Racists and anti-semitics just stormed the US Capitol, so clearly it's something America needs.
Those darn anti-semantics! :)p)

No, it's not something that America needs. Racists also burned down buildings and killed a lot more ppl this summer - but those racists had a different set of political stripes.

America - and by that I mean the education system, the media and the tech industry needs to stop pushing intellectually cancerous identity politics based on pseudo-statistics and find a way to push America forward for all Americans. Thanks to globalism the toxic ID politics is spreading to other countries in Europe.

FWIW I think Trump is an inept, corrupt egomanic and I will gladly see time go. I just wish that there was a better replacement than the incoming set of faces.

BTW here is an analysis by The World Socialist Web site who are surely no Trump fans https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2020/11/06/pers-n06.html

The figures among Latino voters are similar to those for African-Americans and Asian-Americans. Among LGBT voters, Trump tripled his total vote and doubled his share of the overall LGBT vote. In 2016, Trump won roughly 950,000 votes from LGBT people—14 percent of the total, to the Democrats’ 77 percent. In 2020, Trump won about 3 million votes, or 28 percent of the total, to the Democrats’ 61 percent. [..]

The undermining of the racialist narrative infuriates those who make it their professional responsibility to promote racial divisions, claiming that the United States is based on “white supremacy” and that Trump is the natural representative of white men. Maintaining the racialist narrative is critical to the social interests of privileged layers of the upper-middle class that use it to advance their own interests.

Oh well, China and Russia win, and Tim Apple is laughing all the way to the bank.

I’m not against these efforts by any means but isn’t supporting what are essentially black only schools and facilities the opposite of equality? Sometimes it feels like we are going backwards.
Yes, yes it is the opposite of equality. We must be unequal in order to make a time machine that rights the wrongs since exactly 1492 - but don't read further than that, citizen!

Even presupposing good intentions on the part of the actors, this seems like a bad way to do it - but ok, there is little hope to fight the lunacy in the media.

Yes because white males are definitely a discriminated minority 😂🤣😂

I have never understood why men (and especially white men) want to be oppressed so bad.
Say hello to reality: article here. I know it might contradict some people's worldview, but you don't have to be minority to be discriminated.

Wow, if people could just see people as people things would be so much better.

I also thought that middle-aged people and parents were of a different kind until i became a parent and now closing in on early middle age.

Now I’m starting to think people change relatively little as they age.

I'll believe Apple actually cares about this stuff when they stop lobbying against a bill to hold US companies accountable for using forced labor (AKA slavery). Talk about two-faced.

They aren't engaging the this initiative because they are moral or because they think it's right, they are doing it because they think it will help their bottom line.

Companies should not be looking at race and sex. Period. Doesn’t matter if you are white or not. You shouldn’t be denied a job because of your skin or sex/gender.

Tim Cook proved exactly how racist he really is by announcing this.
Everyone should have an equal access to assistance. It should be handed out based on how needy you are, not on what race you are.

Also Apple's war on hate speech is an outright lie. It's a war against conservative speech. Apple is ignoring all left wing hate speech.

Sure, seems the story is a lot of spin with many details missing, such as what was Apples' real response to the allegations. And did the supplier say they remediated the problem, etc? But sure we can throw out news stories left, right and center. If one wants to make a point, there is some source on the internet to prove it.

Let's see, one request was due to an app being used to plan and incite violence, the other request was due to an app being used to plan and incite violence or at least feed into it. Who has the really bad look again?

Different strokes for different folks...what you deem tacky, is not my perception of the PR. YMMV.
Dude what are you talking about. Apple removing Parlor and the Hong Kong app arent remotely the same thing unless you believe that Apple removed Parlor just to appease the incoming Government. Apple should have left the HK app alone as there was no evidence that it was used for any violence but the dictatorship did not want the app because the people could track the police and protest without being arrested. How you are comparing the two makes no sense. Apple was bowing to China in the case of the HK app. In the case of Parler they were banning an app that was threatening democracy.

You actually believe that championing freedom of speech for all (ie the 1st amendment) is threatening democracy?
That's all Parler ever did.

Freedom of speech means all speech is allowed, even speech you dislike. Sure hold it to account, but never silence it from any platform or censor it in any way. Do you even know what it's like to truly have your freedom of speech removed? I don't but I know people who have. They lived during WW2 and the Cold War. Having to second think everything you say because someone might snitch on you which will get you shot dead. That's a horrible way to live.

It's not that bad yet, but conservatives to have to second think anything they say online, because if anyone snitches on them, the are banned from every major social media platform. It's no way to live and it's total discrimination.

I really hope ebough people in the USA wake up and fight for their right to freedom of speech before it's taken away.

[edit] facebook and twitter have hate speech on it unmoderated and Apple & co have not removed twitter and facebook from iOS. Just proves how this is not about threatening democracy. It's about hatred of conservative speech.

