Tech specs don’t say anything about it having a laminated display. Thickness and weight are same as before so my take is NO laminated display. :(

Gotta agree with you there. I've stood near some conversations in the Apple Store and listened as buyers-to-be try to understand a salesperson's questions about which version of which device they want to get.

"I'd like to get an iPhone!"
"Great! Which model?"
"Uh, the new one."
"We just released the 8, 8 Plus, and the X."
"Oh, ok. What's the difference?"
"Well, blah blah blah blah blah...."
[eyes glaze over] "I guess I'd like the X Plus."

Um. What hardware does Amazon make?

Amazon makes smart home devices like the echo, smart TV sticks and boxes. and also make tablets such as the Fire tab and Kindles

So in the U.K. this new iPad and the Apple Pencil could cost students £430... you can buy a half decent Windows laptop for that?!?!

But I see they have left it to Logitech to sell a cheaper stylus at $49, no idea what that’ll be in pounds sterling, but a damn site better value then Apple being cheap and knocking only $10 of the Apple Pencil for students!

As cool as all the creation demos were, the most practical announcement of the event was probably reminding the world that iWork still exists. Pages got an update but how exactly does Apple want students to input text? With an onscreen keyboard?

The Smart Connector is a great port. My Smart Keyboard snaps right into place and detaches with ease. Give students a more rugged smart keyboard to pair with the new iPad and you've got a workstation that Apple Barb would love. But without a keyboard connector then students are going to use 3rd party keyboards (or more likely... no keyboard) and now the whole EDU experience is crippled.

What’s the point of iWork in a MS Office world? Pages is good and all, but Excel beats Numbers multiple times.

Still really wish they were releasing a mini w/ pencil support but I think that dream is dead. Thsi is great for schools though. I think I may pick it up as well.

Starting to think a refurb Air 2 32Gb is the sweet spot. Sure slower chip but better display and also cheaper.

My Air 2 still runs flawlessly, however, I would not invest one at this point. I would take advantage of this new 9.7 with A10 fusion processor and the display will be much brighter over the Air 2. But, the Air 2 also includes the laminate display, which the 2018 9.7 model does not.

I think that Nadella will soon be aggressive in the edu market, especially now that Apple rised its white flag.

I’d argue that, as a student, being able to use and attach an Apple Smart Keyboard with an iPad is a lot more useful than support for an Apple Pencil which isn’t even included in the still premium price of a lower end iPad.

That being said, even though we have mostly Apple products, my teenager’s 2 year old asus Chromebook still does everything she needs it to do and has 0 support for any type of stylus AND costs less than $300 brand new.

Is this specifically for graphic design schools?
I see this as a step in the direction of electronic worksheets/workbooks. It is astounding how much schools spend on photocopying and workbooks. Teachers also have to manage all those sheets of paper. Finally, the student has a way of looking up if a worksheet has/hasn’t been turned in.

So I have an iPad Air 2. It still works great. I do use my iPhone 8+ with 256GB more. This doesn't excite me to upgrade really.

I think I'll wait to see what they do with the iPad Pros. My concern is that I use my iPad for internet, to access my personal info files, and for social media. It just seems that the iPad Pro is probably overkill for my use. I'll never use the pencil, and frankly, I can just use the keyboard from my iMac, and I even have a spare one of those to use.

A question. For my use, would it be a dumb move to buy the current iPad Pro once the new ones are announced, or will I be way behind the technology curve?

Missed the boat, the iPad Mini was ripe to be re-purposed as the educational device for children, could have been 249 and a bundle that included a smaller Apple pencil and keyboard (with multiple colours) for 299. 16GB storage per device, 10GB cloud per account, unlimited education institution storage.

Ruin the 9.7 with a non laminated display and cannibalize 10.5 sales at the same time. Mistake.

The last time I checked on flash storage - early 2017, the lowest storage was 32GB that is manufactuered. It cost $12 in quantity of 10K lots and $8 in 100K+.

Oh yeah, the Echo/Dot sales portals (toilet paper) and TV stick sales portal (Amazon Prime) and tablet sales portals (cut-rate books).

So which of them run either Office or iWork?

$30 cheaper? Doesn't sound like much of a push into education. if a school couldn't afford iPads at 329 why would 30 dollars make a difference

Trailing behind the $329 Google Acer ChromeOS tablet, ~$270 Galaxy Tab A with Pen and ~$150 2017 Amazon Fire HD 10. Biggest cons of iPad is the toyish iOS, no mouse support, no full IDE for coding and no Crouton Linux mode for getting students prepared for the real world.

As a parent I’d appreciate having access to these worksheets as well.

Good point. Especially when if you want a job at a good accounting/data firm you had better be able to use Excel without a mouse.

Yep. Excel (and even Access if you ask me) is definitely a winner. It’s just a great product.

The iPad lineup looks great, until you see the old A8 mini.
Please Apple, is it so difficult to just refresh the mini with an A10 and Apple Pencil support as well?
At least A11! The A10 is not that impressive anymore. A11,would be good for another three years or more too!

When is best buy getting these? It felt like they were selling them asap last year. I got some coupons that expire at the end of the month.

Looks like the answer is not soon enough since delivery dates on Apple's site are early April. pre-orders though are possible I suppose.
