Let the Yen Roll In !

I gotta question for anyone in the know- Can we use ITMS to access music from other countries ?
I am not at my machine, and can not try it - but if I were to go to say the ITMS Japan store, would I be able to download music that is available in Japan, but not the US ?

Nope. You need a billing address in the country of the music store you want to buy from.

I'm very happy for our members that live in Japan. Now you can enjoy downloading music legally. Great news for Apple. Now we get arrive at the one billion mark sooner.

Hey, anyone in Tokyo, want to buy Japanese Music store gift cards for an americain? (j-pop fan) maybe do a trade, if you want americain music, or just pay though something like paypal?

It's great that Apple has open iTMS in Japan, and, yes, they should open iTMS in Australia and New Zealand soon for all the great mac fans and potential mac fans down under. What interests me most is where will Apple go from there? Is there a commitment by Apple to open iTMS in the emerging markets of Latin America, Africa, India, China, etc.? How about those small market EU nations that are not included as yet?

Still plenty o countries to conquer.

CokeTunes

The other day, Coke launched CokeTunes in NZ. They have three major labels signed up, and are offering 500,000 songs to download fro $1.75 each, in Windows media format. Check out www.cokefridge.co.nz.

Apple misses the boat, again!

I don't think Australia and NZ will ever get the ITMS.

While I might not have chosen that metaphor, yes, there are plenty of other countries in which Apple can open iTMS. They can look at it as a game of Risk for all I care, but what looks like a poor investment today would pay huge dividends tomorrow.

What I really want, from a selfish point of view, is to be able to go to any iTMS store in the world and be able to buy local music with my credit card. Simple, music for the world; not music for a few countries.

You say it so beautifully

You gotta remember that in Japan, to buy a new album in a store is gonna cost you around $35 to $40 USD, so it's actually not bad.

Does rent equal purchase? It does for me. ^__^;

Dunno where you buy music from but here in Tokyo most imports are around 2000¥ [19$ US] and local pressing of the same album will be around 2500¥.

I have yet to pay more than that unless it is a collectors edition.

email

Heres part of an email I received this morning, hardly believe it's here.

Sure, that's for imports, but most domestic music runs about 1200 yen for a single (3 songs), and around 3000 for full album. Which works out to right about double what the same new music will cost you in the US, which is already seriously overpriced. Ain't cartels great?

Basically, the JiTMS is getting you songs at about the same comparitive discount as the US store relative to local prices, or, alternately, it's competitively priced on imports and you can get domestic releases for the price of an import. Where you really win are singles, though, which are already vastly more popular in Japan than the US (do they even do CD singles in the US anymore?).

I'm with everybody else that the whole per-country licensing system is preposterous. I can understand country-specific pricing, but country specific music? How did we let that even happen? Heck, Amazon will sell you an import CD from just about any country in the world, so why on earth won't these *IAA wastes of cubicle space let Apple do the same? I mean, seriously, how fanatical about your territory do you have to be to now allow someone to expand your market when it costs you nothing?

Oh, well, I seem to remember some carryover when the Euro-iTMSes first opened, so perhaps we'll get some of the same this time.

Except it doesn't let you into the site, it just tells you that you need Windows. I also can't find a link to contact them.

Hot damn- FINALLY it's here in Japan!!

I'm DLing an album now, and it's sloooooooooooow. Must be everyone else in Japan doing the same thing.

I got a bunch of 504 errors earlier

You're joking right? Maybe for "USED SOFT" you can get an album for 2000yen. I recently paid 1600 yen for the SMILEY single! 2 songs + karaoke versions.

You can't possibly be correct. (But if you are, I'm going to need the store names you use.)

Did you buy SMILY for yourself, by the way? :D

If you can get your hands on a Japanese iTMS gift card, and any Japanese home address to say that you live at, you should be able to use it just fine. My girlfriend lives in Japan, and did that to use the US store.

Yeah I bought it for myself... For a while it was super popular and playing everywhere-- It's pretty catchy.. But wow-- It has NO lasting value.

Until someone gives me some proof-- I'm still maintaining my earlier statements on music prices.

itunes japan in australia

i have noticed something very strange. ever since the japan store has opened, and i go to the itunes music store tab in itunes, i go to the itunes japan site. the only twist is that i live in australia. is there a reasonable explanation for that? just some random interesting fact :p

Africa?

Not that it really matters to me at all, but why isn't there an iTMS in any African countries yet?
