Seems like Apple did not forget about the professional market. Now I hope they will release Aperture X very soon, it is long overdue.

Perhaps a very stupid question, but anyone know how to purchase an upgrade if the original app was not bought from the App Store. I've been a LP user for 15 years and am so excited to get this upgrade!!!

Mac App Store apps don't have discounts or upgrade pricing for previous version owners, you just buy the new version at the full price.

I'm curious how many non-musicians buy Logic Pro just to play around with while having dreams of being the next deadmau5. Especially with it being a hella cheaper than software like Ableton Live.

Yes!

I started with Logic Pro a few months ago and started noticing its destiny was uncertain. Did some research, which leads me to my post bottom line ..

How did they managed to keep it so quiet? I actually spent hours trying to find believable/serious/"official" rumors and COULD NOT!

Wuhu!

This is awesome news! I will probably snag this at some point. My Eastwest collection is getting lonely since I've been off in 3D land for awhile.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the dark interface. I'm so glad more programs are switching to that. Its so much easier on the eyes especially on Apple's LED screens. (I was getting headaches using Houdini until I learned how to customize that.)

I just bought Logic Pro 9 a few months back :'(

Well that version should be stable. I would wait a few months or more before switching to the new version if I was going to use it in a professional setting. Let any bugs be worked out and other users find any missing or subpar features.

Just reading the system requirements on the app store and it says

"Requires 64-bit Audio Units plug-ins"

I am assuming 32-bit plugins no longer function then...

EDIT: Confirmed

Sweet, now to contemplate whether it's worth the upgrade over my 9-disc Logic Studio pack.

My only complaint is that it forces 10.8.4

A release compatible in 10.7.5 would have been wonderful for all the people still straddling the fence.

$200. Amazing. For those people that just bought v9 for $200... it's still a deal.

Allegedly this opens projects from v5 and on? I'll believe it when I see it working.

Still, happy to see development. Looking forward to see if all the score features work in 64 bit..and if they've mimicked DP with this "arrangement markers" feature. I sure hope so.

Interesting, their website still shows Logic Pro 9 and Main Stage 2.

----------

Definitely not getting it anytime soon, well, not until I get a new laptop with Mountain Lion or later already installed.

----------

What the heck? I just bought Logic Pro 9 over the weekend :(

Contact Apple, they may help you out.

Skeuomorphism

It's disappointing to see that this brand new, redesigned release from Apple is loaded full of excessive, gratuitously Skeuomorphic UI elements. And Main Stage is even worse!

Given that Apple have clearly shown that they're moving away from Skeuomorphism in a big way elsewhere, it seems like Apple's left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing these days. Another sign of a failing company?

Do audio apps really need to look like analogue mix boards from the 1980s for people to understand them? No. And plenty already do not.

Call me a miser, but I see shades of FCP X on this one.

First, note that Logic Pro 9 is now gone from the app store, as if X is just another version rather than a dramatically changed app.

Second, note the "upload to soundcloud" feature -- what does that tell you about the target demographic?

Third, note the lack of info (even in the reviews!) about things like video handling, OMF import, and basic MIDI functions, in favour of bragging about new "amazing" features that will make life SOO much easier and keep all those complicated settings out of your way. Ugh.

I'm sure Logic retains most of the nuts and bolts features that make it a workhorse, but the general vibe I'm getting is "Garage Band Pro." And I don't like it.

I wonder if the environment is still available as a page.

Looking forward to more in-depth reviews.

Jim Dalrymple has posted a video on YouTube showcasing the new Drummer feature:

You haven't even tried it and are already referring to it as a "Garage Band Pro" app? Logic Pro is quite a deep app, and I'm quite sure that none of that deepness has been omitted. Do you really think there's room in a press release for all of the technical details? Why not try it first for a month and then complain if there's still cause?

Two complaints:

1) Requires 10.8.4 (I still prefer Snow Leopard)

2) Requires 64-bit AU plugins

They couldn't keep the AU 32-64 bridge in there? But, at the same time, plugin makers need to finally produce 64-bit versions of their plugs.

I'm guessing this means Logic Express is dead, in favour of Garage Band. Pity, as it was far more capable than GB, and far more affordable than Pro.

Good observation but it also says 100% backward compatibility with no features removed. That's massively reassuring and certainly :apple: have clearly avoided another final cut x debacle.

Yes, Snow Leopard users are in trouble, I'm guessing it will still work on an older OS just not supported? Should work on Lion at least. How does Logic 9 only open projects from v6 onward and logic X from v5? Strange.

So very excited to download.

I'm looking at the UI and I'm not seeing the large amount of skeuomorphic elements. If you're referring to having a picture of a guitar to show that it's the guitar track... that's not really what skeuomorphism is. If they used brushed metal, knobs, and plug-in holes to mimic a mixing deck on your screen... then yeah, I would consider THAT an example.

EDIT: Eh, I might be changing my mind. There's faders, profile heads, etc. You might have a point. ^_^

Isn't $199 the same price as Logic Express was? Why the pity then? Unless Logic X is so much more complicated to use somehow.
