It 's worth pointing out that before Apple moved Logic to the MAS, it was several hundred dollars -- $699? Logic Express, the cut down version, and the upgrade were both around the $199 mark.

So even if you bought Logic 9 from the store, and have to buy it again, you're paying the "upgrade" price. It's a ridiculously good deal.

As for the difference between a drummer and a drum machine -- you only have to tell the drum machine once. Ay thang yow.

I'm sure you can call support and work something out. They'll probably give you a free download code for Logic Pro X. Apple is pretty flexible about these things. Same went for OSX. Just remember, be nice and calm on the phone and they'll help :)

I just did this. I bought on Friday night and they refunded my purchase of 9.

Call me a miser, but I see shades of FCP X on this one.

First, note that Logic Pro 9 is now gone from the app store, as if X is just another version rather than a dramatically changed app.

Second, note the "upload to soundcloud" feature -- what does that tell you about the target demographic?

Third, note the lack of info (even in the reviews!) about things like video handling, OMF import, and basic MIDI functions, in favour of bragging about new "amazing" features that will make life SOO much easier and keep all those complicated settings out of your way. Ugh.

I'm sure Logic retains most of the nuts and bolts features that make it a workhorse, but the general vibe I'm getting is "Garage Band Pro." And I don't like it.

Sounds like you are living in dinosaur land, the future is user generated content not "professional" generated content. Welcome to 2013. Welcome to the internet.

It's disappointing to see that this brand new, redesigned release from Apple is loaded full of excessive, gratuitously Skeuomorphic UI elements. And Main Stage is even worse!

Given that Apple have clearly shown that they're moving away from Skeuomorphism in a big way elsewhere, it seems like Apple's left hand has no clue what the right hand is doing these days. Another sign of a failing company?

Do audio apps really need to look like analogue mix boards from the 1980s for people to understand them? No. And plenty already do not.

This is one case where skeumorphic is not such a bad thing. Especially around building a drum kit. And the virtual drummer profiles are hilarious.

they have just stolen tons of ideas from Ableton from what i can see...

Oh please, virtually none of these new features are even available in Ableton Live let alone stolen.

You want things to be complicated? Good for you! :D

I bet 90% of the people would love to have their workflow streamlined.

That's just offensive, thank you very much!

Really? I've made much worse jokes at drummers' expense, that one was a little tame by my standards. Not intended for any offence though, I know many drummers and it's become somewhat of a tradition.

Didn't mean to offend though, sorry if it came across that way. :)

That exactly is the reason why it took them so long to release Logic X.

After the disaster with FCP they probably started from scratch again to avoid pissing off another group of pro users again...

There is no way Apple started from scratch on Logic. Apple is rewriting these Apps from the ground up, which is a time consuming process. The only mistake Apple made with Final Cut X is to not communicate to users it was a work in progress all while removing the old Final Cut Pro.

Aperture X next please

Film makers, musicians and photographers are all covered. What about something for the graphic designers, publishers and web developers. A new software called "Design Pro X" intended to offer a viable and cheaper alternative to Adobe's Creative Suite/Cloud.

Add in iWork X to compete with Office and I'd be a happy bunny.

I have some questions and maybe some of you know:

Will all the functions run decently on a 13" rMBP?

Can I download the additional content to an external drive? I don't want to clutter my SSD with it but would like to have it anyways.

Cheers

Hmm.. I wonder what Apple's take on Dreamweaver would be. Gawd, anything to replace that horrible, but seeming industry standard, piece of software. It's like web designers enjoy the daily punishment.

So will I still be able to use my Apple Loops from Logic Studio 8 in Logic X, like I have been able to with Logic 9?

I'm not a Logic user but I hope this means Aperture X is next and soon.

Same here, and while i still can't get make the jump over to FCPX, this seems like a nice update to Apple's DAW. I really hope to see Aperture X take on MUCH of the UI improvements we're seeing in FCPX and LPX. I use LR professionally, but keep my personal stuff in Aperture.

I haven't dug deep, but will FCPX be able to roundtrip into LPX and sync timecode, codecs, etc.?

Yes!

If possible, with catalog migration from Lightroom.

I am a LR user through and through but I'd rather have Apple keep it's organization structure and features. I still think LR needs to take a page out of the book of Apple on that one.

I just bought my dad enough iTunes vouchers to cover him buying Logic... he was going to do it yesterday but said he'd wait until this evening.

He's gonna be happy he did! :)

And one of the best features, stops all the annoying "they're going to ruin it like FCX" comments.
