So we gained a new processor, laminated display, bigger screen, to pencil support which means nothing to me. Generous update to say the least

Lost: quad speakers, pro motion, camera flash, 4K

Now I’m wondering which one to update to? Air or the Pro still...

The iPad Product Lineup is getting more confusing by the minute...
It's worse than that, it's like putting two 7-Eleven's on opposite street corners. You end up competing against yourself and at worse you give the consumer so many choices they just throw their hands up in confusion and don't buy a thing.

iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, iPad Mini.

Not hard to follow...
There should be 3 models - the mini, the Air and the Pro. That makes things much easier to understand. The Mini, Air and Pro titles tell customers exactly what to expect from the product.

Apple’s laptop range should be the same but instead you have both the MacBook and the Air taking up the same space.

i'd definitely agree that these different models are becoming confusing. from left to right: iPad Mini, iPad, iPad Air, iPad Pro.

if somebody asked which iPad to buy I wouldn't even know where to begin. good luck?

At least they all support the 1st gen pencil now. iPad mini if you want something small, iPad if you want something larger, but lacks latest tech, iPad Air if you want latest tech but not Pro price.

They should drop the price of the iPad to $299. I guess they have a lot to cover in the event coming up if they decided to release these products about a week early.

For the person who lives, eats and sleeps Apple products, sure. But for the average consumer it might be a bit too much. Then of course you have to deal with all the different configurations and sizes (5 different sizes) not including Wifi and Cellular of each model trying to figure out the sweet spot only to realize Apple has tweaked things in such a way to make you spend more money to have an acceptable product. I found that out just trying to configure a 2018 Mac Mini.

It's clear that marketing has gone totally bonkers at Apple along with design. Incredibly lazy very very old design that should have been laid to rest and that damn 'Air' name reappearing.
Total lack of direction.
With the beautiful design of the iPad Pro, this old and very dated design needed to go.
Nice try Apple at trying to sell this old timer but c'mon, you're insulting your customers.

So will there be a 10.2? What do you think, and if so what do you think would be the difference, an A11, to keep the $329 price?

Like the laptop lineup, MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, now iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Air. Oh, and iPad mini. What happened to the simple product matrix?
iPad/iPad Air/iPad Pro
Good/Better/Best
9.7”/10.5/11.0
$329/499/799

Lightest=MacBook
Cheapest=MacBook Air
Fastest=MacBook Pro

Why do you want fewer choices? Three is too many, you only want two models? Two makes sense but three is way too complicated ? Or do you just think customers aren’t smart enough to decide between three models?

I really don’t get it.

Re: the simple product matrix, that’s what allowed Apple to avoid going out of business. At that time, they had dozens of similar (or identical with different names) overlapping models that even Apple couldn’t keep straight.

On a Monday? Wow!

I see why they have the naming scheme now, it now aligns with the Mac lineup a little better. Both have Pros, Airs, Minis, and a regular model (macbook/ipad). Don't ask me about the iMac and how it fits in here!

4 speakers now cost $800.

Dual speakers make a world of difference on a smartphone and tablet. I never connect my iPad to speakers. I use it all around my house, hotel rooms, etc.

you literally just said you bought a 10.5 iPad Pro with quad speakers for $550. So yeah 5 fricking 50. I realize that doesn't support your complaint as much. But got to love the irony of a person that provides the data to refute their position but then ignores it. Hey, you wouldn't be a trump fan would you?

I use real speakers even when I travel and definitely around my house. Any speaker that small just sounds tinny to me. But I grew up listening to real speakers. But I get it, you like to use your iPad like its a boom box. I hope you dont do that in public.

I did it in just the nick of time :)

Glad those people from there are not coming out of the wood work and glad I didn't get a offer from someone from there.

There is a lot to be said for keeping legacy ports around. Apple really took it on the chin when they moved from the dock connector to lighting. I don't think moving away from the old design is a good move for the "average" iPad. People probably have a handful of chargers, an adapter to connect it to their TV, etc. Moving the base iPad and the iPad Air to USB will force a lot of people to get new adapters, etc.

I think this 10.5 with the Apple Smart Keyboard gives a lot of people the Pro experience without the price tag. This is great for people that take notes, write, etc. The new iPad Pros are overkill for a lot of people.

I really like the new 10.5.

I think this is a consequence of trying to appeal to as many different price points as possible, combined with the general inability to customise your iPad’s specs.

With a Mac (or any PC), you can adjust the price by changing features such as your processor speed, amount of ram, storage space.

The ipad is more or less fixed (save for storage space). So the only way to adjust its price is by offering a separate product with different specs.

So in a sense, the seemingly more convoluted ipad lineup is due to the simplicity of the ipad.

Seems like a solid update, though the iPad line is becoming a bit confusing for the average consumer who doesn’t follow this stuff.

Still, I sadly wanted an A12 iPod touch. :(

NO.

I said I bought an iPad Pro 10.5" last year for $550. Quad speakers will now cost you $800. Work on your reading comprehension.

Trump? WTF are you talking about?

Wow, congrats on your 'real speakers'. Most people don't exclusively connect their iPad's to speakers for all usage. And no, I never said I use it as a boom box. I often watch videos on my iPad in any room in my house and I rely on my excellent quad speakers. It makes a world of difference compared to dual speakers. I never use my iPad speakers in public. I literally said at home and in hotel rooms.

Did you really expect new airpods to be released without being seen at an event first,
Right? People are disappointed that the thing they want wasn't released during a release that happened before they woke up on products they didn't know were getting updated this morning.

Still using touch ID and lightning connector?!?!?!?!?!?!?
There are iPads available with face ID and usb-c. They actually have been available for quite some time now. So let me guess....youre just here to whine and complain??????!!?!?!?!

I have my Air 2 and I'm not very happy with it anymore. The new Air is a great update. Just ordered it. Will ask my mom too if she wants the new mini. :D
