Does A10 Fusion = A10X Fusion? Or is there a difference...
Curious if leaving out the "X" means the chip will be any different from the iPad Pros.
Thoughts?
Yea, there is a difference. It's not as fast, which is probably why they didn't show any comparison figures (at least, I didn't see any).

Depends on what you're studying... I took written notes exclusively on my Surface Pro 3 during my last year of my engineering degree. STEM fields benefit greatly from the pencil, not just graphic design.

Sure but wouldn’t you prefer to type an essay on a physical keyboard rather than the software based touch keyboard on a tablet?

I guess my point is unless you’re a graphic design or art student you’re most likely going to have to produce typed document the majority of the time.

I’ve never seen a bigger bunch of cry babies. Apple didn’t televise the keynote.. because it’s for a niche market... this is not about the power house iPads this is about the education sector... yet and still we hear the whining and crying “it’s to expensive” “google chrome does this for less than 300” well Jesus people lol

Apple totally screwed the pooch with this new iPad. I’m not sure why, but this is MacRumors so it needs to be said loudly and often. \s

Apple Pencil is showing as £89 now on the UK store. Wasn’t it £99 before?

Edit: Poster above answered my question before I asked it. :)

This will be a huge hit. One can get the Logitech Crayon for $49, and the case and keyboard for $99. The capability of having access to a growing number of education AR apps is essential and something Chromebook PCs and Tablets can’t provide. Through in the Swift Playground now with the AR module and this iPad really differentiates itself.

How did they do that?

A new iPad mini would be better for schools

I think it would be too small for any sort of content creation.

I wonder if this has the laminated display.

To retain the $329.00 price point the 2017 9.7 iPad did, I highly doubt this new 9.7 iPad with Apple Pencil support has the laminate display Included.

The air gap would massively worsen the experience with the Apple Pen. I see your point but I really hope it's laminated.

These were my thoughts as well. Looks like the same dimensions as the 2017 iPad (7.5mm thickness), so assuming no laminated display. I wonder how that will feel to draw on with the Pencil.

Hmm...

Two thoughts, mostly related:
  • I'm a huge fan of using the apple pencil for notes. This is great that the apple pencil is basically supported across the line (sorry iPad mini). I know lots of people who saw me use the iPad + pencil this way, wished they could have the same setup, but gave up the idea when they realized it meant buying the expensive iPad Pro plus a $100 stylus. A few years out, all people who already have recent iPads would need is the $100 pencil now to get on board- still expensive, but not unreachable.
  • That said, why did they bother releasing the previous $329 iPad with no Pencil support, a relatively short while ago, if they were going to go this direction anyway?

I think all the usual haters took the morning off of work

Genuinely curious why the Apple Pencil is now at £89 In the UK and still $99 in the US.

Edit: Question answer by Haydn.

Good to see Apple adjusted UK pricing based on improved currency conversions... not! Remains about 10-15% overpriced even taking into account taxes.

That's a fair question- I wonder is the non laminated display easier to replace the glass on? On our 9.7 Pros Apple will not repair damaged displays. They replace the whole iPad. If it's an easier repair that makes it easier on the school than the better looks of the laminated display.

Even a laptop can be less than ideal for certain kinds of projects compared to a desktop workstation.
Yeah, I changed jobs recently and went from a 2017 27" 5K iMac that was pretty well decked out to a 2015 MacBook Pro 15". I swear I'm not anywhere near as productive now. Half the RAM, half the SSD speed, and half the screen real-estate. And the external display is only a 1080p crappy Dell so I never use it. But hey, a 25% raise is a 25% raise. I'm half considering just buying an iMac for myself to use at work because I'd still come out ahead. I think they're on a four year computer upgrade cycle though, so I should be eligible to upgrade in autumn 2019. Sigh…

IOS for schools a missed opportunity. Chrome OS, litterly zero local schools resources needed and locked down so local users ability to mess with the system or app tightly controlled. IOS, way to much management of the iPad in comparrison.

Is £20 cheaper for all models compared to 2017; not sticking up for Apple here but at least they lowered prices in the light of (only slightly better) conversion rates.