If we continue to go down this path of cancel culture, censoring opinions in social media, shutting down social media sites, having network news/cable news/newsfeeds in lockstep with one political ideology, persecuting those with alternative opinions to those in power we will quickly become the newest Venezuela. Once one of the most prosperous nations, now has rampant poverty/hunger/disease and a failed education system--all the while still having natural resources that once made the country rich.

I never had a desire to visit Venezuela since it went south, never had a desire to live there either. Looks like we won't have a choice.

A few Orwell quotes to ponder:

"Everyone believes in the atrocities of the enemy and disbelieves in those of his own side without ever bothered to examine the evidence."

"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear."

"The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."

"Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past."

“Weak or strong, clever or simple, we are all brothers.”

I think quite of few in political office need to take the last one to heart. I find it unsettling that some want to make a list of Trump voters and send them to re-education camp. I thought our votes were private. I wonder what Gitmo is like? Didn't want to visit Cuba either.

I thought our votes were private.
This, this remains essential. Any attempts to make public to anyone the voting history of the individual citizenry will end with a frighteningly near certain catastrophe resulting in the destruction of democracy and the rule of a one-party state. In time...

Yet there are still pushes made to do this. Excellent quotes provided here.

That's some spin on this. I think Apple is treading carefully while trying to do the right thing. I don't think it's particularly Apple, but with the climate the way it is, big tech could be in for some regulation. In any case Apple has to follow (and it's not particularly Apple because most of the world has it's manufacturing in China) the laws of the land, even if you don't like those laws.

Maybe it’s the wrong way to solve a problem.

I totally understand that and that isn't my point. My point was that I can see how people could get tired of Apple's preaching all the time. They kind of pick and choose what they support and don't support depending on what the situation is based on who they are selling to.

Calling it preaching is of course already condemning it per se because it doesn’t suit someone personally.

There is no religion involved here, and any company picks their values and initiatives as they see fit.

I chose the word preaching because to me that's how it comes off sometimes. Preaching doesn't have to have anything to do with religion but can have to do with giving moral advice in a way that can seem pompous IF you don't think that they particularly act this way in all instances and just those that suit a narrative.

oh well... i guess somebody's gotta do it. "Advice" is one thing. Actually taking it, is another.

Since Apple has done all these encouragement/leading the pack to combat various issues. race, or whatever the discussion is on, those inside making the statements always reckon they do a good thing..

That the wrong way to think. Loo at it from how much you reckon it will chance first... There is still a point doing it, even if it doesn't change as much as you'd like, but don't go waving your arms around thinking it WILL change. 100%

Apple's usng this ony because they are proud of themseles with renewable energy.. So they think, lets move on. Baring in mind they will only be able to ado all this for the U.S. no where else. And if that's enough to make Apple happy, then ok.

I’m sure I can find many articles to contradict this.
Fact is, white males are still the de facto standard as they are the majority. The difference is now people are starting to realize we don’t need to always default to the “white is right” mentality anymore. Hence why white men and white people in general feel threaten.

People seem to forget that freedom of speech doesn’t mean you have the right to say anything you want and not receive consequences. You can say and do as you so wish as long as it isn’t slander or libelous but you have to be able to deal with the consequences of said speech.

I was on parler. Mainly to troll republicans because they are a ridiculous bunch.

it was harmless from the cult followers telling trump to pardon himself and his family (remember when republicans criticized Clinton for doing that to his brother) to seeing literal hate speech against blacks, gays, trans, Harris being a woman, etc. I even saw several posts discussing violence and wanting to continue so.

If parler shoild
Be allowed to exist because of free speech, Apple, Google, Amazon, etc should have the right not to host them.

nobody is censoring parler. 4chan has existed how many years?

they simply want nothing to do with them and sadly, people like yourself are the problem. You want to use the constitution to your advantage but when BLM or as you all put it “antifa” put it, exercises theirs it’s a problem.

the election wasn’t stolen or rigged or had any interference from Russia in 2016 because Trump won? But in 2020, it’s rigged because he didn’t.

it’s okay to literally storm a private building with the intention of causing harm to officials and even kidnap them because your guy lost. But protesting peacefully and marching in the streets for police brutality was wrong?

blue lives matter when obviously guilty cops get held accountable. Except for when you decide to riot at the capitol and actually kill a cop.

liberals are snowflakes. Except the last 2 months, conservatives whined because they lost.

republicans and anyone who supports Trump and is against his ban and parler removal. Do me a favor.

be racist. Be xenophobic. Be homophobic. Transphobic. Elitist. Misogynistic. Relgious zealots. Uneducated about the very law you try to use to defend your actions.

but be consistent. That’s why the GOP is pretty much over and it’s time for a rebirth. Because you literally became the same thing you complained about the last four years except you made it up as no democrat has acted like this and certainly no democrat did what they did at the capitol for Hilary because Hilary never incited a riot.

Y’all are jokes. End of.
