Pricing would likely be a factor in all of that.
As it would be for Macs one would suppose. So maybe the price differential is larger with iPads than with Macs (at least in relative terms, less likely in absolute terms) or ... the value proposition of Macs vs Windows PCs is better than the value proposition of iPads vs non-Apple tablets.

----------

I think you meant 'likely' not 'lightly'

You make a good point and then ignore it.

The iPad already does what it is supposed to do. And the people who were supposed to buy it did. So who is left. No one. We are done.

You seem to be describing some future device. Please tell me more.

The Mac is getting people switching from PCs, why isn't the iPad getting them as well?

Let's be brutally honest here for a moment.
People who choose Apple to start with, are not going to be THE most computer literate people anyway.
I know this is going to upset many me saying it, but let's be honest with ourselves.
People who love tech, love computers, and going to be more PC based.
Apple focuses their products on the typical consumer who just wants something easy to use for their internet and social/photo work.
They've aimed at this market for years now.

I'm highly offended. I am very computer literate in every aspect including Hardware and Software. I design apps for Windows, Android, iOS, and OS X.
This is the most ignorant comment I've seen this week.

Why is this even an issue of memory? Geez, I used to have like 20 tabs open at once on my iMac G5 with 512MB of RAM, no problem.
There is no swapping memory out to disk in iOS (probably because 'disk' space on iOS device is at a high premium). So, when the device runs out of RAM, it can only delete the content of currently used RAM to keep functioning.

Then there is the question how much of that 512 MB of RAM back then when you were using your iMac G5 was needed for the OS itself vs how much RAM the OS (and also other commonly used apps) needs on iOS today.

One might wonder what Piggie is posting this from: His iPad or his PC (and why he or she would be posting on MacRumors if using a PC).

Everything changes with iPad.

1536*2048 display
Sweet desktop class 64bit chip
2GB of RAM

Start typing an email and can't attach a couple of iWork created files. Good grief.

I agree completely with this. It's incredibly annoying that a basic task like attaching multiple files to an email is still so difficult in iOS.

With iPhones now available with larger displays, the iPad becomes increasingly pointless.

Perhaps there are quite few things Apple could do with iPad.
As an owner of multiple iPads, which now are used by almost everyone in our household, they are fine tablets and exactly what they are designed for. Since they are not Windows based touch PCs, iOS for iPads has its own advantages and also shortcomings.

Selection of text, precision is really important. Working with big chunks of text makes selection, copy and paste, etc cumbersome and really limits its usefulness. I do like touch but I need at least cursor arrows or something to make the text selection easier done than now. Sensitivity levels are important for graphics and photo and everything else. I guess new Force Touch if used on iPads, will bring sensitivity levels. Simultaneous multitasking is a must on larger screen iPads, otherwise working on iPad is a very tough experience, and I don't mean music playing when you type something by multitasking.

So there are many things Apple should do to make its newer iPads compelling to upgrade. So far, in iPhones, it was primiarily changes in hardware that drove sales. Limited changes in iPad hardware limited sales. If Apple wants to sell more, its got to change its hardware (introduce Pro line, or increase mini's displays), stereo speakers would be nice (Beats?), change the software and so on. If Apple got specialized iPad team, its gotta work better. Generally, they should aim for something that really can replace MS Surface; both software and hardrware wise.

Waiting for Ipad Pro

Not interested in the air , curious to see if there will be some sort of ios and mac os hybrid in the Pro.

IT's the odd man out. Third wheel.

Rather get a new computer or phone before I get an ipad. I still have the Ipad 2 and haven't used it in months.

The bigger screen is nice to have vs an iPhone, but who is really going to spend $500 just for that and carry 2 devices around every where? Or even worry about where your iPad is if you have your phone in your pocket.

Typing on it sucks. Even worse than using a phone. I find thumb typing on the phone faster.

I really think the iPad should be priced more like an accessory to the iPhone because that's what it is for me. Maybe it just needs to be a screen with only enough cpu to stream stuff from your iPHone and/or directly from the internets. IT needs to be a chromebook in other words. Those are sub-$200.

Or it needs to replace the computer and as others have said it can't do that yet and is too annoying to do that.

