You don't know how genuinely thrilled I am. Being Irish and living in Ireland, I've been lusting after some way to consume video content digitally - I don't have a dvd player, and would rather watch my films ('or movies' to you yanks ;)) on my iPod, iPad or PC. And now I can. Huzzah!

What I'd really like in the UK store is the ability to buy and rent HD films from my computer, not just through an iPad or Apple TV.

You can... I have rented and bought films from the iTunes UK store in both SD and HD using my Mac.

Sorry - what HD films are for sale on the UK store ? I've been chomping at the bit to download HD Films on my Mac (as opposed to TV) for ages.

Finally!

Jaysus! Finally! We were beginning to feel like a third-world country here. (Although, with this recession, we're not far off - thank you, America!)

Maybe we'll only have to wait another 5 years to get a feckin' (no, that's not a curse word) Apple Store too! I mean, we do manufacture the Mac Pro here - albeit in Cork!

The USA rentals expire 24 hours after you start viewing, not 48 hours...

The problem with 24 is that you can't split watching a movie into two evenings - unless you start earlier on the second night. If you have a routine of putting the kids down, and starting up a movie for an hour or so at a specific time, you're screwed.

For a lark, last week I sent sjobs an email asking for them to consider at least 26 hours for this specific reason. Maybe he listened. :)

MadCow.

+4 (me, my wife and 2 kids)
this 24 hour deal has pretty much kept me from using the service. A 72 hour window would be ideal, just like the rental stores.

Still on dial-up in this part of France so .... but 4€ for a film? FFS. That's half a SMIC! When I lived in London I could go to the Prince Charles Cinema for a pound and see it on a big screen. Without the high street overheads this should be appreciably cheaper than the high street and it's not.

Grats!

Congratulations to our Irish and French friends. I'm sure it's been a long wait for Apple and the iTunes store to get content deals sorted.

It as been a long wait. Now we have it, I'm not sure what to do with it. Bought Avatar but can only watch on mbp. Suppose I'll have to stump up for ATV now

Once again, there's no Apple love for The Netherlands/Belgium. I feel left out and abandoned.

I start to think that we'll never see this iTunes feature here..

My problem with blu-ray is:

1) It's just another format upgrade that is designed to get you to go out and buy the same films/etc all over again.

2) Most home bb conections just aren't up to it. It'll be 2 or 3 years before the connection speed required is standard enough that it's worth Apple's while offering that hi definition content.

With an adapter, you can hook up your MBP to your TV to watch. With your iTunes account, you can transfer your purchases onto other devices you own.

Personally, I only rent movies from iTunes, and if I want to buy a movie, then I'll buy a Blu-Ray, which also comes with a digital copy.

If the Apple TV was a lot cheaper, then I would be more inclined to purchase movies from iTunes. But as of right now, I'm not going to pay that much for a little box which only use to me would be to rent/buy movies from iTunes. Apple started going in the right direction with the Apple TV, but it needs to be A LOT cheaper. Like half of it's current price. Or, another option would be to create an iTunes for the PS3, XBox 360, etc. I have a PS3, which I don't use for games, but only for movies and tv shows. With the Blu-Ray player and easily upgradeable harddrive (I installed a 320GB), there is a far greater value in the PS3, than the similarily priced Apple TV. If I could get iTunes on my PS3, then my world would rock.

Sounds daft but I hadn't thought of the adapter to hook up mbp to tv. Exactly what one do I need to get from Apple store

What I'd like to see is HD movies to own rather than just rent - it's long overdue.

Are they available in the US?

+1 The US store has had HD movie purchases for a while. Even though we can rent HD movies in the UK, we can't purchase which is so incredibly frustrating! I can even buy HD TV shows, I just cant buy a HD movie! This is SO overdue.... :(

Yea, Need French in Québec

What about Québec? Yes I know we already got movies too. But so far there's no sign of any french offerings or even french audio tracks or at least french subtitles. Region 1 DVDs often have both of those, why can't the movies in the iTunes Store also have them?

...

This is frustrating because Steve Jobs when he announced Movies for Itunes presented a Multitrack presenting "Ratatouille". If I remember good that was ... 2 years ago, that was what decided me to buy this Apple TV.

Now the French are getting it. But Sarcastically, those guys across the ocean are not Happy they want Original voices with French Subtitles. Anyway, hope this is a step in the right direction.

My hopes are not out yet, not yet.

Meabe we should email Steve Jobs what was his email again ?

None. He's got it wrong... You CANT purchase HD movies from the UK iTunes store... Sadly :(

That was my other point aswell, which I forgot - the Netherlands do not have an Apple Store. its a (feckin' :p ) SHAME!

The Autorized resellers are nice though , but I want the real thing.
