
We'll see.