PLus computers, since the intro of the iPad, have stepped up and now offer nicer higher res screens, fast boot up and app launching because of ssds and are lighter than ever and don't really weigh more than an iPad with a keyboard. Thus much of the advantage the iPad briefly had over computers is gone. And then computers are much more flexible and even with 128gb storage in an Apple laptop is 8x that of an entry level Ipad. Plus you get the keyboard too. and ports! And slots maybe. etc. And Apple has made the Mac more iPad-like on the software side as well.

I mentioned Chromebooks earlier. They have to be hurting tablets. They do alot of the stuff tablets are used for and yet are much cheaper and have a keyboard. And Google manages the thing. It's always up to date and ready to go.

Any link to WWDC's epicentre of change tag line?

Everything changes with iPad. So iPad as centre of change, epicentre of change a head nod to an iPad focus at WWDC? WWDC tag line vague enough to cover all the other stuff and changes that will be going on there.

I will get an iPad mini when they update it next time. I'm not sure which version I will get however. I plan on using this outside quite a bit so it would be nice to have the anti-reflection coating

Yeah, if you're comparing Mac users vs Linux or BSD users. I don't think Windows users are any more computer literate. Actually, they're probably less on average because that includes a ton of schools.

And just because Apple makes their OS easier to use doesn't mean they're targeting the non-techie crowd. Everything in Windows seems to be a "wizard," only they often do a bad job of it and end up making things harder. Doesn't make it the pro OS.

I've seen many posts even here, on the tech site, where some Apple users have admitted to hardly touching their laptops since getting iPads, and this is a very tech area.

Tablets users are a subset of a subset.

I'm being very general I know and many exceptions to the rule.

I just wish Apple had more balls, and did not continually worry about one product may take sales from another product.
Or just take the tablet seriously.

Nope.
I am BY FAR the most tech savvy person I know...
So let me anecdote you:
I'm around new tech daily... I sell cellular phones & fix Windows computers for a living. I'm not super collegiate, but I do have an AA in Business Computer Systems, with an emphasis on networking. I have my ccna & mcse. I work on computers and phones every day...
My son and I have Macs, iPads, & iPhones. The iPhone/iPad trend extends to literally everyone in my extended family, and pretty much everybody else I have intimate contact with... We love the ecosystem. We can all take calls or continue texts from any device, etc.
My friends/family look to me to help make their tech purchase decisions & I've I've always proudly backed Apple products.
Honestly, Apple IS what tech-savvy people use. You are simply wrong.

Possibly the least inspirational apple ad ever...and the longest two minutes of my life! Anyone arguing the ipad is a toy would find lots of aminition here--how much finger drawing and cartoon play can you take. Great for content creation, if your in grades k -4

Don't be offended. a) s/he left a loophole by saying that there are exceptions, b) it's Piggie. Apple does everything wrong, the users are idiots and all that (except for exceptions of course). Doesn't really matter, dull provocations (under the pseudo-protection of "but I'm right, I'm right!!!"), coming from someone who really does say "should of"...so really... it's low level entertainment.

Honestly, Apple IS what tech-savvy people use. You are simply wrong.

I think its likely the case apple computer users draw from both highly technical users and self identifying not techs ("it just works"). The vast middle funnels into the windows market. The defensiveness about the poster characterization is amusing

Apple should make a real tablet computer: a Mac tablet. Much as Microsoft Surface. Because iOS is a toy and not fully compatible with the Mac.

How can I attach a file when forwarding a mail to another address?

It is impossible! These are basic tasks.

And: Please open the File System. Or at least give Apps (Like File App, Briefcase Pro etc.) the ability to show its file contents to other apps.

Until the iPad has some functionality that my 6+ doesn't, there is no reason to upgrade my iPad 3. Honestly, the iPhone 6+ really made it questionable whether there is a reason for me to have an iPad in the first place when there is no real difference in the OS. Oh, except for the fact the iPad still doesn't have a calculator.

Exactely. This is the reason I got rid of my iPad. I read books on my 6+ no problem.

That's true but then again why are Mac sales flourishing? That's a product you shouldn't have to constantly replace.

<snip>.

The Mac is converting customers. That is how it can grow. There is a much larger customer base to draw from. I have bought 3 Mac computers in the last 3 months. They are the first Mac computers I've ever bought. One cannot compare Mac sales growing to iPad sales slowing down. it's like comparing apples to horseshoe nails.
