Expired MobileMe and .Mac accounts work with iCloud, and email will start working again. (.Mac accounts can connect as @me.com accounts) However, you cannot use iCloud accounts with iChat/AIM.

Thank you! I truly hope this turns out to be the case with the final release. I let my me.com account expire, waiting for the "expected" MobileMe revamp, and they cut off the ability to resub on WWDC day. My MobileMe address is also my AppleID, and I was very much hoping I could use it once again with iCloud.

So it's asking me if I want to move my Mobile Me data over to iCloud. Do you think this is wise (since it's a Beta)? Any chance my data all gets blown away? If I choose to move it, does Apple then delete my Mobile Me account (which I'm still paying for)? Is that data still available? Am I worrying too much? :)

There is no iWork of Mac iCloud because iWork on the Mac is far more advanced than the iOS versions. The iOS versions cannot translate many of the Mac features.

As for iWork on the Mac...getting very annoyed at the lack of a major update. The iOS iWork apps are nice to have, but they ARE NOT ready as a replacement.

Yeah, thats why iWork for OS X can't open iWork for iOS documents and vise versa.

Oh wait, that is completely wrong.

I'm not an OS X developer, but I do not believe you can sync documents with OS X yet (only iOS).

Essentially, this is a beta so stop jumping to conclusions.

You cannot migrate yet. iCloud is not ready for prime time. It really is in beta (and not the Google kind of beta).

It won't allow you to do it. Even if it did, I'd say wait until iCloud is no longer in beta.

Logged in with no problems

I logged in perfectly. No problems at all. And I'm not a dev. Any luck for any other of you?

For the most part current devs can't even move their MobileMe account to iCloud. We had to set up a separate account to test it out. So no, even if you do log in and try to move it won't be available. They have not implemented that yet. And to even have it working you have to have the Dev preview of 10.7.2 and the separate iCloud beta installed or the dev preview of iOS 5.

They're not keeping one (1) copy of Angry Birds for all 1,000,000 owners, they're just keeping one (1) copy of it and it doesn't take up any of your space (just like songs you've purchased from iTunes).

A problem that I see is apps that have been removed from iTunes (like VLC video player) that you can't download again. The same goes for music, ultimately you are responsible for your own backups. (But what happens with the people who buy iOS 5 devices and don't have a computer to back them up on?)

Yeah, but I have a library of 5GB of songs, only ~20 of which are bought from iTunes, the rest are CDs, Amazon, etc. So it looks like for those, like me, will have to pay $25 for iTunes Match, or $20 for an extra 5GB... I don't think I'll bother with it anyway, downloading 16GB of data on a phone restore will take days compared to a few hours via the cable

On tiger I can log in fine :D

I'm on System 7 and I can log in fine. :p

Seriously though, I tried both my Apple ID (tied to my gmail) and my old MobileMe login. The Apple ID said my information was incorrect and the MobileMe login said I needed Lion or iOS 5 (I'm on Lion). Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait.

You can still sync wirelessly with your iTunes library on a local network (e.g. at home). iTunes Match just lets you download non-iTunes Store bought music from Apple's servers. Wireless sync isn't an iCloud ability but rather an iOS 5 one.

Apple needs to KEEP the MobileMe galleries and move them over to iCloud!

I use Gallery every week to share pictures with my family. I'd rather edit my pictures and have them look nice and then publish them, rather than having an 'iCloud' duplicate of iPhone shots or whatever.

I am not a registered developer (will be soon) and was able to log in fine using my AOL email address. I do not have a .me address so when I click on Mail it says set one up but I guess I need iOS 5 for that. Oh well - I really am looking for wireless document syncing as I do a lot of writing on my MBP and read what I wrote in the bathroom on my iPad... it's a pain emailing every time or even doing dropbox.

i'm having several issues with the new iCloud domain.
- contacts are not synced correctly.
- mail web app is not opening. (this may also coincide with my iCloud mail not working in both Lion and iOS 5.)

anyone else having these issues?

They can open each others documents most of the time but the situation is not much better than in the Microsoft world. Create a document with Numbers'08 on your Mac and try to open it with Numbers on your iPad: won't work, you'll need Number'09. Or try to create a document (with Numbers'09, ie the newest version) on your Mac with merged cells (or Table fills or headers or footers) and oops, Numbers on the iPad does not support them and will remove them. Edit the document on the iPad and send it back to your Mac and all those nicely merged cells are gone.

But when you say that is all completely wrong, I must be suffering from delusions.

Mail isn't working for me either, it also never worked on Lion. Contacts work for me, though.

Can't log in. Running Snow Leopard. I tried to log in with my exipred MobileMe acct and got the "sorry, you aren't running Lion" message. Interesting that it got that far, though. I had let my MM acct expire early this spring.

I don't see your point regarding iOS iWork only being compatible with the latest version of iWork. That doesn't disprove it works with the latest version of iWork. Believe it or not, I actually have access to both versions so please don't get patronizing on me.

The fact stands that the point being made was as follows.

There is no iWork of Mac iCloud because iWork on the Mac is far more advanced than the iOS versions. The iOS versions cannot translate many of the Mac features.

Essentially, the argument was that syncing over iCloud will not work because it was falsely asserted that iWork for iOS cannot open iWork for OS X documents. This is demonstrably wrong. You can transfer documents, as you pointed out, using a variety of methods. The only ability it has lacked is syncing (which is not insurmountable). The far more likely reason is that they don't have iWork Document syncing up and running in OS X yet because they just got it up for iOS.

I'm sorry, but you seem to be spreading FUD. Either you know what you're saying (and are a troll) or don't (and are ignorant). I was going for the nicer alternative.

Aw, it requires Lion. Oh well once I'm done making trees for a videogame then I can boot into Lion and try it.

And playing on Macrumors isn't helping me get my trees made :p

Sorry, Apple is probably leaving the web hosting business. iCloud is very much aimed at syncing your stuff on your devices (quite the departure from iTools which started out being more about sharing your stuff with people). I'd suggest looking into alternatives at this point.
